When I went to see that movie I was invited by two friends, so after 10 minutes, when I had decided to leave the theater I realized that it would be impolite and also, living in Los Angeles that finding a taxi would be a nightmare. So I stayed.... This "movie" made me so angry. I cannot believe that Brad Pitt has accepted the script. I normally assumed that he chose so far his roles. I do not understand the awards and all the medias interest for that long (very long) and boring film. It should be illegal to spend so much money for nothing.... Claude Lelouch is an expert in this kind of mixed stories within the same movie the difference is that at the end you feel like having a week sunny cruise in 2 hours. Here it is more like a hurricane. The pseudo political message contained in this movie does not help to solve anything.In the contrary. Babel Made me mad more than anything else....

I had never heard about this movie because I left Paris to live in Los Angeles in 1984. It seems that the bad prediction of Fatima in this movie seen in the cup of tea was really concerning you. You passed few months after acting in this movie in a so strange motorcycle accident. I saw this movie. This is not the best movie you could have done but somehow it is so much you. A racist defending the rights of every man and woman. A "new rich" defending all the "old poor". A pacifist defending all activists. A fat man attempting to give food to most of hungry men (Restos du Coeur). I have never been able to understand exactly who you were Coluche. One thing is sure, you died too early and every one of your warnings has been verified to be correct. The politicians from all sides in most countries are as you described them when you were alive. You were so right to make fun of all of them. As I am writing this note, TV5 International in its show "Envoye special" is reporting about Darfour and its horrors... Coluche, may be you are better off wherever you are now. Thank you anyway.
You have to be French and above 40 to appreciate this movie...

Jean Lefebvre represents the average French manual worker, and most of the movies he did was due to that look and the way he acted in real life and in his acting. He is kind, honest and full of honest principles even as a pickpocket as he is in this movie. If you like Jean Lefebvre and or Michel Constantin then you should see this movie. It would be like visiting a good friend for one hour or two. The story is cute, non pretentious and light. A good excuse to see again Paris and the South of France in the 70s. If you feel my comment is boring.... well it could also be inspired by the movie itself but again, I really enjoyed Jean Lefebvre and Michel Constantin, forget the story of the movie....

What a great story. An apparently very rich family living in a luxurious French manor, hire a tutor for their son who is a genius..... I was about to divulge too much about that movie and eventually kill the suspense for you... Incredible actors and great subject. I saw Vincent Cassel for the first time in "La Haine". I live in Los Angeles and I did not know that Vincent was the son of Jean Pierre Cassel. In "la Haine", I thought that Vincent Cassel was not a professional actor but a real gang member who had been hired to play in "la Haine" and would never be seen in another movie.(he was excellent too) When I saw L'Eleve and recognized Vincent Cassel as the main actor I could not believe he was the same actor than the one in "La Haine". What a performance. What a great actor!!! More than real as a gang member in "La Haine" and absolutely convincing as a well educated tutor in "l'eleve"
