Star Trek: Picard (2020–2023)

Incredible turn around, season 3 is amazing!
9 March 2023
Season 1 was okay not bad but not great. Had its moments mainly involving... Don't want to spoil it.. Season 2 was a direct sequel to 1 in story but went horribly wrong and for the first time ever I just couldn't be bothered to watch the last episode, it was that bad. I even managed to finish season 4 of Discovery, that's how die hard a trekkie I am lol.

But season 3 is just genius and classic star trek from the start.

Episodes 3 and 4 especially blow me away.

Being Jonathan Frakes back as a director and actor just bring that magic the show was missing.

The story, the cast, the sets, music, effects, acting, humour, it has it all just down to perfection.

Watch them all of you are a die hard fan only, or just watch seaaon 3, you'll pick things up.

If they can keep this up for the rest of the season I will be a very happy trekkie.

Live long and prosper my friends.

Must Watch - One of the Greatest Shows of All Time!!
30 October 2022
Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould and the rest of the cast and crew deserve all the accolades they have already received and more.

How to follow up one of the greatest TV shows ever made? By making an even better one.

From the start of Season 1 you can tell they knew exactly where the story is taking Jimmy/Saul and how to get there. By the end of Season 6, the story was complete and told is such clever, funny, sad, moving and non Hollywood way. For me the perfect ending to a perfect show.

Jimmy, Kim, Michael and Fring - I will be back to see you again soon. You were all too good for me to keep away for long LOL.

Foundation (2021– )

Based on the first 3 Episodes
8 October 2021
I not read the books so I cannot compare but I am a massive Sci fan.

Based on what I have watched so far I think Foundation is incredible. The story is so intriguing, complex but told in an understandable way. The visuals are at times breath taking. The set designs is wonderful. Great performances all round.

If this standard is kept up from the rest of the series and the whole show in general, this could become a modern classic.

Let's hope eh!!

Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024)

Don't understand all the hate
15 April 2021
First of all, I'm a massive Star Trek fan. I've seen every episode of every series and watched all the movies more than once.

Star Trek Discovery, for me at least, is as good as the all other series.

People have to remember that the older series had 20-26 episodes per season, which gave them plenty of time to develop stories and characters.

Even though Discovery has half as many episodes I still feel character development has been excellent. Tilly, Stamets, Saru and Philippa being some of the standouts.

Yes, it is mostly focused on Michael but if you think about it, the other series mostly focused on the core characters, the elite bridge crew, especially at the start, and then expanded as the series of progressed.

ST:NG was rubbish, in my opinion, till series 3. Same goes for ST:DS9. But they both grew to become some of the most amazing Sci Fi shows created.

Season 3 hasn't been as good as season 2 so far but I'm still enjoying it and can't wait for more.

Here's my ranking of the ST series, from best to worst:

Voyager Next Generation Discovery (based on Seasons 1 & 2) Deep Space Nine Enterprise (ended too soon) Star Trek Original Series (Loved Spook and Bones, hated Kirk) Picard (really struggled with this one, even though Picard is my favourite Captain)

Excellent anime with a couple of issues
18 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly, I'm a 48yr old man from the UK so bear that in mind.... The quality of the art work and animation is top class and the music and soundtrack are also extremely good and of a very high standard. The story itself was amazing and kept me interested from start to finish and I can't wait to continue Tanjiro and Nezuko's story when the movie arrives. The relationship between the brother and sister was very moving and well voice acted by the Japanese actors. The "demons" were very imaginative and the battle scenes were incredible from start to finish. The use of 3D animation for some of the battles was very well done and did not detract all at. Tanjiro shows great compassion and maturity through the show which really impressed me. It made the anime feel more grown up and mature. Unfortunately there are comedy elements which I found very jarring and annoying in at times. The Inosuke and especially Zenitsu characters felt out of place considering the dark, horror tone of the anime and made it feel somewhat childish to me. Also Zenitsu cringe worthy attitude towards the women in show felt out of place but thankfully it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the show. Overall a great show and I can't wait for the movie, which carries on directly from the last episode of the anime.

Even better than the first movie
4 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I haven't laughed so much during a film in a long time. It's just as crude as the first film but with more heart and even more clever digs at some of the dumb people of American and their politics. Cohen is like marmite, you either love him or hate him but I for one love everything he does. Special shout out has to go to Maria Bakalova. She was amazing in her first role and was as funny as Sacha. They made an excellent team and I hope to see them together in future films. Oh Yeah!!! Seeing Rudy G flirting badly and getting caught with his hands down his pants was GOLDEN.

