The Fall Guy
29 May 2024
The Fall Guy.

A down-and-out stuntman must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend's blockbuster film.

The Fall Guy was an absolute surprise for me, we're talking about a movie that a big part of his momentum was the action , when I'm not a big fan of the genre, two years ago I didn't appreciate much "Bullet Train" by David Leitch himself, so my expectations were low about The Fall Guy and I ended up loving it!

Yes, I really enjoyed it, the action sequences and the comedy especially Ryan Gosling, he was hilarious as always and I remember saying "He is so me" a lot watching this movie, Ryan is one of ly favorites, I love that man, he has thr charm and the silliness that makes me laughing in a normal situation.

In other hand, Emily Blunt was stunning and beautiful, what a couple !

I was really invested in the relationship as I enjoyed their discussions.

Watched it for Guy Ritchie.
26 May 2024
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The British military recruits a small group of highly skilled soldiers to strike against German forces behind enemy lines during World War II.

Directed by Guy Ritchie was enough for me to watch The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, do I regret it?

No.

This movie had a lot of potential, Obviously Guy Ritchie as the main reason, I love what this man offered through the past years, his style is unique when it comes to action movies especially with his comedic touch.

I'm not even an action fan but I usually enjoy his action movies as I did enjoy this one!

Enjoying the action and the atmosphere, especially that the cast was amazing and the chemistry was there, but it just wasn't enough to love this movie, we've seen so many similar movies before, it lacks mystery and it's long for what it's trying to be.

I think The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was a fun ride which I really appreciate, but the story had no heart and it could've been used in a better way knowing that it's a true story .

Lost in Translation
12 May 2024
Lost in Translation A faded movie star and a neglected young woman form an unlikely bond after crossing paths in Tokyo.

Two Lost Souls Met in Tokyo was enough for me to go for it as The Third Lost Soul, it's also directed by Sofia Coppola which is a big plus obviously.

I love Japan, especially Tokyo, I find it captivating particularly back in the 90s in Tokyo Vice, a series by HBO that I watched lately, Tokyo is stunning in this movie too in the early 20's, it's a small detail, but it really makes a difference to me.

Talking about the movie, it was slow-paced for the whole time, you just have to go with the flow and watch those two crazy lost guys, get to know each other, and have fun, It also makes you wonder what if you were in their place, what would you do!

I think I'll never have the answer because having a new fun relationship with someone in a different country, the kind of fun and happiness you've never had in your normal daily life, looks far from happening and if it ever happened, I don't think it would last long.

However, this movie can show you that choosing your partner isn't a simple mission, you may end up unlocking new dimensions, and new things are always more interesting, but you should manage to make it last, find something to love about the life you've already chosen, and you just can't simply get away from, here you'll find peace that can make your own happiness.

Manchester by the sea.
3 May 2024
Manchester by the Sea.

A depressed uncle is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies.

Manchester by the sea has to be one of the most sad and touching movies I've ever seen, I've already watched it for the first time 4 years ago, I found it boring and I barely felt anything watching it back then, but this time it just felt like a different movie! I was fully invested in the story, I cried at least twice and I really loved this film this time.

In addition, I think I'll be watching this one whenever I'm not OK, seeing what Lee Chandler goes through makes you feel better about your situation, it's nothing compared to his.

I've rated this movie a 7/10 back in 2020, here I'm rating it a 9/10 and it's rewatchable, can get a 10 one day and I'll rewatch it very sooner this time, Casey Affleck was unbelievable ! Michelle Williams did great too, but her last appearance in the movie, that small discussion with Lee, I really didn't like it, it didn't feel real.

Monkey Man (2024)

Dev Patel !
30 April 2024
Monkey Man.

An anonymous young man unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systematically victimize the poor and powerless.

Monkey Man is an action movie about a young man seeking vengeance in a fun and bloody sequence directed by the monkey man himself Dev Patel.

This movie had all the ingredients for an action movie to be good and keep you invested the whole time, it had some breathtaking fights that were captured in a genius way, the atmosphere itself is unmatchable, the soundtracks that may seem misplaced were amazing, I really enjoyed it when I'm usually not a big fan of Action movies.

Dev Patel did an astonishing job her in acting and especially directing, this man has a wonderful vision and he'll indeed have a wonderful future in filmmaking .

Les chambres rouges
27 April 2024
Les chambres rouges.

