Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
No one needed this to be made
Five Nights At Freddy's sounded fun at first. A comedic horror film with killer robotic animals. It's like chucky cheeses murder style!!!! Well I hate to say this but, this movie isnt how I expected it to be! Everyone in this film was good with performances! Some moments are just plain stupid. For my personal opinion, It's an unfunny, non scary, horror film that tries too hard to be scary and funny! It's good for younger people bc it's not intense but this movie was flat as anything for me and extremely boring. I feel bad for the actors bc trying to be scared of robotic teddy bears and crap is RIDICULOUS!
Pearl (2022)
My God Mia Goth!!!!!!! Pearl is unbelievable!
.... Pearl is a very rare breed in horror cinema and a rare prequel that in my opinion out does it's predecessor X. Pearl is an emotional, Stunning, disturbing tale showing the origin and birth of a serial killer that would do anything to get to the top. Mia Goth gives a beyond STUNNING performance especially for with her almost 10 minute monologue that is gut wrenching. If anyone enjoyed X I think you'll really enjoy just how different Pearl is compared to other horror films, it felt like a classic which TI West knows perfectly to do! She deserves a #OscarNomination!!!! But we know that the Oscar's don't take horror seriously at all which is pathetic!
The Curse of La Patasola (2022)
Grade A style B-Movie!
Listen if you're expecting "Curse Of La Llorona", Conjuring style scares and content....please don't go in assuming! Go with an open mind. I am HUGE HUGE on Horror films. I have seen PLENTY of CRAPPY movies, but "The Curse Of La Patasola" isn't really as bad as everyone else claiming. Yes this film is obviously low budget, but this movie at times gives you refreshing moments. I will say in the beginning it's pretty solid, about 3 times the scares were well done for a movie that wasn't HUGE budget. It's also apparent that the Director has studied Horror and tropes, cinematography was pretty good for what I saw. Now performances...some are messy and some are good, for the most part "La Patasola" is a unique story to do a CURSE of film in tradition to titles like "Curse of La Llorona, Curse of the Nun, Curse of the demon Nun list goes on with curse of and most are horrible rip offs of big budget films, this wasn't like those! Yes it has its dull and stupid moments but I enjoyed it!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
I can't think of anything more simple to say that this is the best marvel movie and what a phenomenal trio! I couldn't be happier with how the movie ended up being! The fight scenes were sick as can be, everyone's performances were stunning. Seeing all three of the Peters just was iconic and I cannot wait for the next chapters because this is perfection! #OscarWorthy. ITS A MUST SEE!
The Lodge (2019)
Couldn't wait for this...in the end big disappointment.
I can't even write a full review for this movie because it didn't work with me! Acting and cinematography and mood were perfection! As the film kept going and going it was pretty dull. I felt for the kids but no one else. Movie itself isn't scary at all, wasn't even disturbing. I fell asleep in the theater at the 50 minute mark and I had to rewatch and rent it when it came out and I still didn't like it! Like goodnight mommy the director favors in too much psychological themes without explaining the significance of it instead it's quick and non stop to be shocking but this movie wasn't. Goodnight mommy is way better of a film this isn't good in my opinion. I'd say skip.
Nomadland (2020)
Performances and idea are brilliant! Rest eh.
I really really wanted to love this film! Francis McDormand is a phenomenal actress in everything! The fact of a movie revolving around someone losing everything during the recession is powerful. Throughout the movie I enjoyed the performances and idea of the film, because this really happened. Unfortunately the movie is way too slow and honestly boring to invest in for myself. My parents love movies like this on a daily basis and I decided to watch it. We all looked at each other in disbelief because we felt mislead. Only thing great in this film is the actors. See it to see it, but seriously this isn't the best film or anything it could've been so much better! I don't understand reviews lately, they're completely off!
Saint Maud (2019)
Another a24 masterpiece, religious horror at its finest!
This movie was just unbelievable! Religious horror is very hard to do sophisticated and sinister to be good, but with Saint Maud with a runtime of 84 minutes and first time director Rose Glass executed it higher. With a simple plot with a care taker for someone famous who's terminally ill comes with something much more powerful. Glass has crafted truly an amazing atmospheric religious psychological horror film with its muted but brilliant color pallet and superb performances giving the audience a sense of dread from the very beginning. It's refreshing when it's predictable and then unpredictable, the last 20 minutes made the hairs all over my body stand up, my nerves shattered and held my breathe til the credits. All I said after was WOW!!!!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The Witches (2020)
High fashion witches, I loved it!
