Tetris (2023)

It was good

It was good, not great, but not bad. The runtime and acting were spot on, something about the story telling and pacing felt rushed. Like it delivered a massive dump of information very quickly, and all of a sudden the next scene us happening.

I didn't like their choice to transition to 8bit mode each time a different location was used or to illustrate something as simple as a plane trip. It was further overused in a car chase later on and ruined the tension in that scene.

I'm not sure if the story eas over-dramatised, but it definitely fulfilled the drama / thriller category's. It really felt like the world was at stake.

65 (2023)

Not enjoyable

This was a very boring and very dull Sci fi / thriller. The script and acting were lacking, yes, but oh my the plot was horrendous.

1) where were they travelling to and why? Don't know.

2) how long were they in stasis? Don't know.

3) why does a pilot have such great survival skills? Don't know.

4) with all the tech he has after the crash, why does his translator not work (or built into something else)? Don't know.

5) how long could the escape pod have to support them before pick up (no stasis pods)? Don't know.

This film could have been good alright, but it never gave you a breathe. It was constant screaming by thr girl and shooting by the pilot. I could have forgiven this if the action scenes were well thought out but they were all the same. Encounter dinosaur, scream, shoot, run.

The Consultant (2023)

It's either incredibly smart, or incredibly stupid. Either way it was super enjoyable to watch. In retrospective it's potentially an easter egg bonanza trying to figure out exactly whats going on. The only issue is that come the ending of season 1 you really dont know much more. It closes of questions that were raised in previous episodes but the overall is still a mystery. A lot of theories which kept me coming back for more. The story is well told and the characters are well performed, though there are some questionable actions made throughout that had me guessing who would respond like if the situation was IRL.

Shrinking (2023– )

Brilliant in every way

Brilliant in every way. This show had me and my partner laughing right the way through. What surprised us is that it did it with a well throught out, but simple story. The characters were all lovable and had their own qwerks and the humour felt natural and not forced. It really did leave us wanting more so we're both looking forward to season 2!

The only thing I would have liked to see more would be more time in the practice as some of the characters were not fully utilised in each episode.

Harrison Ford stole the show though, his blunt old man routine is an instant winner everytime. But he never overshadowed the other cast.

Mayor of Kingstown (2021– )

Poorly written

Poorly written and lazily acted. There is no story telling in this show, none whatsoever. Each episode just serves to setup a new plot that doesn't progress the story. We know nothing about the characters or their motivations. Why did he / she do / say that? Don't know! Does it matter? Probably not, let's just throw in some swearing and action. The cops and prison system appears to be super brutal, how did it get this way and how do these characters have and maintain control? Don't know!

I got half way through season one before it became unbearable. Nothing happens, each episode seems to just be there to serve itself.

Glass Onion (2022)

Not as clever as it thinks.

Filmed on location so I'm going to give them props for that. Daniel Craig and Edward Norton are great as usual, given the terrible dialogue they were given. The others were, umm, not interesting in the slightest.

So what went wrong? Well the murder mystery wasn't really a mystery, it was pretty easy to solve. The conclusion wasn't identifying the villain, it was just him loosing everything in an explosion. And even that wasn't that spectacular.

It must be just a trend to like this movie because I really can't understand the 7+ stars it's getting.

Netflix didn't ruin this, Rian Johnson did.

Black Adam (2022)

I enjoyed it

I enjoyed it, it was a bit of fun. Sure it could have done a lot better but for the most part I liked the characters.

What I didnt like were the poor special effects and the CONSTANT use of slow mo. Sure it has its uses but really took away from the film.

The antagonist wasn't really revealed until half way through the movie which, in my opinion was a bad decision. The battle at the end was just cliche and super boring.

I don't know who the justice society are and I think it was a poor choice to use them in this as 2 of the 4 members weren't even used.

But even with all this I can still say I liked the movie, it kept me engaged (except for the SLOW MO).

I enjoyed the first three episodes, well written, well structured and well acted.

Everything that followed however was quite the opposite, some were bad, others just boring with no point.

