Babylon Berlin (2017)
Starts great, but wears off
Really enjoyed the first season, but gets a bit mediocre after that. Season 2 continues rather nicely after the events of season 1, but the story just sort of loses its steam while things start to feel both over the top and unrealistic. Season 3 though is where it totally lost me. For some reason they introduce a new, incredibly dull plot with virtually no ties to the previous two seasons, all the while trying to fit in a continuation of the previous plot. It all turns into a convoluting mess that just isn't entertaining to watch.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Disappointed
The announcement that they were adapting Robert Jordans epic to the small screen really excited me since I've heard so many great things about the books. Watching the first episode however left me really disappointed. I'm not sure how much they've deviated from the source material, but it's obvious they're desperately trying to force their agenda onto the audience. Acting and writing feels very mediocre and stale, and everything is just very forgettable and uninspiring. Fantasy for me should be about escapism, but here you instead get "woke" themes. Fantasy for me should have a cozy and fantastical atmosphere, but here you instead get over-refinement and unimmersive visuals.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Flawed, but worth watching
A very unique show that explores ideas about human morality in a truly wonderful way. The Korean actors are also excellent. Unfortunately it felt like the story started falling apart toward the ending. Many of the decisions made felt very anti-climactic and I was unsure what they exactly were trying to get across, especially in the last episode. The English speaking actors were also laughably bad.
While this show in general is very well made, these flaws prevent me from giving this anything higher than a 7.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Storytelling at its finest
This is without a doubt the most well crafted movie I've ever seen. I wish I could wipe my memory and experience it the way I did on my first time watching.
The Witcher (2019)
It was okay
Entertaining but really nothing special. I'm a huge fan of the Witcher games which many of you know are among the greatest games of all time. This resulted in me getting a bit disappointed as I set my expectations way too high. The big problem is that I feel it's very mediocre. There's really no truly memorable moments in my opinion, and just a few weeks after watching I'd forgotten most of it. Henry Cavill absolutely nails it as Geralt of Rivia. He fits the role almost perfectly, which is something I unfortunately cannot say for much of the other cast members however. Many of the actors playing the characters feels very wrong for me, but again, this might just be me being very used to the video games. I cannot promise you'll end up satisfied with this if you've played the games or read the books beforehand, but if you like fantasy themed action stories you'll likely enjoy this more than I did.
The Boys (2019)
Really awesome
A really unique and entertaining show. It's well paced and the characters are excellent. What I especially like is that the relationships between the characters feel very realistic, making you that much more invested in them.
My only big complaint is that the second season wasn't on par with the first. A solid 9/10 for the first season, which is lowered to a 7.5/10 for the second season.
