The Informants: Who Killed Nicole? (2019)
One of the worst documentaries I've ever watched
Talk about throwing everything at the wall, including Dodi Fahed, to see if anything sticks. I'll save you the trouble: Nothing did. Poorly thought out, edited, and overall incoherent garbage.
Homegrown: The Counter-Terror Dilemma (2016)
Denial
This documentary was well done. It fairly depicted some of the hysteria around 9/11 and the ultimate resulting bigotry against Muslim Americans. With that being said, there is certainly no doubt in my mind, that many of these "home grown terrorists" were primed from an early age to have contempt for American foreign policy. In order to combat this line of thinking, it's critical to teach children how to spot propaganda coupled with an understanding of the historical events that led to America being the leader of the free world. What struck me most, was the family's denial of what their brother did, and more so when I read up on the case. The documentary left out some critical information. Namely, when Shifa went to Bangladesh, a terrorism task force discovered an encrypted CD the lining of his suitcase; a map of Washington, D. C., that covered all of the areas he and Ahmed had cased; and a scrap of paper with Aabid Hussein Khan's (a known jihadist) mobile phone number in Pakistan. That information is critical in rationalizing the rendition that untimely took place. In all honesty, I found Phillip Mudd, the FBI agent who was instrumental in Sadeqee's arrest, to be incredibly empathetic towards Shifa's family. On the one hand, we do not prosecute people for their thoughts in this country, but in this case, their were some very disturbing acts in furtherance of a conspiracy that made the prosecution necessary.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Huh?
Why on earth would this Splash deconstruction win an Oscar? I didn't like, not understand this movie.
Bully. Coward. Victim: The Story of Roy Cohn (2019)
Meh
The documentary was interesting regarding Roy Cohn- he was a classic sociopath, and had some peculiar idiosyncrasies like not paying any bills. Like ever. The relationship between he and Trump was also fascinating-birds of a feather and all. The documentarian shows her hand, though. She's setting out to illustrate that because Cohn is a bad person, and he and Trump were close, her grandparents, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, were wrongfully convicted. Quod erat demonstrandum!! Uh, nope. No. Nah. Nah uh. Not buying it.
