Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Good story until political wokeness
Story and effects were standard Marvel.
Then around 43 minutes into the movie the Hollywierd writers showed up with their LGBTQ+xyz message around 43 minutes into the movie.
So unnecessary. Seems movies and life can't exist in 2022 without a full representation of every woke faction.
The Batman (2022)
Lost the essence of Batman...
While I understand that the writers and director were trying to humanize Batman, they actually lost the core essence of Batman.
I think this will be a solid nail in the Batman coffin. It's time for DC to retire this superhero and focus on one of the other characters in their vast library. Needless to say, they are losing not just the battle with the movie but the war against Marvel.
Here are a few good suggestions to bring to the big screen:
- firestorm
- Martian man hunter
- origins for Katana
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Better show if writers would stay out of politics
I would've given the show a 8 or 9 but starting in Season 2 episode 3 and 4 the writers decided to inject their own personal political opinions into the story line.
Nothing like trying to watch your favorite genre of science fiction and while being bombarded with the villanization of ICE and other institutions.
But I guess this is the new style of writing from Paramount shows as Discovery has all but wiped white people out of their view of the future.
Truly a sad approach to what should be entertainment. Keep it up and you will alienate a vast group of people who grew up on Star Trek. 😕
1883 (2021)
It's no Open Range or Tomstone
This is the new trend in tv westerns. We need to weave as much drama (eg the female narrator) into a genre that has traditionally been more gritty.
Generally some good to great acting. Sam Elliott gets a 10/10. He is truly one of the all-time best western actors.
Guessing I'm going to enrage the Yellowstone fans but once again a series of show that seems to suck in the women viewers with the drama they missed see during the daytime crap.
Chicago Med (2015)
Good show but the writers need to be careful
I'd give the show a 9.5 but the writers of the show have started treading into the world of politics.
In S7 E12 'what you don't know can't hurt you', the writers chose to portray an expectant mother who refuses the C19 vaccine as a crazy person.
We get enough of this nonsensical portrayal from daily news. Viewers searching for entertainment don't need to be bombarded with the writer's political opinions.
Be careful writers or you will alienate a large group of the US and they will tune out.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
This is not your mother's show
I'm a long time HIMYM fan and regularly watch the exploits of NPH and a fantastic cast.
This cast has mediocre appeal and even worse wardrobe. I predict a one season cancel.
SPOILER - new writers clearly don't understand the original show that lead viewers along a multi season evolution finally making the connection to who would eventually be the 'mother'. The new writers blew this idea with the obvious disclose within the first episode.
I'll give it a couple more episodes.. say to Ep 5.. out of pure respect to the original. Not sure if it is the acting but probably as equally questionable is the lack luster writing.
Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
Would've given it 10 if it weren't for politics
Can't anyone write a show without politics nowadays?
The Dianne Wiest character portrays a prison teacher who the writers decided to make preaching CRT. Then they took an nonfactual portrayal of a lethal injection. I've had the unfortunate displeasure of seeing lethal injection live of the monster who killed my brother-in-law and there is no pain and flopping around.
Thank you Hollywood writers for injecting your bias into an otherwise well acted gritty crime drama.
No Time to Die (2021)
Lacking the traditional punch of the old Bond
Seemed to be an overly lengthy film with overdone melodrama and a completely unnecessary ending.
Suffice to say without ruining the ending, there has never been an ending like this to any Bond film and I hope there never will be in the future. Based upon the ending, I'm assuming the rumors of a future for a more politically correct Bond hero are likely true.
If Bond films go the politically correct route and trade traditional entertaining action films for correctness, I fear they will alienate the majority of their fan base.
Dune (2021)
A New Beginning but not even close to original Dune
I'm a huge fan of the original Dune movie. That said, the new Dune was slow and can't be compared to the prior movie that included an amazing score from Queen.
With so much opportunity, this movie fell short.
Spoiler- this movie is the first of many and does not come to a clean conclusion. Unlike the promises of a new Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, they failed to realize that a movie must stand on its own.
War Machine (2017)
Confusion Over Content and Approach
One of the oddest movies I've seen in a while. I assumed from the preview of the Brad Pitt character that the movie would be a satire or comedy. Unfortunately, the movie seems to wander from political commentary to drama to satire... a big melting pot that doesn't evolve.
The only surprise is that the overall message about Obama was that he was an "orator" and incompetent about running the military. While that message is not surprising, what was surprising was the liberal Hollywood celebs like Pitt that sold the message.
If you are left leaning, then you won't be let down as this movie released on Memorial Day (choke...) brings it back home with the narrator firmly planting an anti-American rhetoric and anti-war message. At least the message is consistent since the end of the Vietnam War,