A model becomes obsessed with a high-profile murder trial.

Red rooms is a psychological horror and thriller that gets darker in twisted way, the story is interesting and I love courtdrama films but this one felt unique and different a little with an up-to-date case about the dark web, so it really was a very interesting experience.

This movie excelled to picture the dark story of Kelly-Anne especially the atmosphere, most of the scenes were at night and it really served the movie.

This one shouldn't fly under the radar, it's one of the year's best, unfortunately it was released late in the year and it just didn't get the amount of appreciation it deserves.

Epic.
21 April 2024
Dune: Part Two.

Follows Paul Atreides as he joins forces with Chani and the Fremen in his quest for vengeance against those who destroyed his family.

This sequel builds upon everything we saw in the first part, with an even grander scale, more action, romance, and sci-fi elements. It showcases director Denis Villeneuve's exceptional ability to create large-scale sci-fi movies.

The first part of the film set up the stage for the second part to be even more spectacular. We learned more about the world and its planets, and I am still fascinated by the sandworms and the Ornithopters. The incredible cast and direction make the story even more captivating.

Paul Atreides' journey becomes more fascinating with the prophecy and its consequences, the introduction of new characters, and the multiple action scenes that make "Dune: Part Two" an epic film.

I regret not seeing this movie in theaters because it would have been one of my best experiences. Nonetheless, it still amazes me. The movie has all the ingredients of a great film, seamlessly blended in perfect harmony.

Finally, I must say that "Dune: Part Two" exceeded my expectations. Timothée Chalamet did an outstanding job, but Austin Butler also deserves praise for his fantastic and terrifying performance. I wonder if he is okay after playing such a psychotic character!

This is my first movie of the year (2024), and I can already tell it's going to be a great one.

Dune (2021)

For the second time, I'm impressed !
16 April 2024
Dune: Part One.

A noble family becomes embroiled in a war for control over the galaxy's most valuable asset while its heir becomes troubled by visions of a dark future.

Dune has always been a great experience since I watched it for the first time on Dec 19, 2021.

However, this time it was even greater, knowing a little bit more about the world can help a lot to enjoy the development of the story through the film's minutes and not being worried about the world's details (families, planets...), so I can say that, for me, rewatching the first part is a must to go for the second.

I really can't wait to watch Dune: Part Two, because the first was barely an action movie, nothing much really happens but in a bigger picture this film was perfect for what it's trying to be and to do, I can't think of making Dune differently, different from what Denis Villeneuve did here, he's the best in the industry for me, I didn't know about him back in 2021 so this movie built my first impression about Denis and here I am watching Dune for the second time and loving it even more, appreciating Denis more and more.

I always say that I can't talk enough about the man and I really won't because I won't stop.

Dune: Part One was a beautifully made movie, visually stunning, it's a gate through one of the best fantasy worlds and stories ever created and directed by the best director out there, I thought that the second viewing wouldn't be this great, this impressive.

Fantasy movies are made rarely today, especially on that big scale, those SandWorms, Ornithopters, and everything was perfectly made.

I can't wait for Dune: Part Two.

The Iron Claw (2023)

Brotherhood, wrestling and a lot of tragedy.
10 April 2024
The Iron Claw.

The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s.

That was a true story, wow!

Im surprised, more like shocked of what I've seen in this movie, it can't be real, it's probably the biggest tragedy I've heard about lately and that's enough for anyone who knows about the story or who, is like me, doesn't to watch this great movie.

Besides the tragedy, this movie was very entertaining to watch, we had fun watching the brothers wrestling together, being together and doing everything together as a family, literally doing everything together even...

I almost skipped this movie because of the time it was released, it should've been released earlier in the year, but anytime is a good time for a good movie.

The performances were great especially the father.

What you see vs What you hear .
30 March 2024
The Zone of Interest.

Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden beside the camp.

The Zone of Interest is a visually appealing to watch yet the sound is horrifying and uncomfortable to hear.

It's like they're trying to tell two different stories, one using the visuals and the other with sound only and I think they succeeded in so many terms to make an interesting movie.

I really don't have words to describe the movie, I don't even have an opinion about it, it's something smart indeed and different but it felt too long, nothing much is happening in a weird way .

However, I think it's a solid movie for what's trying to be and to do, the achievement in sound design is very remarkable and deserved the best sound Oscar award.

I'm not sure for the best international movie award though!

