Andra akten (2023)
Pleasant entertainment.
This is the improbable love story between the worn-out theater actor Harald Skog and the recently retired occupational therapist Eva Söderberg. Harald (Rolf Lassgård) refuses to give up after a severe stroke, and Eva (Lena Olin) remains undeterred despite the challenges posed by her patients. We follow Harald's journey towards an unexpected comeback.
Both Rolf Lassgård and Lena Olin infuse their roles with magnetic presence. While Rolf convincingly embodies a revered theater actor with all his gravitas, Lena seems a bit too grand for her role, making it hard to see Eva Söderberg instead of Lena Olin.
This was a moment of pleasant entertainment, but not much more. Many non-Swedish viewers might find the character dynamics and their relationships unclear. It's likely that the script better captured these Swedish social nuances, but they didn't fully translate to the screen.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Don't listen to WT viewers who thought it was a bang bang western
This is a slowly told story about two brothers, a bully and a silent one. Guess who will win?
This is not a western for wt people who have simple ideas about what entertainment is. They probably do best to stick to such things they are better at consuming. It surprises me that some are actually capable of writing a "review" here, and rating it, but must be considered to be at the limit of their ability.
The Goldfinch (2019)
Better than expected...
I read the book 5 years ago and loved it. It's a long story, with many side stories and chapters. And clearly, I never thought anyone could make it into a film.
For us who once read and liked the book, this film is essential. It's a wonderful retrospective I think. It helped me remember some of the best parts of this bestseller. Well done! 👍🏼👍🏼
The Great Hack (2019)
Turbid British story
The evidence of use of manipulation and propaganda is a fact. Still this production manage to lose everything. What a joke documentary. The Great Hack is more about the complete failure of British journalism than anything. It's a pain to watch. Don't do it.
Let Me In (2010)
Worst remake ever
Why a rewrite and a make an adaptation of the original Swedish speaking motion 'Låt den rätte komma in'? Unless you have reading problems (with Subtitles), or sort of can't watch anything outside the American box, you are entitled. For the rest of us, true horror lovers, this American version is a schoolbook example of how to destroy something truly ingenious.
So, a good advice: Watch the original Swedish version. The cultural gap between Sweden and The US is this context is minimal. This is in my opinion one of the best horror movies ever. However not the American B-version of it.
Malevolent (2018)
White trash horror
At the end of the day, nothing of this will get remembered. Nonexistent story, zero direction, lousy acting. 10 points an the vomiting scale.
