Madame Web (2024)
Decent Origin Story
This film is clearly under appreciated since it breaks the typical Marvel/MCU mold. But the fact is, this film is well-executed, cerebral, interesting, and engaging. Many of the low "reviews" this film is getting are just the pathetic little fanboys who are intimidated by strong women, so they're review-bombing the film without even seeing it. But if you go into this film with an open mind, ready to be entertained, you'll enjoy it. This movie is clearly a setup for several future films, so as this cinematic saga continues to progress and evolve, this film will become more appreciated as time passes. This saga will grow.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Better Than Expected (but missing something)
I was optimistic about seeing this film; we watch the previous five films before seeing it and, overall, enjoyed it. You definitely need to see the previous film(s) to follow this one; but I always enjoy callbacks to previous films. However, one thing that did disappoint me was the fact that Regan McNeil (Linda Blair) didn't even show up until the final scene (and had no direct impact on the plot). Perhaps this will be rectified in the (hopefully) 2025 sequel. But overall, it was a decent suspense film and did Justice to the franchise (though they did Chris McNeil dirty). But I'll definitely add it to the collection when it's out on blu-ray.
Jesus Revolution (2023)
A non-preachy movie about Faith
I was pleasantly surprised by this film; it was a Faith-based Christian film that didn't feel like it was trying to get me to drink the Kool-Aid (and I say this as a devout Christian myself). And although the Christian Faith is central to the film's plot, you absolutely do not need to be a Christian to enjoy it. The movie centers more on how we all are imperfect - broken - and it's up to us to believe in Jesus or not. Great quote from the film: "Don't be so arrogant that you think God can't work through your mistakes." That, in a nutshell, is the core meaning of this movie; it's not so much about who Jesus is, but rather, who people are (or can be) with Jesus.
Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist (2023)
Horrendous Disappointment
As a devout Christian and a longtime fan of the Left Behind book franchise, I was exceedingly disappointed in this film. I had high hopes for this, but the quality of this film was just bad, even by B-movie standards. The pace of the film is pedestrian at best, it only bares a passing resemblance to the literary source material, and the whole film is essentially just a clumsy and transparent allegory for Kevin Sorbo's viewpoint on the COVID pandemic. I've enjoyed many of Sorbo's other Christian films, but this one was just awful. I genuinely hope they don't try to make any further Left Behind films.
The Christian Doctrine is more-or-less accurate, but the film's message of salvation is completely lost in the fog of constant political jabs and one-liners that only serve to turn-off anyone who does not share Sorbo's anti-vax COVID conspiracy opinions.
To say I was disappointed in this film would be an understatement. There was so much potential for this film to genuinely reach out and bring people to Christ, but instead, it only serves to solidify the far-right opinions of those who already share the political viewpoints of Kevin Sorbo. But for those who do not share those opinions, this movie will only push nonbelievers away from the Cross by portraying the Christian Faith as nothing but a mouthpiece for the far-right political agenda.
The love of Jesus Christ in this film is horrendously overshadowed by the political petulance of His "followers."
Do not show this film to someone who is on the fence about giving his/her life to Christ - this movie will only push them away.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
UNBELIEVABLE!
I've never seen a movie live up to the hype like this. The build-up to the film was seemingly unreal, and yet, this movie lives up to it and delivers! Tom Holland's acting is Oscar-worthy and the plot twists are mind-boggling! Probably the second best MCU movie behind Endgame.
