El Rey: Vicente Fernández (2022)
An insult to El Rey.
I don't even know where to begin. Being a Hispanic from New Mexico, we grew up with the music of Vicente. With the voice of a powerful angel that could make grown men cry and women weak at the knees. To see such a life turned into a cheesy soap opera is a complete insult to Chente, his family and his fans. The mariachi music is beautiful but is soon drowned out by horrible voices and over dramatic poses. The acting was so depressing that I felt like taking a Xanax after each episode. This was not Vicente and wherever he is at, he's probably cringing. "Esto es lo que han hecho con mi legado?" Latinos are always typecast and this is why. We struggle enough to be taken seriously to begin with and we wonder why anything "Latin" gets ignored by the main stream media and the viewing public. Complete failure of a series and great disrespect to one of the greatest Mexican singers of all time.
Being the Ricardos (2021)
Horrid and cringe-worthy.
Can someone tell me why they refuse to cast Debra Messing as Lucy? Kidman looks aged, plastic, stiff and there's absolutely no "Lucy" humor there! Forced and contrived. Don't even get me started on Bardem's portrayal of the handsome and talented Desi Arnaz. He's like a caveman carving of the lovable Latin lover. Honestly? How this made it out of the cutting room floor is beyond me. I'm only finishing it because I started it but it's already been torture.
Halston (2021)
McGregor Is Magnificent as Halston
The critics have it wrong, again. What a wonderful portrayal of the legend known simply as Halston. We often forget what an impact he made in the fashion industry. He was temperamental, moody but oh so talented. Even the character of Liza Minelli was wonderfully acted by Ms. Rodriguez. I cannot get enough of this fashion icon and the people who were in his circle. Let us never forget the name of HALSTON, for it was his and his alone no matter what companies claimed it.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
John Candy & Steve Martin - Perfectly Paired
There's nothing more to say other than that John Candy left this world way too early. A comedic genius. I hope you're laughing in heaven, big guy!
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Rami Malek shines as legendary Freddie Mercury
I was in doubt when Malek was cast as THE Freddie Mercury. Surely no one on earth could pull off the flamboyrant Freddie! His stage presence alone is impossible to mimic. Malek pulled it off brilliantly. A little denture annoyance and short stature but I am impressed. The IMAX theatre rocked my socks off. I was singing every lyric and the Live Aid Concert was like you were actually there. Bravo!
