The Woman in Black (2012)
Jump Scare! The Movie! Starring Daniel Ratcliff
Now, this movie is god , but not that good. To start off, the plot is very confusing if you don't think about it too much. Especially the ending. So there's this woman who lost her son in an accident, and now, every time someone sees her, children commit suicide. Why? I don't know, someone please explain this.
There are also as you guessed from the title a ton of jump scares, and these are sometime minutes apart and more often seconds. Seriously the woman in black just screams or lurks. That's all she does up till the end. And half of these jump scares just come off as annoying rather than scary.
And I believe one of the main selling points of this entire movie was Daniel Ratcliff.
However, the atmosphere was dark and creepy, and there are some excellent effects, and great cinematography. Thankfully the actors acted rather well, including some of the child actors. The ending though does need to be thought about or explained, but once you get it, it's very satisfying.
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013)
The Wizard: MLP Edition.
For those of you who don't know what the Wizard is, it's basically a movie about a kid who's a really good gamer and goes through contests. Near the end at the big climax, the battle between the kid and another good gamer with the Nintendo Power glove. the big reveal of the movie was Super Mario Brothers 3. Yes, the movie was feature length commercial for Nintendo products.
This movie is the ponified version of it.
The movie was generic. The characters apart from the main cast were generic and bland without much depth to them. Most of the songs were forgettable, and the humor was average at best. The ending could have been a lot better if they decided to make it so that instead of what Transpired, Sunset was stalling them and when they realised it was too late, the portal would have closed.
There are also some Easter eggs in the movie, including cameos from the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Vinyl Scratch, Silver Spoon and diamond Tiara. And Trixie who wanted peanut butter crackers. Sound effects include, Pinkie pie transforming, Wilhelm screaming, and a guy in the background doing the gangnam style dance.
This movie could have been good, but it was only just below the quality of the show, which was falling, mid season 3, which is just slightly better than fan fiction. Even worse, this movie was created for the purpose of selling dolls, but the dolls themselves suck. Google them if you have time.
The art style is also unappealing which is a shame because the animation on its own is well done. A way to improve the art style would have been to give the characters real skin tones. It doesn't really matter if they are all Caucasians at all.
But the writer could have done a much better job with the sub-plots. Most of them are just 2 minute fillers which could have just as easily been left out of the movie.
Looking back, at the movie as whole I came to thinking, maybe what I just said was a bit harsh. But then I realized that the plot actually was easy to follow. If you ignored all the plot hole watching the movie alone couldn't fill.
For instance how did Sunset know about Twilight's crown? How when she's been gone for over 2 years which covers pretty much the first 3 seasons. How did she even find the mirror when the entire city it was in was hidden and removed from the map for the past 1000 years?
It doesn't help that half the characters that matter are incompetent. For instance did you know that Sunset allegedly split the group apart by messing with one of the friends of the other. This means that all five friends had problems with one other then just stops socializing with the other 3. The worst of this is at the end of the movie, I'm not spoiling it see it for yourself it's just that stupid
Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony (2012)
Something of this caliber is Oscar worthy
Wow. Just wow. This documentary is created with the intent of showing off the good side of the brony fandom. The way it tries to do so is by gathering bronies all around the world and telling their various sides of the story.
However what they do is tell only the good sides of the bronies (it depends on whether you view the attributes of the fandom mentioned in the film are good) and in doing so boosting their egos but at the same time worsens their own image to non bronies. How? Basically they tell us stuff about how watching this show is daring because they're not the target demographic and they believe this show is the best ever and get this, believe all the previous incarnations are worse than this generation. And once just once cloppers are mentioned and the moment they are mentioned they immediately go onto some thing else.
This movie is just something special, it strokes the fandom's ego but at the same time degrades the brony fan base image. Now THAT is Oscar worthy
