The Fall Guy (2024)
The rom/com that doesn't pull any punches
I honestly didn't even know about this movie until recently, but hubby had been talking about a comedy action movie that he's been seeing tons of ads for (The Fall Guy).
I'm so surprised that I hadn't heard of this movie! I'm wondering if the marketing was geared to a more masculine/action heavy audience. From a middle age woman perspective, it's got everything that I'd also look for in a movie. It's got a strong lead female, who isn't half naked, well written love story, that isn't cheesy like all the holiday movies.... Characters that have great chemistry on screen. And tons of fun action that isn't gory, bloody or just for using effects.
Overall, I think this movie could of done way better in theaters if they marketed it for what it is - a rom/com action mix.
If you're into that sorta thing, give this one a go.
Stath Lets Flats (2018)
Stath "tries really hard" to let Flats - lot's of fun!
Stath Lets Flats does not get enough attention! I'm hoping they do another season because it's worth a light, comical watch.
Stath is doing his best to rent out properties, but always seems to find his way into mishaps. Or at the very least, mishaps just happen to him.
The characters are loveable and are well developed. You definitely start feeling for them within the first couple episodes. If they add in another season or two (hint, hint) we could really see this group shine!
As a Canadian, there is terminology & slang that's British (obviously), but it's very easy to follow and understand, especially if you've watched & enjoyed the IT Crowd, What We Do in the Shadows, Wellington Paranormal, The Office (both versions), Ghosts (both versions)... I could keep going.
If you're into the mocumentary genre, give this one a go.
Krapopolis (2023)
Hilarious comedy ensemble!
Refreshing adult oriented cartoon with a phenomenal cast.
With so many cartoons geared to the adult-ish audience these days it's hard to find one that isn't fully repeated from previous adult cartoons.
Krapopolis actually has great writing and character building. It's take on mythology is fun and the actors who voice these characters shine through.
The team who has produced this really captured the nuances of the actors, giving them their mannerisms, making it all the more funny. It's these little details are what make this cartoon more watchable and entertaining.
Krapopolis has hit the mark on unique humour, and is refreshing to see, in a sea of adult focused cartoons.
If you normally don't watch the adult cartoon genre but like the non cartoon shows What We Do In the Shadows, The IT Crowd, The Office, Last Man Standing, you'll probably enjoy Krapopolis!
The Trades (2024)
Excellent, home grown Canadian Comedy
Decided to give this a go, with actors from many favorite Canadian shows it's definitely worth looking at.
The premise follows lead foreman on his desire to keep his company open and get the promotion he deserved. Unfortunately someone from corporate gets sent in and takes over. It's looking like they are trying shut the plant down, but the trades team works hard and hilariously to squash that plan.
Only on episode 3 and loving it so far. Seeing Trailer Park characters in a different role is great.
Having Ricky be anything other than a dirtball was startling! Lol He plays his role really well. In Trades he's a stand up leader, and wants to keep his work family together.
Comedy is toned down from Trailer Park Boys, so if that's what you're hoping for, try Eastbound & Down.
This show has excellent timing with their jokes and comebacks. The banter between everyone is hilarious.
All the actors were picked really well. And have an immediate on screen chemistry.
The shenanigans can be quite dirty, for lack of a better word. Expect some weenies and f-bombs.
And, any show that starts off with a racoon sitting in a lawn chair has to be a winner!
