Seikoku no Dragonar (2014)
Good show, But it's obvious what show it wants to be.
Yeah if you've seen one episode of this show, you probably already know the main comparison it gets. The male lead is a somewhat stubborn headstrong protagonist who allows himself to constantly be abused by his partner (she calls herself master), the pink haired tsundere female lead. Ash (the male lead) was often made fun of for not being as skilled as everyone else and not being able to summon his dragon. When he finally does so he gets a human female, instead of a dragon like everyone else. I think it goes without say that this is noticeably similar to the "Familiar of Zero". If you've seen familiar of zero or any other show like it, you already know the story here. That being said, is the show bad? No, not at all. It'll give you the same feel all the other shows that are like this give. It obviously has its clichés and minor issues. But overall it's well made, just not creative. Also something to note is a series always gets better as it goes on so when/if(and it most likely will) season 2 comes around it will have improved and I am interested to see what happens next. Is it as good as the show it wants to be (familiar of zero)? No. Is it a good show? Yes.
I'll put it this way, if you like shows like shakugan no shana, dragon crisis, or familiar of zero, you'll like this. P.S. My real rating would be a 7.5 out of 10.
Breadwinners (2014)
I thought Fanboy and Chum Chum was as bad as it got.
RANT AHEAD: Let me just start off by saying when it comes to nick, originality is dead and ignorance is bliss. I gave up on nick awhile ago but I saw my little brother watching this and I said well I don't really watch cartoons besides Adventure time and Regular Show but I'll give this a try. I couldn't make it past 5 minutes. Even my brother ended up saying it was terrible and he's still a little kid. This is just a show filled with all the stupid bathroom jokes we wish would go away because they got old QUICK. Nickelodeon is messing up and I don't know how many more of shows they can allow to flop as bad as this one. They only thing keeping them afloat is there sitcoms it seems. As for there cartoons this is just becoming as repetitive as Justin Bieber songs. And it's not a good repetitive. They seem bent on that this formula of 2 brothers/friends going on pointless misadventures with no actual plot in sight is going to work, But it doesn't. Fanboy and Chum Chum, Robot and Monster, Sanjay and Craig, and now breadwinners. They all feel like the same terrible idea. Breadwinners in no different. No real plot. The main characters are both idiots as usual. There is no character development so far and judging by nick's past there will be none. The characters are unlikeable. The animation isn't too great either. It's not johnny test choppy, but it's not great. This show has no redeeming qualities at all. Nick needs to get itself together because they haven't aired a new good show in years now. Funny that they passed on Adventure time because it was pitched to them before Cartoon Network and whether you like AT or not, it's gotten great reviews and is successful. If you ask me, nick needs to take a page out of Cartoon networks book and make a show with a deeper plot that still has a lot of comedic and cartoonish elements. And stop using these washed up fart jokes that aren't funny to anyone anymore with a duo of characters that are complete idiots. My theory, if you like Breadwinners you IQ is equivalent to the breadwinners.
The Verdict: Breadwinners is not much else but 2014's Fanboy and Chum Chum. It's full of unoriginal jokes, poor writing, lackluster animation, and not really anything appealing about it. I would say stay away from this show.
The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange (2012)
A Johnny Test Equivalent.
I call it a Johnny test equivalent because they are equally horrific. Also they have the same main issue. Which is that the main character is an infuriating and bratty main character, that is near impossible to like. When are these people going to learn, if you want to make a show the main character HAS to be likable. If not, no one is going to like the show. Why do I want to watch a show about a character I can't stand? The worst part is no one in this show is likable. It's like they purposely choose a voice cast of the most obnoxious and irritating voice actors possible. Especially the marshmallow. It got to a point that whenever he or she (I honestly couldn't tell) spoke I had to mute the volume. I watched two episodes and I wish I could tell you what the point to them were. The plots are TERRIBLE if you can even call them plots. They were fighting vegetables at a grocery store with tanks and other weapons, but this show is so random I couldn't follow what was happening. It's supposed to be funny but it is exactly what the title says, annoying. The jokes are either corny and not funny or they don't even make any sense. This whole idea is OK for 2 minute long youtube videos but for full length episodes? Hell no. Sitting through those two episodes was absolutely agonizing. Even the animation is appalling. The animation consists of choppy movements, a lot of terrible looking photo shopped settings, and characters designed so hideous they almost make "The Problem Solverz's" characters look appealing. The thing that bothers me the most is that this show gets aired over the multitude of good ideas for shows that get handed to Cartoon network and they pass them over. If you're reading this go Youtube Top 10 failed animated pilots. You will be amazed and confused on how trash like Uncle Grandpa, Johnny Test, and this garbage get aired over much more deserving shows. That being said I think you get the idea. The show is terrible and doesn't have a single redeeming quality. Not one, it's terrible down to the horrible intro theme song.
The Verdict: Terrible characters. Terrible writing. Terrible idea. Terrible plots. Terrible settings. Terrible voice acting. Terrible show.
