The Outer Limits: The Zanti Misfits (1963)
Zanti Misfits nightmares !
I first watched this when I was 8 years old and had nightmares of Zanti Misfits crawling up my bed. This upset my Mother no end !
So if you are very young and/or of a nervous disposition I recommend avoiding this one.
Otherwise watch this and try to stay calm.
Love this episode and it still gives me the creeps.
Killing Eve: Are You from Pinner? (2020)
Magnificent episode from a brilliant series.
A special episode this one.
It goes without saying, superb performances from all the cast, and Jodie Comer pulls out all the stops here.
Deep, powerful with many layers. repeated watching (as with most of the episodes in this series) and delivers many insights to the character of Villanelle.
Amazing drama that you cannot afford to miss, especially if you are a big fan of this series.
Watch it !
Trainspotting (1996)
A drugs movie for yuppies
A movie that necessitates narration is usually poor in my opinion (a notable exception may be Goodfellas). This is worse however due to naivety of the movie which does not feel at all realistic.
It has that pretense of 'hey, I've just watched a drugs movie, I'm cool' about it.
Compare it to Ill Manors (by Ben Drew) which is far superior in every way possible.
For this reason I personally have little respect for Danny Boyle and was very happy to hear that Cary Joji Fukunaga is replacing him as director of Bond 25.
Ill Manors (2012)
Here's a bit of advice for Plan B...
... Make another one !
This is a masterpiece !
If you just watch it once, then you don't get it. Gets better every time I watch it.
A lot of hard work has gone in to making this movie, and it shows.
10/10 without any question.
Barada.
The Ninth Gate (1999)
Every now and then, something special turns up - this is one of those occasions.
I am shocked, that this film has such a low rating. This film ticks all the boxes and more.
Hitchcockian suspense that keeps you wondering what is going to happen next.
Great atmosphere, clever, subtle cinematography and pace.
Great acting that fits this type of film.
I've been glued to this film all of the four times I've watched it this week.
If I had the money I would buy the books (watch the film - no spoilers here !)
Highly recommended.
A well deserved 10/10 from me, and a film that you can re-watch and enjoy.
Down Terrace (2009)
A masterpiece actually.
On repeated viewings, this film becomes more enjoyable as a very, very, very dark comedy.
Initially as a crime/drama it has an endearing and shocking effect, but I can't help feeling that Ben Wheatley's intention for this was to be a dark comedy.
It's raw, disturbing, but the outrageous psychosis in this film now has me laughing all the way through.
The acting, claustrophobic camera work and the music are excellent.
Deserves a 9/10.
