Ally McBeal (1997)
I love Ally McBeal
I ordered all five seasons from hong kong on e-bay... it's fantastic..!! you know, people watch Jerry Springer to make sure their lives are not that screwed up... I believe people watch(ed) Ally hoping their lives could become as chaotic... We are into the 4th season.. and it seems like the show should be wrapping up at the end of this season... but they go on for one more year... contract fights with ABC? I know Robert Downy Jr. went back to rehab at the end of season 4...
But this show is about life.. all the stupid little things that most people never even notice are magnifide a thousand time... Jerry Seinfeld did the same thing... Ally McBeal was a lawyer show about nothing.. but in Ally everybody is George and Kramer and all the other characters all the time all rolled into one... David Kelly was/is a genius. to be able to write so many shows with such passion. That's another key to this show you don't see on very many.. the passion the actors deliver their parts in... They invite us into their world and we actually become part of it... The fears we see on Ally are something we all experience at some time in our lives... Wish I could find more of David Kelly's shows on DVD... can't find the Practice at all...
let's have a reunion..!!!!
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993)
Lois & Clark hearkens to a time....
...When Lois Lane had her own comic book. She had her own comic book for years. This show is tribute to those comic books. Superman is just a bit character is these stories. The third wheel on a two wheel bike. If you were to do a proper show just about Superman you would do a show really about a god then. Thats the trouble DC has had for years especially with the "Death of Superman". How do we make this god human? Smallville has made it worked because their characters all have a heart and soul about them as does Losi & Clark. I don't see why people get upset about how this show gets campy at times. Every show that stays on the air for more than one year becomes a soap opera of sorts (Including talk shows, games shows, and even the news). This show was more about Lois & Clark than it was about Superman. Hence the title - Duh! Dean Cain did a nice job as Superman; not as good as the guy who plays Big S in Smallville but it was OK. He even did a good job writing a show or two. Terri Hatcher was fine and showed that she didn't need her sex appeal to get this job. She is definitely sexier than anything she did in this series and I'm sure the producers wanted to keep her in a very tame setting. Lane Smith (Perry White) did a fantastic job bring up Elvis and Memphis; especially since he was from Memphis in real life. He died recently and he will surely be missed. I liked the first Jimmy Olson better than the second Jimmy Olson. Heck he had his own comic book for years as well. I'm sure there will be a campy soap opera type TV show involving him coming up soon. This show is a nice break from the grit of CSI:yourtown & those Suvivor shows.
