Hemsöborna (1966)

Iconic Swedish classic

This ever acclaimed and important classic Swedish TV series movie, is indeed definitely a highlight in TV history, and as someone who has seen a vast majority of TV shows from all countries and eras - this indeed stands out as a highlight without a doubt.

The actors all do an incredible job, as one would expect from the Swedish acting elite, very nuanced, emotional and with sharpy dialogue. Expertly written and paced.

Overall, definitely an incredible film, that is highly recommended for any lover of film. Great period piece indeed, and some stellar acting and writing at that. Give it a watch for sure!

A Part of You (2024)

Beautiful, tragic and poignant

This teen-drama is far more than it might appear on the surface. Whilst a more typical and topical teen drama, with a more lighthearted tone, would be good on its own - this film tackles very serious and ever important issues in graceful ways.

The actors all do an incredible job, very career defining, very emotional and accompined by a stellar script, very well written, paced, and sparing no punches indeed. Very emotional, very tragic and heartbreaking.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is great, very beautifully put together indeed.

Overall, definitely a great drama, and one that is highly recommended!

Matthias & Maxime (2019)

Beautiful french masterpiece

France is, indeed, rightfully considered one of the, if not the, best country for filmmaking - having showcased countless auteurs during the years. And this is yet another artistic, nuanced and beautiful portrayal.

The actors all do an incredible job, portraying immense romance, drama and high emotions splendidly, very career defining, and accompined by an incredible script for the ages, of course. Very well written and paced.

One of the better shows of the year

In a year filled (as ever) with incredible shows and filmmaking, this is truly a standout. An incredible, somewhat satirical, drama by some several incredible directors, delving deep into the Vietnam war and with a fun twist on it all.

The actors all do an incredible job, as one would expect from such a legendary cast, very career defining and very splendid overall. Incredible writing, directing and pacing all around in every single episode.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is incredible, very feature worthy, characteristic and beautifully put together.

Overall, definitely an incredible and ever recommended film!

Eve of Destruction (1991)

Take a look around you, it's bound to scare you...

Whilst folk rock icon Barry McGuirre's legendary titular song is not present in this film, it is indeed just as memorable and an expertly done intelligent scifi drama.

The actors all do an incredible job, as one would expect from such a great cast and stellar director, and the script is very well written and paced, very clever and igenius, and indeed rather career defining in every aspect.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is incredible, very much in line with the director's style, and indeed very beautifully put together, accompining the tone of the film.

Incredibly effective drama

This incredible drama, by a great director, and featuring an ever promising cast, is definitely an incredible achievement in arthouse filmmaking, and an immense artistic expression at that.

The actors all do an incredible job, as one would expect, of course, and it is indeed an incredibly poignant and emotional affair. Lots of important questions to ponder in the beautiful script, expertly written and paced indeed.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is splendid, very low scaled and featuring some stellar imagery. Very beautifully put together indeed.

They Call Us Misfits (1968)

Stefan Jarl defines youth culture

In this, Stefan Jarl's incredible and career defining documentary drama, youth, rebellion and loss is defined splendidly.

The first chapter in a trilogy, Jarl expertly showcases these players in their natural element, being an authentic and thourough expression. Very emotional, very well written and paced indeed.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is revolutionary in Swedish filmmaking, very beautifully put together indeed, very feature worthy and authentic.

Overall, definitely one of the all time greats, and part of a complimentary trilogy, where ever film is equally worthwhile to experience. Give it a watch, for sure!

Hit Man (2023)

Linklater has outdone himself

This incredible film, is definitely an immensely interesting mix of genres, and one of the better and most unique films of the year. As one would expect from Linklater.

The actors all do an incredible job, in a variety of roles, ranging from incredible crime thriller, high drama, or just a wacky rom-com. This film indeed has many faces, as does its protagonist. Very career defining and nuanced, expertly written and paced.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is incredible, once again encompassing a vast range, and overall very beautifully put together.

Definitely an incredible and masterful film, that is highly recommended for any lover of film. This film, quite litetally, has it all!

The Last Movie (1971)

Masterful Hooper feature

Dennis Hooper is, indeed, one of the all time greats, and this is without a doubt one of his more artistic and unique expressions - combining the incredible sense of folk music lore and artistic and metaphorical imagery splendidly.

The actors all do an incredible job, in a very scaled back, career defining fashion. Incredible and accompined by a stellar script for the ages. Very beautifully written and paced.

Overall, an incredible film by a master, that is highly recommended for any lover of film!

The Grifters (1990)

Incredible Frears drama

Stephen Frears is, of course, one of the favourites, and this humorous drama thriller is definitely one of his better, and more unique features.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is splendid, very much in line with Frear's style, very beautifully put together, and accompined the various tones of the film.