American Fiction.
29 March 2024
American Fiction.

A novelist who's fed up with the establishment profiting from Black entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of the hypocrisy and madness he claims to disdain.

American Fiction, One of the most important movies of the year, if not the most !

It explores and exposes how society, especially the US society, is sensitive to some topics, these topics became a trend that the entertainment industries is taking advantage from, it explores it in the most genius way, a very sarcastic one that you simply can't take seriously yet it's so meaningful and serious in the big picture.

The best adapted Screenplay winning movie had a very special writing indeed, we had more than one story that goes simultaneously, the one about the f book, the other about family and both presents a character study of Monk the Novelist, who had enough from the audience that doesn't praise anymore the profound and meaningful stories and consumes more and more fun and silly ones.

The movie excelled also in capturing a novelist's life, a paradoxal one between writing a good book in his standards and writing a bestseller book to the large audience.

It was beautifully written and executed, I also found his personal life story interesting too .

Finally, the performances were magnificent, Jeffery Wright delivered what I found his best performance yet.

Sterling K. Brown did a wonderful job adding a good contrast to the story.

I loved and enjoyed this movie a lot yet some tragedies weren't as touching as they meant to be, because of the main movie atmosphere.

Poor Things (2023)

Poor things.
9 March 2024
Poor Things.

The incredible tale about the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter.

Poor things was a weird of an experience indeed, a bloody sometimes disgusting one, yet it explores so many important aspects of life without any limitations, especially the graphics.

It was a good ride with the rebel Bella Bexter, a girl that discovers the smallest details of life for the first time, enjoys those details as we enjoyed the beautiful frames presented. Esthetically it is definitely one of the best movies of the year, probably the most astonishing one visually which makes it a worth watching movie.

Yorgos Lanthimos is the main character here, what a beautiful of work that was!

The crazy sometimes cute Emma Stone as Bella, she deserves all the love she's getting out of this movie and I'll get it if she gets her second Oscar, but man I want it for Lilly.

I also preferred what Willem Dafoe delivered more than what Mark Ruffalo did but they both were great.

Finally, did this need to have all those sexual scenes, each one of them with its details, I just don't think it was necessary and that's what I didn't appreciate most about Poor things.

Well written and performed courtroom drama.
4 February 2024
Anatomie d'une chute.

A woman is suspected of her husband's murder, and their blind son faces a moral dilemma as the main witness.

Anatomy of a fall is a courtroom drama and It's been quite a while since I've watched something alike, it was thrilling, mysterious and fun to follow up the case of the husband's death and what made it like that is the way they exposed just what we've seen in court and we don't know for a fact what happened exactly.

The direction in this movie was powerful, shooting the two faces of the truth of the fall was genius and I loved it, the meds scene too , so many beautiful details about it.

Finally, I think this is a solid well written courtroom drama, one the best I've ever seen of course, especially that it had Sandra Hüller that carried the movie with a stunning performance delivering the emotions of fear, anger and relief through the screen in the best possible way.

Totally worth it.
3 February 2024
Killers of the Flower Moon.

When oil is discovered in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, the Osage people are murdered one by one - until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery.

I know it's a very long movie, but C'mon it's Martin Scorsese's, we don't get his movies quite a lot lately and the man is 81 years old damn it, still doing it better than anyone out there.

However, I don't think the film needed to be that long Marty.

Killers of the Flower Moon is a movie that takes his time of course it does, it's a 3 and a half hour long movie damn it, I won't complain again .

Alright, yes The movie is long but for a reason, it tried to not just tell a story but to present a whole culture to the audience through the film's minutes which was great especially with the way he did it, with those oil shots at first and the Osage language and all the details about that interesting culture .

Moving now to the main story, which is as interesting as what I've just mentioned, a series of murders of the Osage people created a great mystery that kept me invested, the romantic relationship was beautiful, what a good couple that is, Leonardo and Lilly.

What great performances those were !

I don't think I've seen a better performance than Lilly Gladstone's and I haven't seen a lot of better performances than Leonardo Dicaprio's either.

So yes, here I'm saying that Leo got snubbed in the Oscar nominations, I see him arguably in the top 3 this year alongside Cillian and Paul.

I almost forgot to mention that Deniro was insane in this one, he totally deserves his nomination.

Killers of the Flower Moon is undoubtedly one of this year's best.

Wonka.

