Svart krabba (2022)
Good movie.
Bit low rating for this pretty good movie, but you either love it or hate or something in between. I'm somewhere in between. If you like Apocalyptic movies this one is recomended in my opinion. On contrary to others I like it that not much is explained, leaves something vor the imagination. Like we dont know who the enemy is. The director knows to catch that all is lost atmosphere, as Steven Spielberg did in War of the Worlds, like when they have to flee from the bombardment of the base. That looks very threatening, though later in the movie the enemy is quite easily defeated. And a helicopter doesn't hit someone on the open frozen water and goes
away when they hide under a landing place? Hmm. And then they make too much campfires in an environment where they are searched by an enemy. Still the battlescenes look good. Just as the scenery is great. Like the wrecked ship and the cities. I think I would like to give it a 7, but to get the rating a bit up I gave it a 10.
Shadowplay (2020)
defeated/shadowplay
Very well made series with good acting. The set is fantastic. And its always a pleasure to see the acting of Sebastian Koch. One of the reasons I started watching it is because a while ago I saw an episode of a series called Shadowplay and this looked kind of the same. But it is the same under a different name. So that was a nice surprise cause I wanted to see the whole of it. Pity they didn't have the same begintune as in Shadowplay. Which is a version of the song Shadowplay by Joy Division. It also has a bit the atmosphere of the books by Heinrich Böll.
The only thing is, in the 80s and 90s when I was quite often in Germany not one German spoke English. Let alone in the 40s. And Russians and Germans talking English to each other? But its probably to reach a bigger audience, but you got to look through that. And about the Russians being portrayed as evil? The Americans saw their buddies killed by the Germans, the Russians also had their villages and families wiped out by them, so one can imagine they were not nice to the Germans.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Very dissapointing
This movie is crap. After the ridiculous first battle scene I turned it off. Instead I watched the documentary BLOODS OF NAM on youtube. Much better.
Nice filmposter though.
Sand Castle (2017)
Good film
This movie made me think of the WWII movies made in the 60s and 70s. Good acting and a good story but not always the most right or realistic military gear. Probably they didn't have a large budget or any help from the army to get the right equipment but the rest was so good it didn't bother me a lot. It depicts well fate of the Iraqi people and what they have to endure.
Fury (2014)
Silly movie
When I started the movie it looked good. Also the acting is good. It is filmed like Band of Brothers. But when I got further into the movie it got more and more unbelievable and silly especially the scene with the Tiger and the ridiculous final scene. That's absolutely extremely silly like mentioned in other reviews here. If it were like five or ten SS soldiers the tank crew might have won with extreme luck. Maybe. But so many hardenend SS soldiers with five years of fighting behind them?! It would have been a question of minutes.
Redbad (2018)
Waste of time, money, actors, effort, space, extras etcetcetc
Good hopes for this movie I had, cause another historical movie (Michiel de Ruyter) by this director was all right. This is something else. It's a mess. I couldn't believe this movie was taken serious and turned it off halfway.
I'm not bothered by a bit of artistical liberties and I know it's not a documentary, but this insults the viewers. Almost nothing is historically correct. Castles, full armour, halberds didn't exist in that time. People wouldn't accept a WWII movie with soldiers walking around with AK47s. Though the early middle ages are not as well known to people it is kind of the same. It is misinforming people. Nowadays it is easy to check what the early middle ages looked like. So could the director have done. And there are lots of historians and archaeologist who would gladly help in advising. Probably for free.
He shouldn't have called it Redbad if it was meant to be some kind of fantasy action movie. There where high expectations for this movie. I was also looking forward to it. There aren't many big movies about Dutch history. And it had a big budget for Dutch standard. Waste of money.
This director should be ashamed and go back to Hollywood to make B-movie crap again..
