The Greatest Showman (2017)
Ok show, weak showman
Well I gotta be honest - I'm not the biggest musical fan out there, but my favorite piece of art right now is Hamilton and becouse of that I decided to watch some of the most popular musicals of last few years.
I kinda like the style of it. I mean CGI's terrible, but I thought the sets were beautiful as well as the costumes. And I gotta say - almost all of the songs were very good. Almost, becouse the second song (can't remember the name) was too long and I really don't like This Is Me. It just really didn't fit in this part of the movie, it was just a distraction from what was going on with Hugh Jackman's character.
Hugh Jackman is awesome, as well as every actor and actress - Zandaya was a little bit wasted for me (she only appered in few scenes) but she was incredible in all of them. And it's always nice to see Zack Efron in something that's not crappy comedy.
But me main problem is the fact that Hugh Jackman's character starts as a good, simple man, than becomes an opsessed with power dick... And than becomes a good person again. Why? Wouldnt it be more interesting to see him leave his family and becoming 'the greatest showman'. It felt to family movie like which isnt a bad thing but for me it didn't fit in this story or this idea.
Astérix : Le Secret de la potion magique (2018)
Good jokes, weak plot
New Asterix movie has some great parts. A lot of really good slapstick, some adult jokes that really work, really good animation, fast paste, and again - it's just very funny, I will remember the Jesus joke, and a lot of other stuff for a while.
Unfortunetly I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to becouse the plot was just so boring, and so complicated. It was just way too much for an 80 minutes movie.
Don't get me wrong - I didn't went to the theater to see this movie for the plot, I just wanted to see some jokes, nice animtion and all that. If this plot was just generic - than that's by me. But it was just to complicated and often bothered.
It's still an okey movie and I still recomend to go see it, even if you don't have kids. It still has some great parts and great animation.
Kick-Ass 2 (2013)
Good comedy, not so good movie.
I was so surprised how much I enjoyed Kick-Ass 2. I love the first one, it's one of my favourite superhero movies, it's funny, it has great action scenes, but it focuses on the characters and for me it was the thing that dissapointed me in the sequel.
Like the first one it is very funny, has great fight scenes (although one battle in the middle fell to slow for me) and it works for a superhero comedy, it's better than Deadpool or LEGO Batman movie, and it's really fun.
My biggest problem is the fact that Chris, a villain in this one is turned into a joke, and an idiot. Don't get me wrong, he's really funny, but in the first one he was a character, he had motivations, we could like him or feel sorry for him. Here he's an idiot and a joke, funny joke, but it's not the same.
Smaller problem is the fact, that there are som plot points that just stop, or don't go anywhere, but it isn't something that bothered me that much.
Overall if you're a fan of superhero movies or action comedies, you really should check it out, it's a good time, but it's not a good film.
The Equalizer (2014)
Too long, man
So I watched this movie, 'couse becouse of christmas I have some free time and I just wanted to watch good, simple action movie to relax.
My problem with The Equalizer is the fact that it's over two hours long and that's way too much, becouse the plot is very simple. Hour and a half would be just fine but it feels just way to long.
Action scenes are fine. They're not nearly as good as fight scenes in John Wick, but they're fine. My problem is that they were too dark and it wasn't always clear what's happening.
I really liked the actors. - Denzel Washington was good, but Chloe Moretz stole every scene she was in. She was as great as usually.
The other thing that was missing for me was some humor, but it's not a big flow.
Overall it's okey. If you haven't seen John Wick, or new Mission Impossible movies, or A Man From U. N. C. L. E. I recomend any of those over The Equalizer but if you have and you like action movies. - It'll do alright.
Star Trek: Generations (1994)
When was it made?
I have to start this review by saying that I've only seen few star trek movies witch is important 'couse I think that if I would see more of them I wouldn't like this movie actually. But I haven't seen a lot of Star Trek movies, so... I liked it.
But let's start from the things I didn't like. - The effects look okay today but I think that they sucked when this movie came out, 'couse it looks like a movie that was made in late 70s or early 80s. But the movie was made in 1994. It's kind of like Dark Tower, which was made in last year, but it feels like 10 years old film.
One of the plot points of this movie is a story of an android named Data, that tries to understand human emotions. For the most part it's played like comic relief, and even though I liked it at first I realiesed that it's just the same joke saying over and over again.
At the beginig the plot was hard to follow, but in the middle it got interresting and I got invested. The finale was a lot of fun, even though the villain sucks. The conversations between captains Picard and Kirk were also well made.
Over all. - It's okay. It's not a great movie I don't even think it's a good movie, the plot's generic, but it's just fun.
The 'Burbs (1989)
Title
The movie's about Tom Hanks's character, who with his friends "investigates" the curious case of a small family that just moved in. I'm not gonna go more specifficly about it, you can read the details here, on IMDb.
I think this movie is okay. I really like the feel of it, I enjoy most of the humor and I think that most of the sets are very nice but I think the neighbour's house could be made better.
All the characters are likable, actors are ok, but best friend of our hero is a littlebit goofy.
The ending I won't give away but it's both satisfaing and is not. The characters learn something and I love the scene with angry Tom Hanks telling what he thinks about what happened. But the final confrontation seemed very short and anticlimacting.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Non stop laughing
So the first 30 minutes of this movie is in my opinion so, so. It's a good build up, but the only thing we have are characters, and from the beginig we can predict who's gonna die first, who's gonna be a final girl etc. But no one can predict what happens later!
About 30-40 minutes in the movie Leatherface shows up and the first scenes with him, when he kills his first victoms are actually kind of creepy. We don't know anything about him and it's all just weird. In a good way. And the scene where he starts to pray is in my opinion the best example of that.
But then the movie suddenly becomes masterpiece. The dinner scene is... Awesome. It's one of the weirdest, funniest and most bizzare things I experienced for a long time. I won't give it away but if you love weird things you won't be disappointed, I can promise you that. Hit her grandpa!!!