Vesper (2022)

Great story and great concept

Great story and great concept. The first act had me hooked as saw the world. Unfortunately from act 2 onwards it lost me, I got quite bored as we didnt get a deeper understanding of the world from the characters. The plot is overly simply with a lot of padding. I was interested in the world, factions, trading for food, even the machines that destroyed the world 'before' were extremely interesting, but these are not revealed to us outside of the opening text crawl.

Our protagonists are fine I guess, their motivations made sense, but very poorly acted. Leaving us with the final act, the ending of the film was not good. Just like the rest of the story, things just happened, nothing explained.

Bullet Train (2022)

The acting is great. There isn't a whole lot happening so the story isn't complex but it's still enjoyable. What I didn't like was the constant visual flashbacks to short stories. This was so distracting and took away from the main story, I'm nor sure why the writers didn't just write it into the dialogue or have a prequal at the very beginning of the film.

Black Bird (2022)

Excellent, top notch

All brilliant characters and exceptional acting on everyones part. My only gripe is the pacing, the series needed a extra 2, maybe 3 episodes to develop the characters. Not that it was done poorly, just that there were some scenes that weren't explained properly and it left you scratching your head. Leaving you wondering why the character did what they did.

The Old Man (2022– )

Great characters and good story

Loved all the actors in this, they nailed it. The story is also very good. Bridge's character always felt in danger. But this shows great story is also it's downfall. It gets bogged down fat too often with what seems like too many sub plots. There isn't and everything is explained well, I just wish they had have sticked with one plot and gone with the second in second season seeing as there is going to be one anyway. At the end of s01 it just felt like it was a prequel to s02.

Day Shift (2022)

I enjoyed this from start to almost finish. It did run on for a little too long but it's not a chore like a lot of the newins nowadays. The story was simple but managed to answer all of the questions it raised.

Gosh this movie was boring. The story was so dull and boring. Whoever rates this in the positive must be watching a different film. Ethan Hawke is a brilliant actor and this is a waste of his talent.

Big Nicholas cage fan, went into this movie solely on the reviews. Oh boy was I misled, this movie was garbage, waiting and waiting for some comedy or even a hint of a good story. Nothing emerged.

Stranger Things (2016–2025)

Season 4 = BIG letdown

Excellent sci-fi series with a lot of great practical effects and attention to detail. The characters were all great (goodies and badies) and the story was captivating and mysterious.

Season 4 ruined it for me. It was the opposite of to the above (the upside down :P). The episodes were far too long leading to boredom. They introduced new characters which didnt advance the plot and left some already established characters with nothing to do. On top of this did deep character analysis of the existing characters.

The Orville (2017–2022)

Season 3 off to a rough start

First 2 seasons were fun and funny, albeit not always creative. But when did this series nose dive into such serious dramatic matters and dump the light hearted humor? If the second episode of S03 Is as boring as the first I'm out. Such a shame, waited so long.

The Lincoln Lawyer (2022– )

Very average and underwhelming. The characters I learnt to deal with. But the story was all over the place, badly written, and so many sub plots with almost everyone plotting something or some double cross. Just unnecessary, pick a plot and stick with it, if you need to write in separate stories for each of you Characters, then you can't tell a good story. Tell it through dialogue!

The Lost City (2022)

Brad Pitt was hilarious

The writing let this film down. It was a little funny but burnt out too quickly. There was no chemistry between the two characters which made whatever romantic connection they were supposed to have towards the end not believable. Overall it was alright, gave us some thing to watch.

Season one was amazing, season 2 was OK but not really worth a re-watch. Excited to hear of season 3 so will be picking that up on day 1.

This film was horrendous. I know M. Bay isn't the best for writing characters or stories, but the action scenes in this were so hollow and fake. Not sure who advised on the camera work or music either, I think they were trying to create artificial tension, but just induced boredom and nausea.

Same derp as the first. Flerfs continue to bring no supporting evidence or models. A lot of talk again about censorship as if that would magically prove their unfounded claims. This lot really need to stop cherry picking and actually read up on what they are critiquing before embarrassing themselves on video. Oops, too late!

Uncharted (2022)

Poorly cast and poorly writter

As an adventure film this is a big let down, and as a treasure hunt it is even worse. Not sure how people remained engaged, tbh, this film was all over the place. The acting / actors and camera work were good, it just all belonged in a different movie.
