Ozark (2017)
Season 1 is great, Season 2 and 3 are good
Season 1 sets solid, consistent and believable grounds for things to develop. Introduces some great and charismatic characters. Only downside is the blue tint, not sure why they went with that kind of photography.
Season 2 starts to drag for the first half, 2 half better but slowly becomes less believable. Inconsistent writing. Inconsistent personalities.
Season 3 introduces some fun characters and twists, it is fun to watch but decisions characters make are just poor and stupid, the way they act and react doesn't match their established personalities and IQ. Suddenly the whole thing looks like a joke. Cartel starts to look like a bunch of guys with no brain and the big boss becomes just some dude you can call and chat with. By the end you hope they all just die. It is still fun to watch but the drama is gone, consistency is gone. Writers are definitely the ones who screwed up this one.
I give it 8 because it is still entertaining even when it gets stupid, unlike 80% of shows.
Loving Vincent (2017)
Impressive life and death of Vincent Van Gogh
Sad and inspiring story of Van Goghs life and work, told in his own style of painted animation. I gave it an 8 because on occasions the animation feels (reveals) like it is just a filter put over filmed footage. I also think that Van Gogh actor doesn't look like Van Gogh, no pain in his expression. Still the film is beautiful, sad and inspiring. For art lovers, most definitely. Despite of the flaws it still delivers the message so for me it is an 8*
Limbo (2020)
A lump in the throat movie with charm and laughs
Although this movie is about the refugees finding their place in a new environment it can also serve as a metaphore for loneliness and existential crisis people go through life while searching for their place in the world. Photography and acting is full of soul and music is fantastic. This is a movie about life and human condition. If you have a capacity to feel and empathy to give, you will enjoy this movie. If you don't then you might find those 1/10 reviews helpful. I mean seriously...
Mandy (2018)
WOW, mindblowing experience, who are those 1/10 people?
One of the rare movies that I enjoyed so deeply on so many levels that by the end I was completely blown away. It gets you hypnotized with the opening scene and the opening number by King Crimson and from there the experience gets completely insane. It reminded me of my other Grindhouse favorite Hobo With A Shotgun.
This movie is definitely made for a specific audience, it is not for a conservative viewer with conservative expectations of the conservative film making. Don't watch it if you can't think abstractly, it is not made for you!!! Movie gets seriously weird at some point so be ready, like 'Alejandro Jodorowsky weird' with all the imagery and mind blowing soundtrack.
If you enjoy Frank Frazetta arts, David Lynch, Alejandro Jodorowsky, heavy metal (in a visual way), 80-s horror, comic book visuals, Nicholas Cage (who I respect so much after this) - you will enjoy this movie like no other.
I advise you to watch it alone, with a good sound, dark room and a nice TV, it is a rare experience and deserves your maximum attention.
Talking about Frank Frazetta, I think Panos Cosmatos would make a great Conan movie. I definitely want to see everything he makes.
