Rocky creator Sylvester Stallone has penned a memoir called Steps, and it’ll be with us next year. More here:
According to Deadline, Sylvester Stallone has just made a seven figure deal for the rights to Steps, a memoir that is described as “deeply personal” with a narrative shaped by teachable stories from Stallone’s life and career similar to the hybrid memoir/self-help scope of Matthew McConaughey’s 2020 bestseller Greenlights. The book’s title alludes to the iconic running scene outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art from Rocky.
Stallone has been especially introspective lately, with fly on the wall documentary The Family Stallone being a big hit for Paramount+, the streaming service which also hosts crime thriller Tulsa King, in which Stallone plays protagonist Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi. Thom Zimmey directed the 2023 documentary Sly, which is available to watch on on Netflix.

If you go back and watch the original Rocky trailer from 1976, the narrator (some of whom would give poetic-like voice-overs in older trailers) would say, “His name is Sylvester Stallone. But you will always know him as Rocky.” There couldn’t have been a more prophetic statement as although Stallone would go on to have an iconic career with many classics as many characters, he is forever referred to as Rocky. While the recent Netflix documentary Sly gave audiences an insight into the career and personal recollections of Sylvester Stallone, the action legend will be releasing his memoir, which is due for publication in 2025.
Deadline has revealed that the memoir, The Steps, was the subject of a heated auction and the bidding war crowned William Morrow – a Harper Collin imprint — as the winner. Sources say that while it wasn’t revealed what the final price came down to, negotiations concluded around a seven-figure sum.

Exclusive: After what was described to us as a “heated” auction, William Morrow has nabbed the rights to The Steps, a new memoir penned by veteran actor and three-time Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone.
William Morrow – a HarperCollins imprint – will publish the memoir in the U.S. next year. The book was sold by UTA to Mauro DePreta at William Morrow. All parties declined to discuss financial terms, but sources told us negotiations concluded around a seven-figure sum.
The Steps was one of the hottest titles at this year’s buzzy, Hollywood-powered London Book Fair. Nonfiction heads from all of the publishing industry’s biggest houses chased the project based on the strength of a passage from a sample proposal written by Stallone. We understand that Stallone took less money to team up with DePreta and William Morrow because of their enthusiasm for the project.

The 1984 summer movie season kicked off in May and early June with a flurry of blockbusters. "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" opened to a gargantuan $25 million over Memorial Day weekend, and, unconcerned about getting chopped up in the mega-sequel's wake, Paramount scored a $17 million debut the following weekend with "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock." If you're thinking the studios might sit out a weekend while these films dominate the box office, Columbia and Warner Bros opted to throw a couple of haymakers over the June 8 three-day with, respectively, "Ghostbusters" and "Gremlins."
And then, on the fourth weekend of the summer movie season, Hollywood at last took a breather. With kids fresh out of school, the studios sat back and watched the aforementioned titles continue to flourish, while other pricey gambles (e.g. "Streets of Fire" and "Once Upon a Time in America") flopped.

While a movie has a fixed director, producer, scriptwriter, and crew, there have been times when an actor or actress stepped up for the sake of their character or the movie as a whole. While Sylvester Stallone fought to keep the famous Rambo monologue in the script, the likes of Tom Cruise are often meddling with the film to make it better.

After a couple of box office duds, including "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot," which was the subject of one of the greatest troll moves in Hollywood history, Sylvester Stallone was in need of a hit. He got one with 1993's "Cliffhanger," Renny Harlin's pulse-pounding action flick that many have referred to as "'Die Hard' on a mountain" (and a film that was only made because of the success of "Die Hard"). The movie marked Stallone's return to the type of muscular, high-octane action for which he was primarily known, and the despite the film's somewhat formulaic structure, "Cliffhanger" turned out to be a super effective thriller, a cable TV staple (shout-out to all of those countless lazy TNT and TBS Sunday afternoon viewings), one of Sylvester Stallone's best movies, and a strong case could be made that it's one of the best action films of the '90s.

David Bowie is a familiar name in the music and cinematic world, whose music led him to become among the greatest artists in history. Apart from music, his acting talent was second to none, working on both the small and big screen. However, many would be surprised to know that the actor was quite close to playing a James Bond villain.

