Francesca Quinn, PI (2022)
Cringeworthy
I love a good cheesy Hallmark movie but this was just horrible. The dialogue, direction, and acting are so bad I just couldn't sit through the whole movie. I stopped at about 20 minutes in. I doubt very much that any of the three improved the further in you get. Pass.
The main actress who plays Francesca is from a tv show I loved where she was a minor character and also not worth the air time. She has terrible delivery and no facial expressions. Too much Botox maybe? The former love interest was stiff and bland. Clearly hired for looks and nothing more. All of the other minor characters were unimpressive, boring, and didn't help in anyway except to make this a complete pile of poo.
Wedding Planner Mystery (2014)
Not one of Hallmark's cheesy best.
I'm a longtime Hallmark movie and store fan. I gobble up the sweet cheese of all of the movies and series but this one is just not good. I decided to do a rewatch tonight. I didn't remember anything about this movie until about 10 minutes into the movie. The acting is cute not too overdone except by the bride, Nicky, but the writing...oh goodness the writing...if you're a dialogue freak like me then this one will drive you batty.
Honest Thief (2020)
So many issues!
I love Liam Neeson but this movie was just badly written. There were so many holes and issues with the story and the direction. Also I hate when someone is stabbed or cold-cocked and just keeps getting up. Drives me crazy!
Always and Forever (2020)
Wow and not in a good way.
This movie is poorly written, directed, and acted. It's not even a bad B movie. It's just truly boring. The suspense that they tried to build in didn't translate and the momentary jump scene didn't carry through. Extremely glad I rent this and didn't buy it.
Hereditary (2018)
Modern take on long, filler silences and choppy dialogue
I am a huge fan of Toni Collette! I was excited to watch this movie and even more so when I saw Gabriel Byrne's name. The movie began well and I was drawn in from the beginning. Charlie, played by Milly Shapiro, was a fantastic character. She was quiet and creepy and had the perfect sound effect. Peter, played by Alex Wolff, was a decent minor character.
While I agree with a few reviews as a modern day horror film the setup with this movie was great but it didn't deliver on what on any of it. No a horror film doesn't need to be cheesy with the expected make-you-jump moments but you know what it should have? Dialogue not just long scenes of dead silence and awkward stares that don't evoke any reaction from the viewer. There was far too much "telling of a story" than seeing the story unfold. For that the director should be blamed. No one watching a movie wants to hear about a scene that could have created an actual sense of angst if had been shown.
I lost interest in this film around the end of the first hour. I was hopeful when an actual plot arose and details unfolded but it all crashed and burned to the ground when we made it to the end. I was angry when I saw what we waited 2 hours to see. It was darn right stupid!
It is movies like this as to why movies like the Halloween and Friday the 13th franchise have outlived all others. You don't expect great writing or developed scenes. You expect a group of people to be picked off one by one by a known but unknown villain in seen and gruesome ways...and Hollywood delivers on it! It may be cheap tricks but they found the formula and we the viewer always want more.
When Calls the Heart (2014)
One of my fave heartstring pullers!
I have been a fan of this show from the first episode. It's Hallmark! I grew up on all Hallmark movies and series. In this world of crazy these heart-filled wholesome gems just warm the soul. Of course you know there is always a little bit of cheese and corniness here and there but hey what's life without a little of that.
I have watched and loved all of the various cast members who have come and gone and miss a lot of them especially Lori Loughlin. I've been a fan of hers since her Secret Admirer days. (Great movie by the way.) Season 6 and 7 have kept my interest but I will admit to some of the romance storylines becoming quite overdone and dragging and yes even boring. Also, I question the road the current main romance is taking; it seems quite unlikely for Elizabeth Thatcher to venture down a road already travelled. I am looking forward to some turn-of-events.
Reprisal (2018)
Ugh! Just say no.
Watching this movie now and it's terrible. I love Bruce Willis but even he couldn't save the day and rescue this badly written and directed movie. The villain played by Jonathon S. is not a role he can carry. I still have 18 minutes to go and if is excruciating.
