Eh...
23 April 2019
Italian revisitation of the Musketeers tale. Taken for what it is and not seriously, it's a fun movie with really good actors and comedic times that work perfectly. Too bad the characters are badly developed, there's really no one to emphatize with and the story abruptly ends with a dishonest and unnecessary twist. After that, you think about all the movie and you realize that suddenly nothing really makes sense. Plus, Favino is an incredible actor, but his character talking half italian and half french/spanish (the accent is really that confusing) is really hard to endure. Definitely a missed opportunity to do something different.

What's up with these Netflix movies?
27 March 2018
I've been watching a few of these "original Netflix" movies (such as The Babysitter, The Open House, Temple, etc.) and I noticed that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has a very slow pace or it's totally forgettable. Why can't Netflix produce some good stuff and not only slow, poorly acted and cheap movies?

This one was different, tho: the story was quite entertaining and they actually paid attention to the settings, the costumes and the sceneries. The music was eerie enough and the acting was decent. But the pace is VERY slow and at times I had to ffwd (and still I didn't miss a single bit of the story). Due to a bad direction, sometimes the plot is uneventful and the horror vibe is quite weak throughout the movie. Above many other horror movies I've seen, but totally not great.

Weak
1 February 2018
I'll give it 5 stars out of 10 because the cinematography and the acting were on point: Minnette is very talented and the actress playing his mother is quite believable in her role. Besides that, the movie desperately lacks originality and suffers serious pacing issues: the whole thing is goreless, some characters - like the crazy neighbor playedb by Patricia Bethune - abruptly disappear from the storyline and tension is very predictable. I didn't expect the final turn of events (thank God, I thought it would end with the most plain, stupid happy ending), but it's avery very weak movie. I've seen worse, tho.

Not as bad as everybody says (CONTAINS SPOILERS)
14 November 2017
This direct-to-video remake of the 1987 film gained pretty negative reviews almost everywhere, but I don't think it's that bad: sure, it's very predictable and it kinda lacks the tension of the original, but it's far better than many other thriller/horror flicks out there. The acting is on point, the technical direction is good and the story flows well resulting to be quite entertaining. Also, the characters are not so obvious: when Dylan Walsh/David snaps while fumbling with knives, he mentions that "boys need to be educated with hits and violence" and he may be alluding to his own twisted education, the origin of his madness. The only true turnoff is the ending: repeating the same scenario of the opening was not a smart move. After all, folks... it's a direct-to-video, one must not expect too much from it.
