Welcome to Wrexham: The Quiet Zone (2023)
Inclusivity matters
This episode honestly made me cry some little happy tears. It is quite crazy that since this episode was made, Rob McElhenney has also received a diagnosis of neurodivergency and has spoken out about how he experienced sensory issues going to sports matches when he was younger but forced himself to work through it. He and his son sat in the quiet zone at a game at the start of this current season and Rob said how much it helped the both of them. James McClean also spoke out about being autistic and recently receiving a diagnosis. It's quite timely that this episode was made and released around the same time. I think it just shows how much an episode like this is needed. Millie's story made me cry so much. Autism is a super power and should be viewed as such. It was also so lovely to see Mullin be such a good and supportive dad to his son. Not every autistic child unfortunately gets the support he's giving his son. This episode deserves awards, nothing less.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Sarian (2022)
Heartbreakingly beautiful
I always love when I see that Katie McElhenney wrote an episode of Mythic Quest. Every single time it means it's going to be one of the best episodes of this show but it's going to hurt my feelings in unimaginable ways. She is definitely one of my favorite television writers and I am always so glad Rob brought her onto the show. This episode was beautiful in it's storytelling and heartbreaking with the backstory it gives to Ian and Poppy. The last scene with Ian and his father has stuck with me for hours after finishing the episode. It's haunting and leaves you broken hearing that little kid scream. The one-off episodes of this show remain to be some of their best work.
A.P. Bio: Love, for Lack of a Better Term (2021)
borderline unwatchable
The episode is incredibly uncomfortable to watch. I'll give them that high school is an uncomfortable time and Victor is an awkward kid but as someone who went through high school at the same time this show is set, it truly felt like whoever made this had never talked to a current teenager. Everything about it is so weird from the pressure on Victor to take nudes to the "make out party" to everything else that went on. Having a young character give in to peer pressure and have it be seen as a positive in the end just is uncomfortable to me. I would've rathered they focused on the renn faire for an episode rather than this to make up for the insane lack of schemes this season. Really disappointed by this season as a whole.
A.P. Bio: Tornado! (2021)
kinda ...
Just saying it's a little bit odd that the main "ship" out of all the "ships" in the episode is Jack and Durbin yet those two always *almost* kiss but they had the ladies full make out with Dale and Jack kissed Lynette. The joke for half the episode is "haha men doing gay things is funny" so why not just commit to it? Feels off to me.
A.P. Bio: The Perfect Date from Hell (2021)
Lynette deserved better
Can't believe they introduced Lynette in season 2 for the sole purpose of her being Jack's love interest then seemingly threw it away because Liz Alderfer had scheduling conflicts but then introduced this new girlfriend in record time without any moment in between for Jack to process his emotions. It seemed pretty out of character for him to move on from Lynette to Shayla like that without a second thought. Especially since Lynette was one of the only things keeping him in Toledo and without her, you'd think his first thought would be to immediately start trying to leave again. Episode 5 onward just seems very out of character for Jack when it comes to Shayla. He easily could've been single for a bit til Liz was available to film again. Not every male main character needs a love interest all the time.
A.P. Bio: Tons of Rue (2021)
Better than expected
I was fully expecting Jack to forgive his father in the end and I am very grateful they did not go that route. Lots of shows have the "absent parent returns and gives half an apology and is forgiven" story and it's always rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad for once Jack did something petty and it turned out he was right and it was deserved. My heart shattered for him when the waitress told him that his father climbed out the window. He didn't deserve to have that happen.
A.P. Bio: The Harvard Pen (2021)
meh
After a season full of changes for Jack, it seemed a bit odd to just have an almost entirely one-off episode about his pen for a finale rather than tying up any loose ends before the next season. His breakup with Llynette is barely addressed, his relationship with Shayla honestly is very abrupt and sloppy, and his reunion with his dad doesn't get talked about at all afterwards. The finale could've been used to talk about any of these issues but they don't. This season fell flat compared to 1-3. I hope season 5 gets back on track.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: TBD (2021)
rob wasn't kidding when he said the season finale feels like a series finale
This show. This god dang show. I did not know where anything was going this season and I certainly did not expect it to end up here. That being said, I am certainly excited for the future of this show as I have no idea where it could possibly go. I just hope the quality stays where it is cause this season has been incredible. Someone just give Rob McElhenney his Emmy already.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Juice Box (2021)
god damn
Man this show just finds new ways to punch me in the gut every time I watch it. This episode really got me. I had wondered for a while, having read the description for the episode back when the premiere aired, how this episode was going to play out and nothing I thought of could've prepared me for this. I really loved this episode like I've loved this whole season. They really outdid themselves this year. Very excited for the finale.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Peter (2021)
"watch out for stobor."
I knew before the season started that CW was going to have a two episode arc that hit you in your feels pretty hard but I didn't expect them to be this god damn good. There was something about the flashbacks in this episode that really hit me good especially the last one of Peter and CW. I really loved this episode. Humphrey Ker wrote one hell of an episode. I hope to see him do more in the future.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Backstory! (2021)
Mazin & McElhenney: The Dream Team
Craig's writing and Rob's direction truly made this episode so good. Not to mention, Josh Brener gives one hell of a performance. If they don't get an Emmy nomination this year, it's a sham.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Please Sign Here (2021)
Fantastic Episode
This has got to be one of my top favorite episodes of the show. It had me crying laughing and also in pain for the characters towards the end. Katie McElhenney has to be one of my favorite writers for this show as everything she writes is pure gold between Dark Quiet Death and this. Absolutely so good.
Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Dax Shepard/John Wilson/Idkhow (2021)
so true
It was absolutely incredible getting to see the idkhow boys on national tv playing a song about leaving toxic situations and embracing the unknown. they deserve everything and more. stream razzmatazz.
Supernatural: Drag Me Away (From You) (2020)
Why
The majority of this episode felt out of character especially the flashbacks of young Sam and Dean. I know there's a lot going on by this point in the story but oh boy did Dean especially feel out of character the entire time. The entire episode felt forced and was a waste. There's so much more they could've done than fill episode slots with useless fillers.
A.P. Bio: That That That (2020)
Absolutely Incredible
That That That is by far the best episode of A.P. Bio ever. The writing is incredible, the camera work is phenomenal, and the acting is astounding. Glenn Howerton proves once again that he's incredibly talented and capable of anything. This episode set the bar for future A.P. Bio episodes. Truly a work of art.
