IMDb Ratings are a scam! Truly Terrible Movie!
3 January 2017
Clearly movie studios have found a way to pay their way to higher IMDb ratings. It is literally the only possible explanation for this turd getting over 2 stars from anybody. The people who claim to love this movie are obviously lying or complete brain-dead morons. I've seen a lot of campy B movies in my day and this one is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It's the rare triple threat of a high profile movie with a ginormous budget which has a terrible script, is filled with terrible actors, which is also terribly directed. Honestly there is NOTHING redeeming about this movie unless you're the type that enjoys laughing at bad movies. If that is your thing then boy have we found the movie for you!!!!!

Ugh. High Reviews? Did I watch the same show?
16 November 2016
BillyBob Thornton was absolutely horrible in this. Do not believe these reviews. Seriously the guy just mailed this performance in. I don't get the praise. I was honestly uncomfortable watching him the entire time because it felt so faked. Clichés abound in this one too. Washed up lawyer with beautiful daughter seeking redemption - CHECK. Overly-beautiful hooker - CHECK. Smart and competent ex-wife who never stops loving him - CHECK. Ugh. Seriously this show was highly rated? They basically re-wrote Californication as a legal drama. I can almost picture the pilot pitch. "Picture a combination of Californication, Lincoln Lawyer, and a dash of Bad Santa". Do not waste 8 hours of your life on this garbage like I did.

How does this have such high ratings?
14 March 2016
I absolutely can not stand either of the two main characters. I watched about 4 episodes and found myself fast-forwarding through long-long-long scenes that went absolutely nowhere. Seriously how is there a 40 minute scene at a restaurant before they have even ordered their meal? Kill ME!

We are led to believe that each has some inner merit that we are supposed to root for but they are both so friggin annoying that I just don't care. The main male lead is the Hollywood cliché Jew (even though he's not even Jewish). He whines non stop and seems incapable of making a decision. ANY DECISION! How does this guy have friends? There is absolutely nothing likable about this guy. I just feel sorry for him.

The female lead is the pretty but self-destructive girl. I've known people several like this. Other than the fact that she is pretty what is there to like? She's just a terrible person. Some terrible people are at least interesting but there is no way that she would be drawn to him. No way!

The Austrailian roommate was charming and fun. I'd like to know more about her but the rest of the characters I am happy to never see again.

Skip this show. There are so many good series on Netflix. Skip this one.

Mood piece that moves at a GLACIAL pace
2 December 2015
I was really excited by the premise of this show. It sounded creative and we don't always see that these days. First the good things: The visuals in this show are spectacular. I love the sets, costuming, and scenery. The entire show is slightly dark with a gray tint which I assume is designed to depict a foreboding period. Overall the acting was solid as well. Now onto the negatives: This show is BOOORRRIIINNNGGGG. I watched 10 hours of TV that could easily have been fit into 3 hours. If I need to see one more extended scene where one of the minor characters stares at a heart necklace for an eternity it will be too soon. I can't even claim to understand the significance of that stupid necklace! After hour 5 I kept watching only because I assumed that SOMETHING had to happen. Spoiler alert: It didn't. Unless this show gets a new writing team there is absolutely no way I will watch season 2. Life's too short.

It grew on me.
2 December 2015
The pilot was good but not great. It was a light-hearted reminder of the 80s coming of age movie comedies that I grew up with. I wasn't really compelled to watch the next episode but ultimately I did anyways just out of curiosity. As the episodes rolled by I enjoyed them more and more. Yes some of the characters are formulaic but the entire show works. I started actually caring what happens to them in future years. After finishing the 10th episode I actually am anxiously awaiting next season. There are quite a few ways the show could go and I can't wait to find out. Yes I have seen better shows but for this genre I think it was well above average and certainly worth watching.

George Lucas should sue
10 April 2013
It is absolutely amazing how somebody could rip off so many sci-fi movies while spending so much money to produce this. The director has clearly not had a truly creative thought in years. This movie is simply a mash-up of star wars scenes while having the feel and cheesiness of Flash Gordon. I just wish it was as fun as Flash Gordon was. At least that movie owned its tongue-in-cheek approach.

Also, the people who gave this a 10 are either brain dead or paid to post those reviews. Nobody with a IQ over 72 would not see all of the giant flaws in this movie. Overall, I have seen worse movies and there were some things to like but it was a big disappointment. My suggestion is to not ever pay to see this movie. If it was on a free-HBO weekend then there are worse ways to kill 2 hours.
