One Piece (2023)
I guess I'm the only one who doesn't love it?
I watched about 300 episode of the original anime and I loved it but I never thought I would enjoy a live action anime and I still don't think I ever will. Here are my main issues with it:
1. This isn't really one piece. They drastically changed the story. And for the worst may I add. It felt like I was watching an alternative universe fanfic that someone decided to make a film for. I way prefer the original story. Some scenes just felt empty compared to what we've seen in the anime. To me a lot of the emotional impact was lost with nami's betrayal. Would it really hurt to make her look like the bad guy for a few episodes? Instead arlong comes to baratie so it feels like she wouldn't even have gone back if he hadn't come for Luffy. In the anime I at least was afraid if she actually betrayed them. Here it was clear that she didn't. Or at least didn't want to.
2. World building and magical elements. One piece is a world full of very bizarre phenomenons like the restaurant in the middle of the sea or the clown pirate that can be chopped up and reassembled. So the most reasonable medium to convey such a fairy tale like story would be animation, wouldn't it? (Yes it would and it was). So why do we need a live action? So netflix can get even richer? It just feels like a lot of the magic of the original is lost here.
3. Dialogue. The dialogue wasn't funny. Like at all. There was one scene total that made me laugh but I don't even remember what that was now. Most of the dialogue is just meant to be oh-so witty but it comes out being cringe or weird. And I don't feel like any of the actors made these lines sound less awkward to be honest.
4. The characters. First of all why is garp here? This show just spoiled the real one piece for me thanks so much for that. Second of all why do they ALL look like they're cosplaying. Nami's wig (or is it dyed hair?) looks fake as hell. All of the people with colorful hair look like they're wearing cosplays from AliExpress. Maybe it's just me but i can't unsee it now. To be completely honest usopp is the only one who looks like he could actually be an actor playing usopp and not a guy who bought a cheap costume. I'm not even going to mention shanks...
5. Show not tell. I feel like this show fails on that point pretty often. I mean, when nami told Zoro in a coma what she felt it was kind of stupid. She didn't explain her feelings in the og like that. And she didn't need to because the audience is not stupid and we understand from the story.
6. The story itself. Why do we need to change a good story if we can't write a better one? If I look at this show as a standalone piece completly separate from its source material, I have to say it was mid. It was forgettable. It was boring. It seemed like things are just happening but because of the show's faster pace we don't even have time to take it in and think about it. Here's a new character oops he's a bad guy and he died but he's alive but here's a new character and we repeat this cycle through the series.
This is all just my opinion but I think one piece live action never had any potential and sadly it didn't change my mind in the end. But I'm glad people like it...
Supai Famirî (2022)
Definitely one of my favorites
This show is so heart warming and adorable, but also very funny at the same time. Most of the characters are loveable and have an interesting personality. The whole concept of the show is intriguing.
Komi-san wa, Komyushou Desu. (2021)
Average?
I gave it a 5, just like on MyAnimeList, where 5 signifies average.
This really is the best way to describe this anime in my opinion. The first episode is a masterpiece, that said it might be the only saving grace of this series. Komi's character is based on an interesting concept that's carried out rather poorly. At first she seems interesting but as the story continues she still doesn't speak and her character becomes quite boring. Tadano is so average that it hurts, I would even argue that he doesn't have a personality. Other than them, pretty much every character is a stereotype. You have the social butterfly, the yandere, the chunibyou etc. The episodes quickly become insanely dull, I completely lost interest.
One Piece: Wan pîsu (1999)
Starts slow, but gets better
One Piece starts out fairly slowly and the arcs in the beginning are some of the worst ones in the entire series. That said, they're still decent, because even the worst arc in the series is okay, and most of the are simply amazing.
Luffy is a loveable main character, who manages to gather a very memorable crew. Every single main character is completely unique and very intriguing.
Sanji has some problematic personality traits (being typical perverted character), but he's still way more lovable than other such characters in other animes.
Overall great, amazing character designs, iconic soundtrack.
But why did they have to nerf Franky's hair???
