Fails to embody Octavia E Butler's voice.

Unfortunately, the show falls far short of the book. It isn't that it made changes. It's that the voice feels far removed from that of OEB. The themes it tries to explores feel, at times, heavy handed, and other times, not fully disected. It's so sad that the first adaption of OEB's work, and likely her most prolific, should feel so middle of the road.

I don't quite understand why the story was so heavily changed. Little of the dialogue feels taken from the book, and it sadly is not for the better. Tge result is a story that fails to fully grasp what made the book so exceptional even as we approach it's 50th anniversary.

The Conners (2018–2025)

A solid follow up thats more true than the first attempt to revive the show
6 October 2021
I'd give this show 7 stars. I never feel the same excitement I did for the original, but then again, I was a kid. It's near impossible to recreate those feelings. Nevertheless, it comes close with a solid continuation of what came before. This show gets a lot of hate purely from people who hate they removed Rosanne, but the truth is, it's more true to the original than the failed first revival with Rosanne in it. She herself has changed, become disconnected from what it's actually like to be blue collar.

Also, I only say 10 to counter the *huge* number of low ratings from people who haven't even bothered to watch it. You can blame the show all you want, but at the end of the day, Roseanne is an adult who holds sole responsibility for her own actions. We're lucky the team behind the show weren't caught up in her own self destruction.

Pretty good.

Honestly, I thought this was pretty good, probably the best so far. The main characters are insufferable which makes their fate all the more satisfying. And the outlandish, over the top bros are actually pretty representative of real life bros. And despite the absurdity of it all, it had the most realism of all the episodes so far. Sure, the bros are disconnected from reality, but that's bc theyre bros, not bc theyre written as such.