With dreams of opening a shop in a city renowned for its chocolate, a young and poor Willy Wonka discovers that the industry is run by a cartel of greedy chocolatiers.

Well, that was fun!

The fantastic story of Willy Wonka following his dreams to open a shop to sell what he considered the world's best chocolate.

It was indeed fun and marvelous adventure with Mr Wonka, especially with the signing and dancing that was really well placed, I really enjoyed the ride a lot and I almost thought to skip the movie at the first place, but it's great that I didn't !

The world itself was marvelous and colorful which created an amazing atmosphere that of course serves the story.

Finally, I think Timothée Chalamet was perfect for this version of Willy Wonka, As the villains did a wonderful job too especially Oliver Colman in her unusual appearance.

Beautiful couple!
1 February 2024
La memoria infinita.

Augusto and Paulina have been together for 25 years. Eight years ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Both fear the day he no longer recognizes her.

Eternal Memory is documentary about a sweet couple living together for 25 years, sharing the sweetest and saddest moments of their lives.

When Augusto was diagnosed with Alzheimer, it changed everything but their relationship and it developed a beautiful manner to manage the situation from Paulina, who's a wonderful patient woman, that could and can handle not being recognized by her husband and still loving him unconditionally, they also have amazing moments together when he's in a good shape and I can say that this couple probably enjoys life more than we actually do!

Talking now about the documentary, I think it was long anyway, it's a 1 hour and 20 minutes long film, but I don't think the story needed that much time to be told, I would have loved it more in short film format.

The Holdovers (2023)

The Holdovers.
30 January 2024
The Holdovers.

A cranky history teacher at a remote prep school is forced to remain on campus over the holidays with a troubled student who has no place to go and a grieving cook.

The Holdovers is a Holiday comedy and drama, a Christmas movie and a story from the early 70's, a very interesting era with all its details that were presented in this movie in the best possible of ways, the filmmaking was very old-fashioned too and glamorous.

It tells a story of just three main characters, a typical one about the relationship of a teacher and one of his student and we all know the rest of this kind of stories, pretty much predictable but still fun and pleasing to see.

Finally, I must say that the experience was a bit disappointing, I thought I would love it more than I actually did, but it's still a solid movie of this year and get all the love it received, I just didn't get into the vibe of it, we didn't Click.

However, Paul Giamatti did a great job as Da'Vine Joy Randolph, the heart of the movie, did.

They delivered two of the best performances of the year and Dominic Sessa was amazing too.

Solid drama.
28 January 2024
Das Lehrerzimmer.

When one of her students is suspected of theft, teacher Carla Nowak decides to get to the bottom of the matter. Caught between her ideals and the school system, the consequences of her actions threaten to break her.

The Teacher's Lounge has to be the first German movie I've ever seen and I can assure you that it was a great experience, it's a film that puts you in the middle of the actions in a school that has numerous issues, in Carla's point of view the film tries to expose what modern schools look like, what teachers and students suffer from... But it never wants to you to get the answer of everything , this style might not be preferred by most of the audience, but ut think it was pretty much well placed.

A one location movie with only one main character that we see everything through her eyes, won't be that good without the intense atmosphere created especially with those creepy sound effects and most especially without the great performance of Leonie Benesch.

Finally, this is one of the best movies of the year indeed, it must not fly under the radar .

Mads and Danish cinema are rare gems.
27 January 2024
Bastarden.

The story of Ludvig Kahlen who pursued his lifelong dream: To make the heath bring him wealth and honor.

The promised land is a biography presenting the story of Ludvig Kahlen, a simple farmer following his dream to become a lord, a beautiful story that reminded me to enjoy the process and the company, sometimes they can be more important than achieving the goal itself.

Watching Bastarden was just a matter of time, I wouldn't miss a Mads Mikkelsen movie, a great Danish movie is secured every year with this man! He's one of my favorite actors and he was magnificent in this movie, he was definitely calmer and wiser than the real Ludvig Kahlen.

The story worth telling for sure, it's simple and dramatically effective, the atmosphere, the soundtracks and everything about it made it emotionally touching, as I need to mention three more names who made this movie one of tgis year's best, Nikolaj Arcel, Amanda Collin and the little girl.

Saltburn (2023)

I almost hated the movie.
26 January 2024
Saltburn.

A student at Oxford University finds himself drawn into the world of a charming and aristocratic classmate, who invites him to his eccentric family's sprawling estate for a summer never to be forgotten.

