My Adventures with Superman (2023)
Not my adventures with superman, but maybe yours?
After watching the first few episodes, here is what you need to know:
Teenage Superman, anime style of animation, race swapping.
If any of these things don't appeal to you, don't watch it.
Like Smallville the tv show, but made for kids. It's not awful, but not close to young justice.
As mentioned, there is race swapping in this series.
It's done deliberately, knowing it will upset people.
Creating a new character would avoid that, but these creators did it anyway.
Clearly, my adventures with superman these are not, but maybe there are some out there who never had adventures with superman before and you may enjoy it.
I give it a 6 for the effort that went into making it.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Transformers should be about transformers
I saw some reactions from people coming out of cinema that were positive. So, I was willing to give this franchise another chance, because honestly, how could it be worse then the live action films that came before it.
I watched transformers in the 80's and later Beast wars. I understand making a newer version brings change. No problem with that. The plot is as simple as in many of those cartoons, fair enough.
Like those before it, this film chooses to focus on humans as their main characters. I have no idea why that is. They never were in the cartoon/animated series. These are very basic characters with a generic story, supposed to make us care. It simply did not happen.
Reasons for the humans to do anything of use feel shoehorned in or just makes the film lose credibility.
I did like seeing the maximals and I wonder in a film called ' rise of of the beasts' why this was not really about them (also, no Rattrap?).
Overall, good visuals, very uninspired script. Disappointing. I give it a 6.
Prey (2022)
another film marred by propaganda
It is difficult to say if this is one of the better films in the predator franchise, since it has quite a few stinkers that take a leap with what is believable and this film in it's own way does the same.
This film has a lot to offer visually and the acting is decent, but it has a flaw.
This is another example of recent script that makes a female lead outshine every male counterpart around her to unsympathetic and unbelievable extent. Everyone tries to keep the young woman in her role and away from reaching her true potential (because apparently that is what people want for their children/siblings).
I give this a 5 because it is another film that makes itself unbelievable by forcing an ideology onto it's viewers. If only the filmmakers could avoid making propaganda and stick to making the best entertainment possible, this could have been an 8.
Warrior Nun (2020)
difficult not to frown at
I have not read the comics it is apparently based on, but thought the concept of a 'warrior nun' might be good for some entertainment. The scenery is beautiful, but the numerous inconsistencies in the story, clunky CGI and a very unlovable main character make it difficult not to frown at this.
