21 Grams (2003)
I couldn't stand it.. that was a bad film
It has been a while since i watched such a dissapointing film since i choose very carefully what to watch. But this particular movie left me so underwhelmed and disappointed i still can't believe all these enthusiastic reviews. It is a drama film that has nothing to say other than "I am a drama film, I am here to make you cry". The storyline is unexplained, pointless and soulless, the characters are mundane and sometimes irritating with a weak or absent evolution and the non linear storytelling adds nothing neither to the atmosphere nor to the plot. So eventually there is nothing to keep you with the film, it is impossible to relate to the protagonists and the directing is certainly not strong enough to save the situation. I strongly advise you not to watch this movie, it's been 5 days and i still can't get over the fact that I wasted 2 hours to finish it.
The Human Stain (2003)
Come back to see this movie AFTER reading the book
Personally i think this is a good movie espercially considering how difficult it is to bring up in screen a novel. I am reading the bad reviews and to a certain point i can undertsand why people didn't like it. But you cannot blame the story by saying "how is it possible..." , because this is it. That's what Philip Roth wanted to write. He wanted to tell the story of an Afro American guy who renounces his identity and decides to live as a Jew man in order to succeed and not be judged and degraded by his race. So, this man after being accused of racism (what an irony!) he loses his job and basically his dignity. He then meets Fonia Pharley and they both fall in love for each other in a way that not all of us can understand, inclouding me. But they do.
I didn't find the casting such terrible as so many reviews presented it. In fact, after reading the book which i loved, i thought it fitted quite well, Anthony Hopkins was good as always, Ed Harris seemed just perfect for the part, Gary Sinise was the Zuckerman i had imagined and Wentworth Miller is my personal weakness. My only complaint is Nicole Kidman who i admit did not convince me. I believe she either didn't get Fonia's temperament or she wasn't able to express it properly. I found her a little more sensitive and approachable than i expected (always considering the book and the vibe of the characters i got from it).
Overall, it's a good movie which must be seen AFTER reading the "human stain" by Philip Roth in order to deeply understand the story, the complex characters, the relations between them and all the meaning lying under the obvious plot.
Sex Education: Episode 8 (2020)
no need for that..
I love this series, i really do.. but i feel this ending was unnecessarily disappointing .. it didn't match for me.. a happy end is not a bad end if you can write it in a beautiful fresh way. And I think this could have been easily the case if it wasn't for this insistence to do something different. additionally the end they chose to give didn't make any sense,, too many coincidences it almost hurt my logic.. i am really sad that i'll have to wait another year to get something better..
Green Book (2018)
So overrated it hurts..
I really can't believe this film won the Oscar for the best picture of the year.. it's almost disappointing.. yes sure it was a decent movie with good acting (Vigo was amazing, the other actor was just ok for me) but.. so many "buts", concerning the clichés, the thematology which was pretty much "old", the predictable plot and the main message about racism and accepting each other etc, which was presented in a rather shallow and simplified way.. it's a no from me
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
A real disappointment..
So.. I don't know what to say, I never believed this film could be such a failure... I'm still trying to understand the reason they even bothered to make it.. I rated it with a 4 just for sentimental reasons because i love the actors and the first mama mia is my favourite musical ever.. (the real rating is below 1). but let's say a few things..
There were too many plot holes.. it was like the directors hadn't seen the first movie. Donna met the 3 guys in a completely different order and I'm pretty sure her mother was dead (but even if i'm wrong, the first film didn't left me with the impression that she was a big cinema, or whatever, star). Except for these, even though the idea of showing us donna's past was really good, the directors and screenplay writers didn't make a good use of it. They barely showed us what had happened back then and there was no character or plot evolution. I was sitting at the cinema chair waiting for something to happen but... the whole film atmosphere was so sad and melancholic.. at first I thought that that was the point but now i'm not sure.. maybe it was sad because of being so bad.. it was a pity because Lily james was amazing! However, actors can't save a whole movie..
I can continue but it will just make me sadder..
I would recommend you not to waste any time for this movie but I know this is impossible for mama mia fans. So go watch it and then come back here so that we can cry all together.