Saltburn for me was the kind of movies that I be sure if I liked it or not, all I know is that I had a weird experience that I mostly enjoyed and sometimes I was very uncomfortable with it, I almost stopped watching it, yet here I am reviewing it.

The plot was interesting for me, it was exactly what I needed, especially at first, I really admired the atmosphere created because the frames were stunning and I can't talk enough about the visual aspect.

The story got over the top by some of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a movie, literally what was that really!

I'm usually someone who hates getting disgusted by a scene and I usually do skip the film but somehow I didn't because I was curious why that crazy man and I must say it worth it .

By the end of the movie you'll realize how good Saltburn is, thanks to Emerald Fennell at the first place, Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi and Rosamund Pike too.

It just needed to be shorter and less disgusting to be one of this year's best for me.

They should give Barry an Oscar os something otherwise he'll get crazier in his roles .

Two great performances and more!
25 January 2024
Fences.

A working-class African-American father tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life.

Fences is a movie that a friend has suggested to me, I didn't hesitate to watch it when I saw the names Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.

Watching the movie, I realized it's more than just big names there's an actual story going on, complicated and shocking situations through the film's minutes and of course two of the greatest performances I've ever seen!

Fences deals with so many issues, as racism, alcoholism and family problems most especially.

So, it's not a movie with great performances, I think it's a little bit more than that when the performances are by far the best thing about it and that's what I need personally in a drama, some well directed real acting and nobody could do it better than Denzel himself !

This one surprisingly gets into my list of favorite movies of 2016, I wasn't expecting it at all!

Poor Priscilla.
24 January 2024
Priscilla.

When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend.

Well, I was wondering what is it so special about telling the story of Elvis's wife! I've just got my answer.

Sofia Coppola making Priscilla, a biopic of Priscilla Beaulieu, Elvis Presley's wife and the story of how they met and how they loved each other in a young age, especially for Cilla whom life has changed forever since meeting the superstar.

The movie presented what I found it new in Elvis's story, his marriage story that is worth telling through his wife's eyes, the girl who took her chance to be with Elvis and didn't care about anything else, Elvis himself taking control of every detail about her life and so many complicated aspects of their relationships.

I really admired what Sofia Coppola did here, this is definitely a well-directed movie, I loved every frame of it, the glamorous pink and blue, the stunning production design, what a beautifully made movie.

Finally, Jacob Elordi as Elvis was unexpectedly great and the beautiful Cailee Spaeny did amazing.

The height difference is crazy by the way.

The Creator (2023)

The creators of The Creator should've written a better script.
23 January 2024
The Creator.

Against the backdrop of a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence, a former soldier finds the secret weapon, a robot in the form of a young child.

I still remember watching the trailer months ago, when I knew that the movie will be visually stunning and that's very important for a sci-fi film.

When the story looked interesting too, a war between humans and AI robots.

Days after it's release we've heard that it isn't good as it looks and I really considered skipping it, was it the right thing to do ?

I don't think it was, as a sci-fi fan, I think the creator had so much potential to be one of the best movies of the year, yet it was flawless story wise and sometimes acting wise too.

The experience was good anyways, I was fully involved in that world and it's philosophical aspects that the film didn't explore, as it needed more development so that the drama would be more effective, I barely felt something through the emotional scenes.

Finally, I still think it's a good movie that you can simply enjoy without paying so much attention to the details .

When a poisonous snake slithers onto an Englishman's stomach in India, his associate and a doctor race to save him.

Poison is the last short movie that watched from the collection and I can say that it was a beautiful experience to watch the 4 episodes in the same day, I'd love to get more of these Wes style shorts that takes you right into a story with an interesting narration style and more interestingly the beautiful sets and directing.

I can't stop talking about Wes Anderson, so let's talk about Poison, it was unexpectedly thrilling and fun but I don't think it's his best story wise .

The Rat Catcher.

In an English village, a reporter and a mechanic listen to a rat catcher explain his clever plan to outwit his prey.

Watching The Rat Catcher after The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and The Swan was an absolute disappointment!

It was really fun indeed, beautifully made as the others maintaining the same style of directing and storytelling, but I just don't get it, I found the story a bit silly and useless unlike the ones I mentioned before.

I still think it's an OK short movie just because of Wes Anderson at the wheel.

He should make more of these short narratives, I won't get enough.
