Death Wish II (1982)
My take on DEATH WISH 2
Some comment that the villains are cartoon like. Well I have to say if you lived in L.A. at that time you would have see the crazies in the street for yourself...if you had looked. I hand it to Winner (director) for capturing the urban reality as odd and crazy as it is. Afterall our hero walks the street and what would you expect to see in LA at that time? things like that what you see in the movie is what. I find it very watchable and not cartoon....it's how Hollywood was then. So take it to heart and not judge the director. It was crazy out there if not more so but it's a hell of a job getting that on film. So I appreciate DV2 for the street captures of the crazies.
Kansas City Confidential (1952)
Love the way they talk. An example...:
when confronted about his hoodlum friends by his romantic interest (she happening to be a lawyer/daughter of a retired police seargent)gets defensive in that snappy 50's way saying....
"..Papa nails 'em and you free 'em is that it? Look you're a nice girl but in case you're thinking of mothering me forge it. I'm no stray dog and I like my neck without a collar. Now get lost!"
M-wah-ha-ha-ha-ha. Priceless!!!
A MUST FOR LEE VAN CLEEF FANS (I am one)
And highly recommended for Maltese Falcon/Mike Hammer etc. type lovers. This has actually got more of an angle from the criminals' point of view (with lots of complications)easily reminding one of "Resivoir Dogs" - but it's better!
1-Ichi (2003)
I did not like this movie at all
I did not like this movie at all. I feel that the digi cam directing was limited especially in the hands of these uninspired directors. How Dull they were! And the Dai character...what terrible acting. Where is my Japanese tradition of extreme tragedy? This actor had no clue just always revealing his own insecurity as an actor - Bleech! And the Ichii character? Another case of bad casting - Phew! Couldn't stand him. And the fight choreography...Pass! Unrealistic. Obviously the director didn't know squat about camera angles for fight sequences and if he did get it right it was a fluke. The special effects were amateurish and used when obviously they had no other ideas of how to convey an idea. I say go back to directing school fellas. You are missing the boat. But I do have one good thing to say which is why I am here. The Koji Chihara who played the joint twister guy. Now that was a step in the right direction...the guy was so great. You need to take a tip from this actors confidence and use people like that in the future without exception. Really it was a director asleep at the wheel but some of the cast knew what to do when a movie is being made.
