Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! (2015)
The Art is Horrible, but the Jokes are Great
This is hardly the worst Scooby Doo series to ever come out. I would be happier if the art style didn't resemble that of Family Guy. However, art style aside, the show has a witty style of humor, actually shows the audience clues to the mystery, and offers up a fair-play whodunit. It's not as dark as the previous series, Mystery Incorporated, which suits me fine. I don't want to sit with my kids and worry that the show's content will be too racy or mature for them. I want to be able to enjoy it with them, as my parents did me for the older Scooby Doo series. Have some of the characterizations changed? Somewhat. However, this has happened all through the history of the show. Daphne started out as the least developed character, with her sole role being the one who got kidnapped and tied up. Then she was made more of an intrepid reporter during the '80s, and then a fashionista for What's New Scooby Doo? Fred has gone from a bland designated leader to a conspiracy nut in A Pup Named Scooby Doo to a trap obsessed nitwit in Mystery Incorporated to a much more competent character here. Some of the characters change with the times. Some details about them remain the same. This show makes me laugh with its willingness to not take itself too seriously, while still offering an entertaining experience for parents to share with their children. If only the art weren't so primitive.
