The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Little wonder
That this movie slipped under the radar as the new Coen B's film...if this was a trial at a new style of movie making, I say forget it! Each segment is so predictable, you actually think something extraordinarily amazing will severe the end of these stories to leave you, as the Coens generally do, totally gobsmacked at the 'outcome'. Fear not. There are no clever twists or connections within these tales, what you think will happen, does! Forget it. Move on.
The Con Is On (2018)
Ouch
Ouch ouch, with Uma Thurman (yes, it is her) battling Dick Van Dyke for worse British accent ever, the film does not start well. But if you can grit your teeth through the green screen driving scenes, accent, bland characters and acting from Mr Roth as if he were in a Tarantino film (which he blatantly isn't) then I'm sure you'll love it.
Madame (2017)
Happy Ending?
Infidelity, lies, and 'putting on appearances' is at the centre of this film. No one is who they appear to be. A woman craves for attention, another lets her husband have an affair to confirm his dedication to her. An older man seeks solace without pressure. What we can first perceive as a true love soon manifests into one of shallow fancy, carried by whim and ended with a truth. If you want to see a stereotypical love affair with cute tied up with a ribbon ending, do not watch this film, If you are open to the reality of life, then this is one for you.
