Dune (2021)
Not for me
I consider myself to be somebody that can follow a film even when it has very minute nuances and plotlines but I have to say that two weeks after watching this film I really still do not know what it was all about. I nodded off at one point despite the great acting I really had no idea what it was all about. I noted that it is part one so perhaps in part two they'll actually explain what's going on. As I said I don't consider myself to be an idiot, far from it but this one went far far over my head. For a sci-fi buff if I was seriously disappointed after the hype.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Best one yet
I love these films but this one was the best one yet! Great comedy bringing ensemble and of course your Saint Benedict Cumberbatch who has class to every film. Spider-Man versus Spider-Man of my youth and I'm 55 now good comedy excellent acting. I love how the filmmakers managed to make us think this is the first time we've ever seen the Spider-Man or this as SJ etc absolutely loved the comebacks of to comebacks of Characters.
Don't Look Up (2021)
I liked it. Easy watch and entertaining
I really liked this film. It was easy to watch and I thought the acting was superb. It was complex in places although I think some of the reviews missed that.
It really kept me guessing until the end even though it kind of was obvious but I didn't read anything beforehand and I think that's what made the film superb for me. As entertainment I was entertained I'm sure if that's the point of these things. Leo at his best I think. Bit of comedy which he does well and is underrated for.
Life After Life (2022)
A great find. Stumbles across on BBC2
I watched the four part drama without having ever read the book which is probably a good thing as my mild dyslexia would've probably made the book blow my mind.
Beautifully acted and I did not mind the narration although some reviews have said it was quite distracting. I think it added to the reminders that you needed as to whereabouts in time you were.
I think it's up with some really good issues such as domestic violence, suicide and loss and I think it did it really well.
There were times when I was a bit frustrated that in the early part of the drama she was able to go back and make some changes in order to make things better, like pushing the maid down the stairs, but she never seem to be able to save her brother.
The reason I have not two points off is because once again it has the most dreadful non-ending. I don't know whether it's the same as in the book and I'm not saying that I like everything to be happy and complete closure but I cannot stand things that keep you gripped for four hours and then end with a kind of whimsical look on the train without really explaining how she intended to live the rest of her life.
For me it ruined what had been a great four hours but that does not detract from me giving it 8 out of 10. I don't know why is the authors and program makers find the need to think that the viewer wants to have some kind of experience way after a program is finished. I don't.