When The Witches 2020 was announced I was completely shocked and excited. First I was like that's interesting because whoever was gonna make it had big shoes to fill. Then Anne Hathaway was casted as "The Grand High Witch", was a perfect match. Couple weeks later Octavia Spencer and Stanley Tucci were added as well and I was all on board! Since COVID19 cancelled theaters to release films regularly, Warner Bros and HBOMax worked together to release it streaming on only HBOMax this October. Now the original 1990 film is and always will be iconic for Angelica Hustons' performance as "The Grand High Witch" is unlike anything. Anne Hathaway sold that role in a different way and it worked! As well as everyone else in the cast are all really good. There are certain aspects closer to the book and some different. Book had claws for fingers and nostrils and toes and the grand high witch being pretty but has a mask to cover her face. This version had everything that the book had expect her scary face was an elongated mouth and only came out when she was furious. I loved this touch and some won't at all. I will always be a fan of the 1990 version being so advanced with prosthetic puppets and makeup can appreciate its originality! As a whole I loved this re-imagined version by the iconic Robert Zemeckis and produced by Guillermo del Toro they did a great job. Some aspects are closer to the novel and minor changes, don't go in expecting the original. Go with an open mind. Do not listen to the negative reviews I didn't understand. This was a great modern adaptation! Stop being negative because it's a remake. It's fun! But not recommended for young children under 10
Mother! (2017)
Brilliant, atrocious and absolutely perfect.
I will just say how no matter what mother! Is one of the best films ever made and in my personal opinion Darren Aronofsky's best film of his career! He is absolutely brilliant on so many levels. Every single person acting in this movie was stunning especially Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Pheiffer. The film is assaulting to say the least. It is so beyond beautiful how he mixed surreal issues in the world from over history of time, such as the Bible, a cross between mostly Judaism and Christianity. There's dealing with loss, and one of the biggest is how relationships are tested when one isn't serious about them together. Darren made an earth horror film with extremely disturbing scenes of how society and earth has evolved through time and time again through every hardship caused by us! It makes us really focus how we can try and be better people instead of we being so selfish.
The Turning (2020)
I really didn't understand the hate.
So I have always been a huge fan of the infamous novel "TheTurn of the Screw" by Henry James. I absolutely loved "The Innocents" 1961 and when I heard they were making a modern version I was excited. The trailer looked amazing so I was already intrigued. When this film came out I read the reviews and they were absolutely atrocious! Scoring only an 11% on rotten tomatoes, I was horrified so I skipped it. Later on obviously I saw it, but only because I recently saw another terribly reviewed horror movie "Brahms: The Boy II" and I didn't understand the atrocious reviews I honestly thought it was better than the first. Anyway I bought the Blu-ray on amazon only $10 good deal. I was throughly impressed. The acting from everyone is great. It is absolutely beautifully shot. It kept my interests nothing seemed to be wrong on my viewing, this is just how I felt. Yes the ending was abrupt but it didn't make the film horrible. I feel that so many of the 2020 horror movies released between January-March were badly reviewed. I enjoyed it and that's why I am writing this review. I do recommend going with an open mind because lately critics have been wrong about films such as US, The Lodge, and so forth I didn't like those I was immensely disappointed with US especially so I trust my gut and my viewing of films.
The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)
This was absolutely terrible! They were trying too hard to be funny.
First was is a classic and fun horror teen comedy. This is just so bad in every aspect. Even the cast was honestly so mediocre in this sequel and they were all fantastic in the first. The script is lazy and takes itself too seriously to try and be funny. An interesting idea....and it got all mixed up within 20 mins.
The Grudge (2019)
Why was this hated so much?!
I actually thought this reboot of the "Grudge Franchise" was the absolute best since the first one. Now there are so many movies in this franchise as in Japanese and American versions. Now this particular film focuses on before the first grudge in 2004 and certain Ju-On's in Japan. Nicholas Pesce did a great job with this movie, honestly I feel that the only negative was that there are scenes that were cut to make it shorter. Now if you watch the deleted scenes after you watch the movie you would appreciate it more. The acting was pretty well done from everyone. I absolutely loved how in the beginning you see the original care taker before Yoko became the care taker, and then little later Karen in 2004. Another great aspect is that the house the original care taker became haunted after she arrived back from Japan. I don't understand why there was so much hate for this movie. Even though this specific movie is the more adult and graphic story of the franchise.