People often say whatever happens is always for the best, but every once in a while, an event triggers a butterfly effect of such epic proportions that it almost makes us believe in fate. Isabel May’s casting in the Yellowstone prequel spin-off, 1883, was one such result of the butterfly effect triggered by Taylor Sheridan and Paramount’s deal. And despite the integral role she plays in it, May’s actual contribution to Paramount goes way beyond her arc as Elsa Dutton.

Revolving around the storyline of a small-time boxer from Philadelphia, the Rocky franchise breasted a new set of fire into Sylvester Stallone and his repute in Hollywood. The ‘70s saw a meteoric rise in action content and the rise of legendary heroes of the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sean Connery, and Clint Eastwood. Differentiating himself from the rest, the Rocky Balboa star set on quite a different path for his career, one that would have the studio question their faith in him before betting big.

Jeremy Renner is an actor who came into limelight after a lot of struggle. Working as an extra, side characters, or being in music videos, it took some time before Renner became the household name he is today. Can the Rocky franchise ever be complete without ‘Mickey Loves You’? Well, actor Sylvester Stallone reportedly planned on wrapping up the sports drama franchise with Rocky III, wanting to finish up the character’s arc in a trilogy. After the worldwide success of the first film, Stallone hopped on the director’s chair for the sequels and planned a great ending.
Stallone was on the brink of giving up on his dreams when he wrote the screenplay for Rocky and sold it for a chance at starring in the sports drama. What was then a small-budget film became a worldwide phenomenon and the highest-grossing film of 1976. It spawned multiple sequels and a spinoff film centered on Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed’s son.

Yellowstone, effortlessly, is one of the best projects credited to Taylor Sheridan’s name to date, ranking among the likes of Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and this very series’ multiple prequels including 1923 and 1883.
But while the mastermind developed this storyline himself, not many fans know what actually induced him to spend so many big bucks on the horses for this saga.

Moreover, this dark tale not only influenced his decision to buy so many horses for his saga but can also be felt in the characters’ behaviors throughout the masterpiece series.

Guardians of the Galaxy was loaded with Easter eggs and cameos that spanned decades of Marvel Comics lore. However, some characters got lost in the mix when their roles were much more significant.
One such case is that of Michael Rosenbaum, who played Martinex, one of the earliest Guardians members in the comics. But why was his spot in the trilogy cut back?
Rosenbaum, best known for his role as a young Lex Luthor in Smallville, says that the editors cut out his larger role in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. This isn’t uncommon, however.
The editing teams sometimes need to remove entire characters, reducing them to background decor rather than active members of the plot to tighten up a movie or improve the flow of scenes.
Thanks to Comicbook.com and The Hollywood Reporter, we have Rosenbaum’s first-hand account of what could have been in the previous two Guardians films.

Hollywood, for the past seven years since 2018, has been seduced by Taylor Sheridan’s unbridled and unyielding talent for crafting worlds of greed, power, the Wild West, and neo-noir crime capers. Among the numerous players also lies Jeremy Renner, the Marvel superhero who recently proved his lack of powers on-screen is a poor testament to his real-life powers in the wake of his accident.

As reports of net worth and salary statements become public, the media and the audience are quick to uncover the details of the aforementioned exclusive club shared by the Mayor and a few other acting legends inhabiting the same world as he.

These days Netflix’s global top is blown by a new sci-fi that turned out to be a failure. Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas, following an analyst on her space mission together with the onboard AI, received a shameful 19% of critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily, it has rekindled people’s interest in robot movies, as one of them is now recalled by Netflix audience. It has recently gained such a strong viewership that it is now holding the forth place in the platform’s chart, even though it was released 13 years ago.
The film’s plot revolves around Charlie, a boxer who was forced to retire from sports ‘cause the boxing ring was taken over by heavier and more powerful robots. That is why he starts living a routine of collecting scrap metal and making low-end fighters of it.
Charlie’s life is about to change when he learns about the death of his ex-girlfriend,...