Loved every episode of every season so far
16 December 2020
As a gamer and an anime fan this series ticks all the boxes for me. The first season drew me in and it has kept me glued to the screen ever since. Great stories, great characters, amazing settings with some very original ideas and also some very touching moments. It has everything. The animation style is great, not the best I've seen but still pleasing to the eye. The battle scenes were amazing, especially the battles in season 2. Unlike a lot of anime, the female characters are well written and strong in their own right and are just as much heroes as the male characters. Overall it is one of my favourite anime series so far and I would highly recommend it. UPDATE - I've just finished all seasons and the standalone movie as well and WOW, what an amazing anime. For me it just got better and better and I cannot wait for the final series when it finally arrives.

The Irishman (2019)
9/10
Another Scorsese Masterpiece
7 December 2020
I'm a massive fan of Scorsese's films so when I heard about The Irishman I was super excited. The dream team were being reunited again for another sprawling gangster flick. But after reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried that the film would not like up to my expectations. How wrong I was!! The direction, the script, the old school cinematography, the soundtrack and the stellar acting from all the cast was just mesmerising. Originally my wife (who has a short attention span) and I were planning to split watching the film over two days due to it's length. But once we started watching the film we couldn't stop till the credits rolled. Even now, I can't stop thinking about the film and all the characters and the story and have been researching Frank Sheeran ever since. Goodfellas will always be my favourite gangster flick but Casino and now The Irishman are in my top 5 list. The performances from the lead cast were incredible, especially from Pesci and De Niro. I've never been a big fan of Pacino's over the top style of acting but it worked really well in this films because Hoffa was that type of character.

If this is the last time we get to see De Niro & Pesci directed by Scorscese in a film of this type then I think The Irishman was a fitting send off for these gents, who made this British guy fall in love with American Italian killers.

Wonderful and very moving
21 March 2020
What an amazing show from start to finish. Each episode had me smiling, laughing and crying. I fell in love with the characters straight away. The acting was incredible and so natural. The chemistry between the three leads was believable and felt real and the supporting cast were just as good. I could happily watch this all over again just to see these wonderful characters again. It was that good.

Incredibly Moving, Sad, Disturbing but rewarding. A Must for Everyone
4 September 2019
I heard about this series a few months ago but resisted watching it until because I knew it would be a difficult show to watch and was I right! Being from the UK I only knew a little of true story of the Central Park 5 so I wasn't fully prepared for the horrors that occurred to those poor innocent boys. The show doesn't talk about racism much but focuses on the criminal injustice and the affects on the five boys and their family. The acting across the board was incredible and so realistic and moved me to tears in each of the four episodes. Jharrel Jerome in particular gave an Oscar worthy performance as Korey Wise and was the only actor to play both the teenager part and the adult part. The saddest part is that this kind of injustice still exists in America and there are countless innocent people of all backgrounds and races who are victims of bad policing and the terrible justice system. Regardless, this is must watch TV and the best thing I've seen in decades.

Amazing from start to finish
20 March 2019
I just finished the final episode and the standard was incredibly high from start to finish. Very original, with some very intriguing and interesting plots that leaving you wanting more. The quality of the animation, from the traditional handdrawn, to the photo realistic CGI was breaktaking. I hope really Netflix produce something similar again. Very very impressive.

One Of the Best TV Shows Ever!!
6 February 2018
This is the first time I've written a review on IMDB but I just had to tell the world how amazing this show is. If you have even a passing interest in crime drama, the Mafia or just good quality television and you are not squeamish, then you owe to yourself to watch this show. I have watched all of season 1 and 2 and every episode has been outstanding. It has everything..... An amazing story, full of twists and turns. A very realistic and incredibly gritty setting, nothing like the American gangster films or TV shows. Outstanding acting from every cast member, you will grow to love, hate and mourn. Beautiful camera work and cinematography. It reminds of me of The Wire, in it's realistic depiction of drug dealing at the street level. Like The Wire, it is not for the faint hearted. The violence is brutal and realistic but that is the nature of the beast. If you do decide to watch it, please watch it in this original Italian, the performances are too good to be spoilt by watching a dubbed version.

A big thank you to everyone involved in the making of this series. Amazing work.
