Granite Harbour (2022)
Look At The Funny Jamaican Cop !
Awful second series where the viewer is encouraged to enjoy the ' foreigner ' , in this case an ex Jamaican army soldier transported to Aberdeen and becomes a member of the police service. There is something about this premise that leaves a nasty and uncomfortable feeling whereby the black character is the figure of fun , ridicule and entertainment.
This is another ' ho - hum ' routine cop / detective series with dull plodding plotting with episodes lacking tension, jeopardy and down right drama.
What highlights the multitude of failings with this second series is the comparison with the superb second series of the excellent' Blue Lights ' . This Granite City is a complete dud in my opinion.
The Cuckoo (2024)
Ho Hum Yet Another Jill HalfP ' Drama ' !
Ok so ho hum with yet another low budget, low quality script , low quality acting and with the 'lead actor' JH not exactly acting but being JH yet again . I guess she can get away with this for a C5 production but I would like to see her given a decent high quality part where she has the opportunity to show her acting skills properly.
Lee Ingleby is a first rate actor and never fails to impress in everything I have seen him in so I suppose this 4 episode series is bread & butter work for him.
While this is in no way a bad production I found it bearable and watchable but nothing more. Not essentially viewing.
London Kills (2019)
How To Waste British Tax Payers Money
Oh dear me , what a pile of rubbish this series is !
Having not engaged in a crime drama ( my favourite genre by the way ) for a while, well probably since the very good, engaging last series of Line Of Duty ( not the best series of LOD in my opinion) I was ready for another crime / cop / murder yarn from the BBC who usually hit the mark. I had not read or seen any trailers so it was straight into the deep end and looked forward to watching all available episodes via iPlayer.
Hugo Speer as the 'guv' is new to me as an on-screen actor but a familiar voice from audio books but seemed to lack any charisma. Numerous meaningful glances between him and the Sharon Small character would not be out of place at my village panto , behind you ! Having watched the first and second episode of this obviously under funded as in lack of busy streets, roads and the same locations as The Bodyguard and L O D , the dialogue is risable with the main ingredient of this type of genre , the vital aspect of jeopardy. With our capital city as background this series must of been commissioned for the USA . They are welcome this rubbish !!