In some cases, when actors deliver an iconic performance in a certain role, it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the part. James Gandolfini’s performance as Tony Soprano is no different. Often considered one of the best TV shows of all time, The Sopranos still remains the best gangster drama to be put on the small screen, and a major reason behind it was the late actor’s performance.
Sylvester Stallone shared a similar viewpoint when reflecting on the show and had no hesitation taking shots at Gandolfini’s son, who played a young Tony Soprano in the 2021 prequel.

Michael Rosenbaum Reveals Martinex Originally Had a Bigger Role in the Guardians of the Galaxy Movies - Main Image
Michael Rosenbaum recently revealed that his character Martinex originally had a bigger role in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
The Smallville actor made his MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where he played Martinex, the first officer of the Stakar Ravager Clan that has a body composed of silicon-isotope crystals.
While the character had a fun presence in the two films he appeared in, Martinex ultimately didn't have a large storyline as he mostly appeared as the right-hand man of Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord.

Among DC fans, Michael Rosenbaum is notable for his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Smallville, which James Gunn previously deemed his favorite iteration of the character onscreen. Apart from Luthor, Rosenbaum has also voiced several other DC characters, including Deadman, Kid Flash, and Barry Allen, across shows like Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Teen Titans, etc.
However, his stint in the realm of superheroes isn’t just limited to DC, as thanks to his good pal Gunn, the actor landed the role of Martinex in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. But per the actor, his role in the films was initially supposed to be a lot bigger than it ended up being.

While his work on his reboot version of DC’s cinematic universe as its co-ceo is yet to be seen, James Gunn has displayed his charming directing flair in quite a few other projects that were nothing short of lovable.
Besides the fan-favorite The Suicide Squad from the DC Universe being one of them, he is also credited with helming the MCU masterpiece, Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

That being said, while the trilogy was pretty much perfect, some fans might still hold a grudge against Gunn for a decision he took for Michael Rosenbaum, i.e. the actor who played Lex Luthor in the television series.
This was because the filmmaker decided to sideline Rosenbaum’s character in the trilogy for the MCU, i.e., Martinex, in a rather humiliating way.

Sylvester Stallone is a brilliant actor, screenwriter, and director. Since the start of his career, the actor has consistently proven himself as a formidable one-man army and has made some of the best movies of all time. Yet, his career has not been without several commercial and critical failures.
Sylvester Stallone ([PC: Tulsa King | Amazon Prime]Also, having made some of the worst movies of all time, the actor once believed he never had made a movie that could lose money. While that is far from the truth today, Stallone once stated that if his career was on the line so badly, he could have made his Rocky Balboa an astronaut.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced the "original" Guardians, with a team comprised of Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord, Ving Rhames as Charlie-27, Michelle Yeoh as Aleta Ogord, Miley Cyrus as Mainfraime, and Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex.
When the sequel was released in 2017, the expectation was that filmmaker James Gunn would oversee a slate of cosmic projects for Marvel Studios, creating a Marvel Cosmic Universe.
While it's never been clear how far along those plans got, they were halted when Disney parted ways with Gunn after past comments on social media caught up with him. He eventually returned to helm Vol. 3, but quickly parted ways with the franchise to take charge of DC Studios and the Dcu.
Rosenbaum is good friends with Gunn and fans hoped Martinex might take on a bigger role in the threequel or even a Ravagers-led potential spin-off. Unfortunately, the Smallville alum's role...

If you were trying to concoct the archetypal Hollywood star in a lab, it wouldn’t be Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yet for more than 20 years they dominated the box office, their wattage rivaled only by the klieg lights of a movie premiere.
The improbable origins and unlikely rise of these two action icons are told in a couple of documentaries in Emmy contention: the feature Sly, directed by Thom Zimny, and the docuseries Arnold, directed by Lesley Chilcott.
“[EP] Allen Hughes brought the Arnold project to me,” Chilcott explains. “At first I said, ‘What don’t we already know?’ And he said, ‘I said the same thing myself.’ But then I started thinking about how weird and unusual it is that Arnold’s been successful in so many completely different areas.

