National Geographic Explorer: JFK: The Lost Bullet (2011)
No new territory covered here.
"The Lost Bullet was actually shot #1 and hit Secret Service Agent Teague underneath the the underpass!" This is not new - that was known since 1963. Oliver Stone covered that 25 years ago.
A bit slow moving moving and it ads little to the discussion.
Urban Myths: Cary Grant and Timothy Leary (2017)
Rambling and pointless
The concept had real possibilities, but given how badly this was blown I gave it a one star. This cliche riddled short made it painfully obvious very quickly that not only the writers weren't even alive in the 1960's because the missed the whole zeitgeist of the era. A good writer could have captured the feel of the era though regardless of when they were born. And more importantly unlike an acid trip there were no profound emotional revelations about Leary or Grant. The script committed the cardinal sin of writing - it gave us no reason to care about the men and the script was boring.
The acting was good, they sounded like Grant and Leary but given the script and the clueless directing I guess they did they couldn't really do much with it.
Anyhow, there are better shows to tune into and dropout to.
G.B.F. (2013)
Funny, smart, and perfect!
The humor is fast paced, cheeky, full of innuendo, clever and sweet. The language is full of metaphors and brilliant. They talk just like the people I hang around with. The comedy delivery and acting are wonderful. The plot is perfect for a high school story. I loved it. Just watch it and make up your own mind but I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016)
Pretty Good!
I really enjoyed it! Spoiler alert. It was as good as any most war movie out there, however the real after math is far more interesting and would have earned it 10 stars if they'd have played this angle - the story of a 12 year old boy who actually won McVay's exoneration from Congress and the President in the year 2000.
Read this to get an idea of what was left out of the movie.
Killing Bigfoot (2016)
A joke
Do remember the scene from the movie "Jaws," when all the bozos were out on boats trying to kill a shark? That pretty much sums up mentality the whole show.
The show's transparent paranoia is the "researchers" (hunters) decide that the only way to prove Bigfoot's existence is to kill it, because that's the only scientific proof available. And of course they need to kill it to protect everyone because a neighbor's dog ran away and can't be found. (Even though no one or thing in recorded history's been harmed by this mythical creature.)
With assault rifles with night scopes always at the ready, the shows show meanders though the hour with nothing in particular happening accept that any sound of a stick breaking was made by a "bipedal" and every howl in the night is Bigfoot. For a missing link or whatever, Bigfoot is always one step ahead of these ne'er do wells, perhaps because it's a little smarter. (Suggestion: hunting at night with a lit cigarette is probably not a good idea. The scent of the smoke and the light would probably give away the position. So does jabbering away on a walkie talkie. But then, if they didn't have that going on there wouldn't be much of anything going on.)
If you've ever seen "Ghost Hunters" this show's the same thing.
Z Nation (2014)
"Z Nation" is better than "The Walking Dead."
TWD is incredible, but this takes it a step beyond.
It's the same general premise, Zombie apocalypse but "Z Nation" doesn't try to be "The Walking Dead" with it's minor skirmishes each week. These folks are on a mission. There's not a lot of deep character development - definitely not the hand wringing and brooding like on "The Walking Dead." It's got a faster pace, and more incredible daring plots than the "The Walking Dead." Get past some of the overacting and the initial Grade B movie feel to a some of the writing, and within a couple of episodes you'll be binge watching. "Z Nation" knows what it is and it celebrates it. The production values are top flight. At a minimum, "Z Nation" should at least hold you over till "The Walking Dead" crawls back to life.