Cats (2019)
Cats is visually stunning, disturbing, amusing and weird
First off I only bought CATS because it was $4.99 for 4K digital on Black Friday sale on Vudu, the next day it went back to $19.99. Going into CATS I was expecting the absolute worst film just due to the amount of hate and criticism it got. But I have to say I feel as if the only reason they trashed CATS was really because this film is really not meant for kids. The film is overly sexual for kids, even though this was supposed to be for families the actual Broadway show wasn't. CATS was always meant for young adults. The music and acting is actually fine, I wasn't bothered by anything, of anything I feel that they rushed this film. Too many introductions of characters, the CGI was trashed too much! Although they could've done better with the hands and noses, everything else was stunning. Again this was trashed because this was way too sexual and dark for kids. The entire cast is technically a cult of cats trying to get a better life for the other world. Now cult of cats and fighting for the afterlife is way too much for kids! Taylor Swift who plays Bombalurina sings "Macavity" alongside Idris Elba was the best part of the film for me, just because it wasn't depressing, it felt like a Broadway Show should be. Although the part with her number singing about Macavity is very sexy and rather disturbing because she sprinkles a bunch of Catnip all over the entire clan of Jellicle's, and they all getting drugged up against their will. All in all I feel that anyone who loves musicals and likes a TRIPPY movie then this is for you! Bring your friends smoke some and watch!
Satan's School for Lust (2002)
By far one of Seduction Cinema's best Misty Mundae films!
I have been a huge fan of Erin Brown AKA (Misty Mundae). I always love her work, whether it's a serious role or a silly role. Most of the Seduction Cinema films are erotic spoofs of your favorite horror, comedy, reality anything. This film in particular I just rewatched and may I say this wasn't that bad for a soft-core horror film. We aren't talking about and Oscar film or an amazing movie at all, these films are simply guilty pleasure of watching. Originally titled "Satan's School for Sluts" they changed it to Satan's School for Lust to make it less inappropriate for home release or poster promotion. If you're a true Misty fan check this hidden gem from the leading studio of erotic horror cinema and the most renowned scream queen.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Best since iconic first Conjuring! Annabelle strikes again!
Annabelle Comes Home is a thrilling 3rd chapter to the Annabelle films and the 7th installment to The Conjuring Universe. From beginning to end I was glued to the screen. I really love how Gary Dauberman kept the feeling of real conjuring content and mood as well with throwing new themes and spirits. The film itself has a lot of comedic relief that is necessary instead of random lines thrown. Every single character played by the actresses and Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are flawless, you also care about every character deeply even when one of them seemed like not so nice person comes one of the nicest of all. The warrens reprising their roles was a beautiful thing, even though they don't have a significant amount of scenes we still have them and to also see before we get the Conjuring 3. Annabelle Comes Home is my favorite chapter since the first iconic Conjuring. HIGHLY recommended
Midsommar (2019)
Traumatized! My jaw was to the floor! Pure brilliance, amazing job Ari again!
Wow! Ok where do I start! Going into MidSommar I only knew it had to do with a rocky relationship between Chris and Dani and that they went to a Swedish festival to let loose! Meanwhile Dani is suffering from an immense amount of grief after losing her family suddenly. Dani drags along for the trip, once they all get there it's just very weird from the start. Sooner or later after they take this potion to make you trip and visualize horrific events. The Swedish festival ran by the villagers have a ceremony and commit a disturbing sacrifice of two volunteers. After seeing that Dani wants out to go home, shortly after everything starts getting extremely sadistic psychologically for the visiting friends from America. Everyone has visuals but mostly Chris and Dani are most messed up. The last act is cruel, vial and traumatic! I can't say too much or I'll spoil it! MidSommar is 2019 most disturbing, stunning and captivating experience I've ever seen, but it really really messed me up big time!
Suspiria (2018)
Suspiria 2018 is a atrociously stunning and fresh, a bold new vision!
Now I know a lot of fans of the original will not like this nearly as much as the 1977. I do have to say I love both films, they're so different but have a couple similarities between the two. Luca Guadagnino brought I felt a way more disturbing and dark twist to the euphoric dreamy original. Now that being said, I praise the original for at its time being so groundbreaking with the powerful colors and sound as well as cinematography. Everyone in this new version was flawless, especially Mia Goth she surprised me how powerful her role was compared to her other work. The only problem with the 1977 id say is that there really isn't a story, it's kind of bland. Where this new version was more in depth and longer, but most importantly character development and heart. In my opinion I prefer this one as a more satisfying film where I can appreciate the original for inspiring this and so many other trippy movies.
The Haunting of Sharon Tate (2019)
Haunting of Sharon Tate deserves more credit!
