Damaged (2024)

Had some potential
21 April 2024
I think the storyline could actually have been made into a decent movie but in the end they managed to produce one of the worse movies I have ever seen. I normally do a good job of managing to avoid really bad movies by I was lured in by the Aish list cast and the synopsis and ended up watching this without looking at IMDB first. I started off wondering why a Scottish policeman carried around a gun but by the end, the direction and the editing had been so poor that in the end I didn't care what happened. I did manage to guess who the baddy was but only because it couldn't really have been anyone else.

Grace: Dead Simple (2021)

Much better than I expected
15 March 2021
For some reason I wasn't expecting very much from this. It was probably because I knew what the main plot device was and thought that it might all be a bit melodramatic. I persevered though, partly because I like John Simm and partly because it was set in my home town. In the end, it was very melodramatic but I really enjoyed this. Brighton & it's better half Hove looked great and the story built out around the main plot device worked well even though you can't help wondering how Michael can be so unlucky. I found the continuity issues annoying as a local and the ending could have been a little better crafted but all in all, two hours well spent.

I Care a Lot (2020)

Just because it wasn't a different movie doesn't make it bad

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie. We start off by being introduced to a horrible person doing to old people the thing of nightmares which you can well believe is happening today in America. We then realise that she has picked on the wrong old lady and the movie takes a turn down a road where you feel good that this horrible person is going to get her comeuppance albeit from a equally nasty person. Then another big turn in the road when we realise that neither of the bad guys care about the old lady any longer and it becomes a battle of wits ending with the two finally teaming up to inflict their scam on even more old people (although you are left wondering why the gangster is so bad at killing people). Finally the narrative arc closes and the horrible person gets her comeuppance from an unlikely source. I loved the journey and it's twists and turns. A lot of the reviews wanted the movie to be something else, which it could have been but wasn't. Maybe that movie needs to be made some day as Guardianship needs to be discussed more than it is.

Locked Down (I) (2021)
7/10
Slightly odd but it worked

What do you get if you mix Marraige Story with Mr and Mrs Smith? Answer, Locked Down. I had watched the preview so I knew the direction the movie took. If I hadn't, I would have thought I was watching Play For Today from the BBC in the 70s. The dialogue is great and the introduction of other characters through Zoom is very clever. Add in the plot twist and you have a good movie.