Incredible drama thriller

As other critics have noted, this is indeed one of, if not perhaps even the, best out of Sam Peckinah's ever impressive body of work in his ever masterful filmography. And a first rate thriller at that!

The actors all do an incredible job, Dustin Hoffman in particular, of course, but the entire cast is just splendid, conveying a great range of high drama, suspense and some humour. Excellent writing, very career defining, and overall a splendid and beautiful affair.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is splendid, very much in line with the director's style, and very fluid and beautifully put together.

Overall, definitely a masterful achievement, and highly recommended for any lover of film!

The Old Man and the Sea (1990 TV Movie)

Stellar adaptation

This incredible drama, adapted from the classic novel, and starring an ever impressive cast, is definitely one film by a great director that is definitely recommended, and should not be dismissed as a mere TV adaptation, which of course could also be great on its own.

The actors all do an incredible job, Anthony Quinn steals the show as ever, and still got it gracefully late in his career. The supporting cast and main cast is overall incredible. Very beautifully written and paced, true to the classic story.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is great, obviously done on a somewhat lower budget, but managed incredibly well and very beautifully put together overall.

Indeed an incredible film that is highly recommended for any lover of film!

Showcasing an immensely impressive and interesting subject, it is indeed very well conveyed through the beautiful writing, in every sense of the word. Very well written and paced, highly emotional and ever nerve inducing.

This incredible drama documentary, showcasing a great history of culture and arts, and other very important subjects besides that, is definitely an artistic gem that I would definitely recommend.

Mark Cousins indeed is a true auteur in the genre, and this is another of his incredible films, showcasing some stellar writing and pacing for sure, very interesting and well put together feature in every sense of the word.

Fun adventure blockbuster

This recent adventure family drama, directed by famous and well appreciated actor John Krasniki, is indeed a good, yet unexpexted, showcase of his abilities as a pretty good director.

For a typical summer blockbuster, this indeed has a pretty poignant and memorable charm to it - a Pixar like form of clever world building, pretty neat special effects works, whilst maintaining the cartoonish origins, and a good mix of lighthearted comedy and some important and dramatic life lessons for all ages.

Overall, a simple enough, yet well intended and fun flick, well directed, well shot, good acting from everyone involved, and an overall fun lighthearted tone.

One I would recommend for sure! Not an incredible film by any means, but a pretty great and well made one.

I Am Not Your Negro (2016)

Topical, important and well made

This incredible film, by a great director, and, of course, featuring an ever important and relevant topic, is definitely one of the best films of the year, indeed.

It is a very well paced, very topical and poignant work of art, showcasing hardships, injustice and the fight for civil rights splendidly. By some stellar voices in the entertainment industry, and overall. Excellent writing and pacing, very important.

Overall, definitely an incredible film that is definitely recommended for everyone, film fan or otherwise. It is just an immensely important and well made piece of art!

All of this accompined by a stellar script for the ages, excellent mix of the typical run-of the mill medieval picture and a detective story. Excellent pacing and writing.

Overall, definitely a masterful achievement, and one that deserves perhaps further recognition!

Overall, of all the TV shows I have seen from most countries and decades, this is certainly a very great one! Highly recommended for any lover of film.

Goodbye Julia (2023)

Riveting African drama

This incredible drama, by one of my personal favourite directors of recent years, is definitely one highly recommended for any lover of film, and an ever suspenseful and cleverly written film with some stellar acting all around.

The actors all do an incredible job, very career defining, emotional and lots of incredible visual storytelling. Very nuanced and emotional, and accompined by an incredible script for the ages, very cleverly written and reminiscent of other equally masterful pieces. Excellently written and paced.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is stellar, very characteristic and beautifully put together indeed. Lots of great imagery and metaphorical.

Overall, definitely an incredible film that is definitely highly recommended for any lover of film! One of the best of the year for sure.

The Untouchables (1959–1963)

Incredible and revolutionary series

I have watched a vast majority of splendid TV shows from all eras, all countries - and The Untouchables is, indeed, often hailed as one of the best and most iconic, and a great testament as of the provice of early TV, and even got a very acclaimed feature adaptation.

The actors all do an incredible job, as one would expect from such great cast, and they all do their best, conveying this typical and crime setting story splendidly, truly capturing the period - very emotional, riveting and exciting. Great writing and pacing all around, incredible characters works.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is great, the budget is not up to feature quality quite obviously, but they make due splendidly and make it very beautifully and worthwhile put together.

Overall, definitely an incredible film, highly recommended, and one of the best gangster stories!