Ok to be honest right off the bat, I was expecting a really really awful film from all the atrocious reviews. Instead while watching this film I was pleasantly surprised by how much I really enjoyed it. The Haunting of Sharon Tate is portrayed and advertised since the beginning of shooting it is "Based on the true events from Sharon Tate's nightmares of the Manson murders". Now I know it's a daring project and story to come up with. I really enjoyed how great Hilary Duff was as Sharon Tate, I was nervous that she wouldn't pull off a serious role and especially in "Horror" genre. Hilary Duff was absolutely great! She gave her all and this is her BEST performance of her entire career, showed her growth as an actress. Everyone else in the film was good except for one of the female murderers she was awful. Now the only problem I would say about the overall film is how they stretched it a little too far after we saw or what we think we saw. Now I completely understand why the director did that to trick or be unique to a film and to his audience but a flow is what you look for in a film and it did but it also bounced back to go forward. Other than that "The Haunting of Sharon Tate" wasn't and doesn't deserve these horrible horrible reviews DO NOT PAY ATTENTION to the harsh critics. Go with an open mind, I mean it is from her point of view of her nightmare premonition of her death.
Us (2019)
Even Lupita's stunning performance couldn't save the film...
I was most excited to see this...but in the end us really didn't do anything for me at all. All the performances were perfect, plot and story. I hail get out as one of the best films ever and groundbreaking. Thought US would be the same, except the execution wasn't what I was told from critics and audiences. This movie isn't a horror film at all, I never felt so empty from a film. Too many references and political and racial all put in one and never explained fully, as well as characters and instances that were so pointless. I hate this film worst excuse for a horror film, I consider it a comedy I laughed too much because it was so unconvincing and stupid. I understand praising the performances not the film in all. Loved Half and hated half equal likes and dislikes to this film, I praise acting but message was sloppy.
The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
So it's a folktale....to some!
The Curse of La Llorona is a fun chilling ride! I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this film, what I'm also surprised at how people hate on this. Whether you BELIEVE or NOT, in Mexico back in the late 1600's there was a woman named Maria. Maria was said to be the most beautiful woman in all of that part of Mexico, she was from a poor family and village, but then met a very wealthy man who she married and had two children. As Maria found out her husband had an affair with a much younger woman, Maria out of complete anger she drowned her children and realized what she has done she then drowned herself. Her spirit now haunts the land and searching for children to take in replace of her own. What's the most interesting part of La Llorona is that it's not explicitly a conjuring film but it actually ties all the chapters even more than the NUN. I don't understand the negativity to this film. It is accurate to the real story of La Llorona mixed with a case involving the conjuring cases from the father in Annabelle. Acting is superb, cinematography and mood was perfect. Scared came off predictable and then wasn't I like that balance. Great addition to the conjuring universe, and it's scarier than the NUN and Annabelle
Hereditary (2018)
A family drama that becomes pure horror at its FINEST!
Hereditary is a film that comes rare. Unlike most horror films this one never used jump scares or cheap effects, this had imagery and sound like never before! The acting is absolutely flawless, especially Toni Collette. Toni has never performed so perfectly! She deserves a lot of recognition for her terrifying role as a grieving mother. Hereditary is a really sophisticated film that feels so real you forget you're watching a movie. The film is centers around the Graham family after a loss of their grandmother and dealing with family relationships that obviously are very off and uncomfortable. Annie basically is broken, but she breaks so unbelievably horrifying you'll never forget it. Her son peter is suffering just as bad after the horrid accident involving the death of his sister Charlie. Things couldn't get worse right? Well they get so much worse the Graham family starts experiencing terrifying occurrences throughout the grieving of both losses and trying to keep them together. Steve, Annie's husband is just not believing any of this involving his wife's friend Joan from the grief counseling sessions she secretly went to earlier on. After all this Steve thinks Annie cracked but really all these premonitions are real and actually happeneing because of the grandmothers connection to a cult falling to the hands of King Paimon. If you enjoy films like the witch, or rosemarys baby you'll LOVE this! It's my favorite film of all time, and of all horror! It's beautiful, disturbing as can be, depressing, unsettling, terrifying in so many ways.
The Possession of Hannah Grace (2018)
Worst title for this film, features great additional scenes on blu ray
Possession of Hannah Grace isn't your typical possession film. Yes it is similar in plot to Jane doe but this has one of the best exorcism scene since the in a while . Yes it's not the best but everyone has different taste. The fact the movie theater had scenes cut out that were very meaningful made me not like it at first. If you enjoy a simple horror film this is the choice don't listen to reviews.
