Nowhere (2023)
Becomes more and more absurd as it goes on
This is filmed in such a realistic way, with the idea being that you imagine yourself in this situation and what you would do. And the intention is to make us (presumably) amazed at the survival capacity of the lead character. But as her situation becomes more and more desperate, and more goes wrong, it just descends into the ridiculous. I didn't bother to watch to the end. I stopped at a point in the middle where, having cut her leg deeply on jagged metal, she uses the metal pins from an electronic component of a TV circuit board to carry out a surgical procedure on herself. That was pushing my suspension of disbelief too far.
Manifest (2018)
Well produced but too sentimental
I gave up on this. I put up with the daft pseudo-science because that's the norm nowadays for Netflix series. But the whole thing is far too derivative and sentimental. The characters are not believable, you just lose interest in them after a while. One saving grace (no pun intended) is that the characters eventually stopped discussing that what was happening to them was the will of God, and started instead focussing on our old friend, the secret US government conspiracy.
Overall it's like a poor amalgamation of Stranger Things (without the humour or good dialogue) mixed in with other assorted telepathy/time travel series. Just too much of a formula.
