While many sequels and spin-offs came and went, 1999’s The Mummy will always remain the O.G. with others failing to compete with it. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were absolutely incredible in their roles and their chemistry was off the charts. The film went on to do quite well at the box office and even though it received mixed reviews from critics, everyone will agree that The Mummy is a cult classic now.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are back on the big screen together, as 1999’s The Mummy comes back to UK cinemas.
Given what a seismic year for cinema 1999 turned out to be – indeed, books have been written about it – it’s perhaps unsurprising that we’re getting a growing number of 25th anniversary celebrations.
Next up? That’d be The Mummy, the 1999 take on the Universal classic monster, that starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. It’s the best Indiana Jones film since Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade too, and while Stephen Sommer’s movie was followed by a couple of sequels, none came close to the fun of the 1999 film.
We now learn that the movie will be back in UK cinemas this coming July – on 5th July, as it happens – and it looks like it’s getting a relatively wide re-release too. Oftentimes, such re-releases are restricted to big cities,...

Michael Head stars in this less than convincing story of a London crime lord and his associates
There was a period in the Cool Britannia days when you couldn’t throw a brick at a cinema in the UK without hitting a British gangster movie with a castful full of dodgy geezers blagging their way around an underground scene full of drugs and farfetched capers. Some were ludicrously entertaining creations of actual working-class talent, such as Nick Love’s The Business, others transcended genre pigeonholing to work their way into various top critics’ lists (such as Jonathan Glazer’s Sexy Beast), and still others were Guy Ritchie movies. There were hundreds of less high-profile efforts too, destined for VHS or DVD, but each having somehow found funding.
These days the British gangster flick is no longer flavour of the week, or month, and there’s something appealingly bullish about attempts to make these films now.

Love is in the air in This Time Next Year, which is heading onto digital platforms this June. More on the film below.
It’s been a pretty good few months for fans of rom-coms. We’re still pretty amazed at just how well Anyone But You has done and we’re still now over Rye Lane’s emotional punch.
Now, Signature Entertainment has acquired the UK and Irish rights to Nick Moore’s rom-com This Time Next Year, as reported by Deadline. The film is written by Sophie Cousens, based on her own book and the film stars Sophie Cookson and Lucien Laviscount as the leads. John Hannah, Golda Rosheuvel, Monica Dolan, Mandip Gill and Anita Dobson also star.
Here’s the This Time Next Year trailer:
The film revolves around Minnie (Cookson) and Quinn (Laviscount), who discover they were born on the same day in the same hospital.

Universal Pictures’ The Mummy franchise was a fan favorite when it starred Brendan Fraser as the leading man Rick O’Connell. The first two films in the trilogy were directed by Stephen Sommers, also starred Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, and were box office successes. However, the reboot starring Tom Cruise was a gigantic failure critically and commercially.
While Cruise’s film ended what Universal planned as a series of monster films with a shared universe, a recent fan-made trailer seemed to have followed it up with a new cast. The new trailer is titled The Mummy: Resurrection and sees Keanu Reeves take over the franchise to battle a new evil spirit buried in an Egyptian tomb.

Terry McDonough has a new crime thriller, Damaged, out now in theaters, on-demand, and digital platforms. We have an exclusive clip to share with you this morning. McDonough's movie has a star lineup of actors led by Smauel L. Jackson and Vincenet Cassel. They are joined by Kate Dickie, Gianni Capaldi and John Hannah. How do you catch a brilliant monster? When a sadistic murderer surfaces in Scotland, terrified local authorities call on a Chicago police detective who investigated a killing spree with the same horrific pattern five years earlier. Samuel L. Jackson and Vincent Cassel star in this shocking thriller about two detectives with tortured pasts trying to stop a merciless serial killer before he claims his...

Just once, it would be refreshing to see a serial killer movie in which the detectives investigating a series of horrific murders were actually normal, well-adjusted individuals. The kind of cops who leave their work at the office, go home to their families, and drink only the occasional beer or glass of wine at dinner. The ones, in other words, who don’t live up to the title of the new thriller featuring a top-billed Samuel L. Jackson but in which the real leading player is Gianni Capaldi, who also co-scripted.
That’s definitely not the case with Damaged, a routine cop movie mainly distinguished by its extensive Scottish locations. Jackson plays Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective still haunted by a bunch of killings years earlier in which one of the victims was his own girlfriend. When a similar series of murders — in which the victims’ bodies are dismembered and...

Plot: Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer whose crimes match an unsolved case that he looked into 5 years previous in Chicago.
Review: Ever since David Fincher’s Se7en, I’ve been a fan of the simple premise of a detective hunting down a serial killer. This game of cat and mouse allows for just the right amount of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. I’d argue the big reveal at the end is nearly as synonymous with crime thrillers as cops and criminals. If there’s one thing a good mystery needs, it’s something unexpected. And Damaged certainly has that.
The story follows Detective Lawson (Samuel L. Jackson) as he travels to Scotland to help with a case. Someone is recreating the murders that Lawson investigated back in Chicago five years prior,...

After spending years in development hell, during which time it passed through the hands of popular genre filmmakers like George A. Romero, Mick Garris, Clive Barker, and Joe Dante, a reboot of the 1932 Universal Monsters classic The Mummy made its way out into the world in 1999 with Deep Rising writer/director Stephen Sommers at the helm. Made on a budget of $80 million, the new take on The Mummy was a box office success, earning over $416 million worldwide. Mixing horror, adventure, and comedy, it was a film that could be enjoyed by adults while also serving as gateway horror for a new generation of genre fans. Many see The Mummy (1999) as a beloved classic these days – so it makes sense that Universal has decided to give the film a theatrical re-release for its 25th anniversary. So this is Silence of the Lambs again? The cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Laura Haddock, John Hannah, Katie Dickie, and Brian McCardie. This doesn't look as bad as it could,...

Ian Rankin’s iconic detective Rebus is heading back to the small screen. Here’s what we know about the new series…

For three series, Ken Stott stepped into the role of the detective. His portrayal was extremely popular, and he became inextricably linked with the role, so much so it has taken well over a decade for...

If there's one thing I've learned from watching countless horror movies and episodes of "Scooby-Doo," it's that you don't mess with mummies. It's a superstition that's held so strong over the years that even when visiting museums, I tend to respectfully steer clear of the ancient Egypt exhibits. Myths about the latent powers of mummified royals have been around for ages, and many of them have been unfortunately influenced by stereotype-heavy depictions of Egypt and surrounding African and Middle Eastern cultures. Regardless of how much the world now knows about ancient Egyptian burial rituals, when most American moviegoers picture a mummy in their mind's eye these days, they're as likely to think about a Universal Pictures movie monster as they are the real thing.
The first movie in "The Mummy" franchise was released in 1932, with classic monster actor Boris Karloff playing the former high priest Imhotep, now reduced to bandaged,...

Starz has greenlighted the new 10-episode drama series Spartacus: House of Ashur with the return of Steven S. DeKnight to the franchise serving as showrunner and executive producer.
Nick Tarabay will reunite with DeKnight to reprise the role of the titular Ashur, the baddy from the mothership series you can’t help but cheer for while equally despising him.
Starz describes the series as “a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience” that builds on the original series, Spartacus. It will ask, “What if Ashur hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance? And what if he had been gifted the gladiator school once owned by Batiatus [John Hannah] in return for aiding the Romans in killing Spartacus and ending the slave rebellion?”
