En man som heter Ove (2015)
An all-around lovely film.
Initially I wasn't going to watch either version of this film because I thought it was going to be just a sappy feel-good story. But if I was going to watch a version, then I should watch the original Swedish version. I'm SO glad I did.
Rolf Lassgård was simply brilliant!
The entire cast was wonderful. The film was heartwarming but far from sappy. It was a well-thought out developed story with multi-dimensional characters that give the story depth and balance. The cinematography and art direction were creative and worked well to draw the viewer into the film. The use of flash backs intertwined with the main character's present day life allowed the viewer to see the many sides of Ove and a greater understanding of his personality and his relationship with humanity and life itself.
I'm glad I didn't let my biases keep me from watching this movie. "A Man Called Ove" is an excellent film. A good human story told well and beautiful shot is always worth watching. Bravo!

Second season is better than the first
This is one of those rare occasions when the second season of the show is better than the first season. I am hooked on Nordic Noir and have enjoyed watching Scandinavian series that I've never seen or heard of before. So I am glad that they are now available on so many platforms. I'm becoming familiar with Finnish actors so I was excited to see such an all-star cast in Arctic Circle. Unfortunately, the writing didn't rise to the level of the sublime Finnish cast. The 1st season was all over the place & trying too hard. It simply lost focus. The 2nd season is much better. Still worth a watch, but not as great as other Nordic Noir series out there.
