Chris Rock: Selective Outrage (2023)
Lacked creativity
It was just too boring. 10 years ago it might have been a good special, but he said nothing new. The jokes were uncreative and dependent on racism to be funny. His take on cancel culture and "selective outrage" is mostly the same as Chapelle's.
If you came for his response to Will Smith, you'll be disapointed. He just seemed like someone who can't move on and literally called him a b*tch a dozen times. He even missed his punchline by confussing the names of Will's movies.
My biggest issue besides the outdated jokes was the way he spoke about women in a really condesending and offensive manner. You could hear the absolute silence in the crowd when he said that women are more powerful than men because nothing stands against a pretty women ("and p*ssy"). And then goes on to say that the best place to live is where women willfully choose to stay at home.
In summary, it was full of dull and outdated jokes that lacked creativity or the least bit of intelligence. A waste of time and $40 million from netflix.
The Sandman: 24/7 (2022)
Great in all but the end
This episode is by far the best directed episode of them all (up until here, at least). The way it keeps building tension is amazing, and, even though it breaks from the narrative style of the series, it feels reasonable and engaging (a style that corresponds to the crazy old man's pov).
Two things I found lacking were the way the situation at the diners unvolve and the fight for the ruby. It feels unneccesary and most unlikely that the absence of lies and hope brings them all to have sex with one another. The other thing that needed more development was the way the sandman regains his power. Why did the old man destroy the ruby? Why would the power return to the sandman if he was defeated in his own reign? Also, the old man shouldn't have been able to end the sandmans illusion so easily (this to create a more interesting fight).
Kagittan Hayatlar (2021)
Almost an amazing movie, but why ruin it?
The film was about to become my favourite movie of the year. The actor from the leading role is fantastic, the script drove you as it wanted, it was kind of original, good execution. In summary, almost a fantastic movie.
Spoilers: But they had to make a dull plot twist at the end. I suppose the intention was to make it more profitable. The ending was so dissapointing I actually got angry because I felt they stole a great movie from me. Why this commercial endings? Yes, I'm writing this review just after finishing the movie, so I may be overexagerating, but I still do think the ending was gratitious (gratuito, no sé cómo se escribe). They ruined the story in 10 minutes. However, let's celebrate what needs to be appraised; besides that ending, the movie is amazing, and the actor from the leading role never stumbles.
