Meg 2: The Trench (2023)
Braindead intertainment!!!
I haven't enjoyed a movie this much for a long time. It has everything - sharks, an octopus, dinosaurs, crazy lizards, covert deep underwater bases, and even a brotha with a survival kit. Nothing makes sense, everything is over the top, the acting is what you expect, and the nod to the Chinese market is unapologetic. It has thrills and action, the only thing you have to do to enjoy this gem is to turn off your brains and come with the right expectations. It is a perfect candidate for an evening with friends and beers, easy-going entertainment with no virtue signaling, politics, or gender wars, which is a rare thing nowadays.
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Am I drunk?
This movie is so bad it's actually hard to watch. The story is so kitsch. The main character decides to go to Las Vegas and drink himself to death, where he meets a klischee of a prostitute. So romantic. Nothing makes any sense in this story, people don't go to any other romantic place to excite the audience and make a spectacle to drink themselves to death, and they also don't look like slightly pale slowly talking versions of themselves with fresh skin and good teeth, the acting is so poor, seems like no one on the set has never seen an alcoholic or a prostitute in their life. The writer had to go out of his mansion from time to time, it is hard to write about reality while being so detached from it. Everything in this movie is either exaggerated or makes no sense at all. People don't look like that and they don't act that way. A thorough disappointment.
Prey (2022)
A pleasant surprise!
I will be honnest - this thing is not a 7 star movie. It's plot is as thin as a piece of paper. But! It does multiple things right and its so damn refreshing! The action is brutal, the predator is ruthless, and its almost all that matters! Even the fact that the main character is an annoying rebelling girl that outlives experienced male hunters doesnt feel like one more petty feminist effort to establish dominance on the patriarchy for one simple reason - her character has a development arch. It is quite a shallow one, but still - she doesnt rock from the begining, she fails and learns. Of course it could be done much better, but honnestly - it is so rare to see that in the nowaday's movies - i almost thought we will never see that again. Its simple, gory, tense, it takes itself seriously instead of trying to be a half brain comedy, and its entertaining, with absolute minimum plot, but thats totaly fine. Striking contrast to the latest movies of the franchise. Exactly what you want from a predator movie.
Caveat (2020)
pretencious and silly
This movie tries to scare the viewer by creating a situation in which the main character finds himself fighting alone against real and unreal forces on an island with no means to escape. The main problem is that absolutely every bad thing that happens to him is a direct consequence of his unrealistic and unbelievable lack of will to live. He accepts a job from a person that calls himself his friend which he doesn't remember for some reason, discovers the job is located on isolated island and he can't swim, he has to chain himself to do the job - still goes with it. He simply lets a teenage girl to break his fingers and to shot him with a crossbow with 0 attempt of fighting back. Has an access to a phone but decides not to call the police even when the situation became really messed up. And the list goes on and on and on. Even the most stupid people have an instinct of survival. None of this would ever happen in the real life not because ghost don't exist, but because people like these characters don't. None of the motivation of any of them clear or make any sense. This movie doesn't make you scared, it leaves you wondering how isolated from the reality one must be to write such a script. The ending is also very weak and random. Why the mom? What's up with the rabbit toy and what is the problem of the crossbow girl? Why does she do whatever she does? No clue.
Dragged Across Concrete (2018)
Dragged Across 3 Hours of Pure Boredom
I have absolutely no idea how this movie has this high score. Are you kidding me? This is not a "slow burn". Absolutely unnecessary frames full of super weird acting , unrealistic futile conversations that bring so little to the plot that struggles to make you care. The first 40 goddamn minutes of the movie is spent to show us that two cops use "exaggerated" force to stop a drug dealer with his girlfriend, got caught on camera and are suspended. OMG. You could easily wrap the whole thing in 3-4 minutes and get started with the damn movie. Nothing, and i repeat, nothing important happens there besides that. And it is done poor. And unnecessary. The humor is something only Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn could come up with. Suspension only works when there is something worthy in the end. And if the weird bank robbery is our final prize for sitting the whole movie and waiting for something to happen - no, thank you, please no. The movie feels like you are there with those two idiots that hardly look like cops in the car waiting the whole night for the bad guys to show up, but they are never coming. BOOORING.
The Hive (2014)
Surprisingly Good
It is actually about Communism. It is just that victims quantities, speed of the spread and resilience to the treatment are slightly diminished in the movie compared to the "red virus". The real life disease is much more complicated and horrible. But it is true that the only cure is death. And even though there are some people that after the encounter with communism understand that it must be stopped by any means, there are always some patriots that think they can contain it and control it. Exactly like in the movie. Yeah, yeah, collective mind and shet, how great can it be... worth watching!=] and in the end a great soundtrack. don't miss it.
Turbo Kid (2015)
A BLOODY nonsense
A BLOODY nonsense. Mark my words. Dull acting, dull action, no fun. Strives to repeat the success of Kickass maybe? But not even get close. Waste of time. The "Tron" music tries to turn all the absurd that happens on the screen more convincing, to create some tension, but oh my god, it doesn't. And it is hard to think of something that could help that piece. I am not sure why IMDb forces me to make it more then 10 lines to post my comment, because i don't think it is necessary to add anything to what i already have said. But if those are the rules who am i to question it. So here we are, have 10 lines as you asked regardless of the actual meaning. Thank you.
From the Dark (2014)
1 word - scary
I see a lot of horror movies. That one is maybe a low budget, but in my opinion very tense and scary. Camera angles, moving figures on the background, really good acting (considering horror genre and no special effects low budget piece) all this made surprisingly good and tense movie. And i loved those Vurdalaks that you can only see their shape in the night. Usually when they show you the whole monster it looks sucks and ruins the whole movie. And i like the last seconds - that makes you wander what happens next and upgrades the experience from the movie to the next level. Like it. If you are disappointed with this you should check some "Pyramid" or stuff of that kind - full of effects with ridiculous story and idiotic acting. You will understand what i mean.
