Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
I knew it wouldn't be the best movie, but jc...
I found it all a bit style with no substance, in the bad way Batman Forever and Batman & Robin came across. Add a soundtrack that consists of a playlist from someone who probably played Guitar Hero ten or so years ago, and you'll get the picture. Even Harley Quinn's voice is annoying after a while. Could have been better by far. Not even in the Sucker Punch way. It's forced agenda bs with too many f's and Jeff's for it's own good. I do not know who this film is aimed at, but not this middle aged mild mannered chap who's more Arthur than Martha.
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
Great story telling
Having read the reviews on this site I must admit to being put off initially, but now having begun the fourth series it goes to show you have to try something yourself. This has been a wonderful programme to watch and will miss it sorely when I finish it. The first series is mind bending but becomes more comfortable as time goes on. The story development of each character is mesmerising, such as Helens demise, Johns humanity and how the films have an effect on the main characters. The story does move away from the alternative somewhat but does not in my view in any shape or form take anything away from the enjoyment of this series.
Rocketman (2019)
Made me actually like the guy, even with...
...the Sun reports regarding the rent boys in the early eighties, which tbf would probably be an invasion of privacy nowadays. Timeline goes up to approximately the throat cancer op which made his voice deeper (Nikita-ish) in the early eighties. Although this is only the Elton that Elton wants us to see, there's enough here to understand how he broke into music and how gifted he was, along with hardships and how he dealt with it. If this was an extra hour long it would have gotten another star or two. Think along the lines of 'Dreamgirls' and you're nearly there.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Best that could have been after TLJ
Loved TFA, hated TLJ and 'liked' ROS. Did feel like a few story points could have been fine tuned, namely the family line of Rey and Ben's polarization. Still not sure how Palpatine is the grandfather...I would have preferred the movie to be split into two as there's so much detail but this is the best way to work around the abomination which is the Last Jedi.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Don't believe the hype
It's an OK movie but this doesn't seem to fit into the MCU as I know it. For the first time during the Marvel superhero movies I felt like this was made for the kids, rather than the wider age range audience target. It also seemed to me to play too safe with it's Saturday morning cartoon story and juvenile sense of humor. My family liked it so maybe it's just me but the MCU films for me have apexed at Infinity War. Also not as good as the first one.
The Red Sea Diving Resort (2019)
Something missing...
As with all of the Netflix films I've seen there is no character development, story seems to move too quickly and seems a bit jumpy. This means that I couldn't care less what happens to any of the characters as you don't feel for them. This film is better than Triple Frontier but it still left me wondering how Netflix are getting away with using college grade producers.
Venom (2018)
Disappointing
Tom Hardy is a top actor and chooses interesting roles which explains why he was chosen to star in this film but I cannot understand why he did it, unless it is because it was actually a good story before being butchered in post production, resulting in a Saturday morning cartoon of a movie. There's so many questions left unanswered because of the fast paced storyline I got up to do some ironing.
The Predator (2018)
Netflix doesn't do Predator films, but if it did...
Don't know why the film is getting trashed. It's entertaining, has the right formula and is a good addition to the franchise. The faces are recognizable and although there's no Arnie they are suitable to the story. Olivia Munn is actually relatable to the character in the AvP books so it's a thumbs up from me.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
It worked for Bobby Ewing in Dallas, so...
'Episode IX : The Awakening' will see a close up of a sneering Snoke with the final seconds of TLJ playing out in his eyes...the final moments of a Jedi mind trick on the universe designed to break the spirit of an unassuming Rey, the final blocker to overcome the force.
