Excruciating
24 January 2022
One of the most excruciatingly awful movies I have ever seen. It is saved by the unbelievable overacting of David Suchet, and the same from the actress who plays his wife. Most of the characters are one-dimensional caricatures, a fact that adds to the exaggerated plot and, again, the scenery-clawing performances. Suchet deserves an Oscar for excessive excess.

Mickey, WTF?
22 May 2021
Sad to see Mickey Roark in such a bad flick. As one other reviewer said, the crowbar scenes (which were many) were the high spots The middle-level drug dealer, who was stoned all the time and, I assume, didn't need to act at all, was so unbelievably bad, he was funny.

Actually, if you like B- noir and have nothing better to do, it's not the worst way to pass a little time. But, a good movie it ain't.

It's just too, too, too...

Too long, too taxing, too mysterious, much too self-conscious. If Charlie Kaufman is a great writer, please give me back Gene Kelly and Cyd Charise. Long quotes from Pauline Kael, of whom I've been a fan since her days on public radio in SF in the early '60s, really didn't add a f+++ing thing.

Charlie can jump his shark elsewhere; I've had enough

A Desecration of the Book
12 July 2020
My title says it all. The book is deservedly famous as a more-than-first-rate murder mystery, police story. The movie has very little to do with the book; the dialogs are frequently just awful, even the acting is bad although maybe that's the fault of the ruined story. I hope Cruz Smith got lots of money for the rights, because anyone who sees this movie without reading the book will simply not understand why anybody thinks he knows how to write. A DISASTER!

Soap Opera
4 January 2020
Unlike most of the other reviewers, I'm not Turkish or anything like that (whatever that means) and have nothing for or against Turkish TV shows. I watched the first episode on a friend's recommendation. For me it was over-acting, slow-moving, a ton of crying and faces agape with one emotion or another. Yes, as several reviewers say, the actors (male and female) are beautiful. The mothers are crying anxiously, ever-worried and prototypical. The music is lush. Every thing and every person is emoting all over the place.

Really, a soap opera. The two murders and a cop as the male protagonist don't change that. If you want to see a Turkish soap opera, watch it; otherwise don't waste your time.

a real stinker

Awful! actors can't act, the plot is obvious, the horror isn't scary, the whole movie is horrible.

The protagonist does, however, have a beautiful body...