Kouta Hirano’s Hellsing has done wonders for the dark fantasy vampire genre, and most of its credit goes to its main character, Alucard. Put on any action movie made between 1903’s The Great Train Robbery and 2017’s John Wick, pay attention to the risks playing out before you, and you’ll never stop asking why the hell aren’t stunt performers lauded for their efforts by the Academy Awards. In the 1970s, one of the greatest and most underrated decades for action movies, you could still see every danger to life and limb on screen. CGI wasn’t around yet, and the law was barely paying attention.
The result is an era where bloody martial arts imports and Blaxploitation commentary blended with tight-wire action and terrifyingly real stunts. The very best remain iconic, from the Dirty Harrys to 1979’s global phenomenon, Mad Max. But with the passage of time comes forgetting, and the ‘70s hide some of the best, wildest, and sometimes even edgiest movies waiting for fans to rediscover.

What are the movies that allow you to have a good rest watching them without thinking too much about their hidden meanings? When Reddit discussed it, the verdict was that the most fruitful decade for such flicks was the 1980s, when lots of classic action films were released.
Here are 7 actions of the 80s to relax while watching them.
Die Hard (1988)
Bruce Willis’ cultish flick is one of the greatest action movies of all time. Following a police detective who starts a one-man war against a gang of ruthless thieves, it gave the world one of the brightest action heroes in movie history, John McClane.
First Blood (1982)
Another action star of the 80s is Sylvester Stallone, the lead of the action-packed Rambo franchise. Its first installment centered on John Rambo, a war veteran, who is forced to rely on his combat skills while he is surviving a massive manhunt held by police.

A story that started with the protagonist wanting to become the best in his field, surpassing his own father.

That is not an uncommon trope. Food Wars and Fairy Tail both have similar motivations. In fact, most anime like One Piece, Haikyuu!! and My Hero Academia is driven by the thought of becoming the strongest in their traits. In many ways, all of them stand individually despite their similarities. One plot hole that stands in Baki Hanma, although minor, has a lot to do with Yyujiro Hanma, the protagonist’s father.

For many years, Dolly Parton spent a good deal of her time on tour. She traveled with many musicians, but there were a few she did not want to join her on the road. According to a talent agent, there were a few major male stars who Parton did not want to be around. Here’s why.
Dolly Parton didn’t want to tour with certain people
For much of Parton’s career, she has dealt with rumors about affairs between herself and various other celebrities. People paired her with Porter Wagoner, Burt Reynolds, Sylvester Stallone, and others. Her former boyfriend, Bobby Denton, said there was little truth to these rumors.
“Oh, I don’t think anybody ever really believed that gossip,” Denton said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “You know people start wild, vicious rumors, and the people who knew Dolly didn’t believe it. Any time...

Chinese director Guan Hu’s visually stunning new feature, Black Dog, starts off with a familiar premise: After spending a decade behind bars, an ex-con named Lang (Eddie Peng) returns to his tiny native city in Northwest China on the outskirts of the Gobi Desert. He tries to integrate into regular life, but certain demons from his past come back to haunt him.
If this sounds like any number of throwaway B-movies, or like the plot of the recent Sylvester Stallone series Tulsa King, be advised that Black Dog is not that kind of thing at all. First off, it’s unclear who, exactly, the title is referring to. Is it the film’s total outcast of a protagonist, who barely utters a full sentence to anyone — including his own father — as he attempts to settle into a place that doesn’t want him? Or is it the stray black greyhound he meets in town,...

Hollywood has no shortage of action movies and has cooked up some of the best action films of all time over the years. Bruce Willis’ Die Hard surely occupies a high place in Hollywood’s Hall of Fame for the genre. Not only did it branch out an incredible franchise, but the movie also inspired a bunch of other iconic movies like Under Siege, Speed, The Rock, and many more.
Die Hard (1988) | 20th Century Studios
Among these movies is Sylvester Stallone’s 90’s classic, Cliffhanger. Based on Willis’ top-of-class action film, Stallone’s flick would have never happened had the action thriller not been released.

Long before Sylvester Stallone found himself on the receiving end of a severe beatdown from Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV, the action star let his body be tortured by another star in Rocky II. But it did not stop him from making the fights authentic in the huge sports drama franchise created by Stallone himself.

Stallone’s co-star, Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the franchise, one of the strongest opponents his character had faced, unleashed a hellish pounding on Stallone. However, it was all because of the request from the Rocky II lead and director, Stallone. Putting his body on the line somewhat paid off as the franchise went on to be a huge hit, which propelled his career upward in Hollywood.
