Dark Minds (2012)
Ego fest
From the early days of FORENSIC FILES and THE NEW DETECTIVES,to the not so true reenactments of shows like BEHIND CASTLE WALLS, I m a big fan of Crime TV.
As I recall the first of these (well done) reenactment crime shows was the popular series DEADLY WOMEN,featuring commentary from former FBI Profiler,CANDICE DeLONG. This is the show that introduced me to crime writer M.WILLIAM PHELPS. As time went by, the fore mentioned commentators began to seem as if they believed themselves true experts in all things criminal. DARK MINDS pushes this ego fest a step further by pitting two crime writers together to state the obvious about matters of public record whether it is relevant or not, much like the B celebrity cast of Smoking Gun's World's Dumbest. PHELPS and KELLY boring opinions at each other, and look at a speaker on the table with disgust, as if to say "i hate that we have to consult this evil serial killer." Well, I could be wrong, but "Raven's" accent sounds a lot like John Kelly's, and that would explain why a serial killer locked in the safety of a maximum security prison feels the need to disguise his voice. It Just plays out like fiction.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Outstanding
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET WOW! It seems to me that when you mix excellent writing with Leonardo DiCaprio,I end up feeling like I've been abducted, entertained within an inch of my sanity, and dropped into my bed to wake up in the morning thinking "did I really just watch that?" Matthew McConauhey's character sets the tone, or so it would seem.I can't remember much about the settings at the beginning of the movie, as McConauhey had my undivided attention from the start. As the plot moved forward, I found myself thinking "wow, and it's just getting started." It never ceases to amaze me when an actor that I've seen in several roles can make me believe his or her character, in spite of their superstar status. Leonardo delivers this consistently. I am old enough to remember "ludes". DiCaprio's rendition of "wasted on ludes" is simply spot on. His focus is evident, and the entire cast seems to fall in around his character as if there was only one way to play it. This is a must see movie. congrats to the cast and crew of this one for a masterful job well done. Bravo.
Thanx Y'all
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2014)
Excellent
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN THE SERIES should be hailed as an example of how to make a series based on a movie. ROBERT RODRIGUEZ stays true to the characters, and true to the fans of the movie. The expansion of the story is believable and fresh. while you maybe familiar with the story, you anticipate the new. Zane Holtz's "Ritchie"is exciting and Wilmer Valderrama's "Carlos" is witty and fresh, as is the rest of this great cast. Robert Patrick is perfect as Mr. Fuller and the sub plot that put's them on the road to Mexico is yet another story that is slowly unfolding in conjunction with the Geckos, the Rangers, and the border bound souls that line the road to ElRey. You can't go to the twister on an empty stomach, so Rodriguez has opened a BIG KAHUNA BURGER along the way. Bravo.
