Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
A Fun Comic Book Movie. Nothing More, Nothing Less.
I really don't understand the hate for this film. Is it going to be an Academy Award winner? Of course not. Is it a fun comic book story brought to life on the big screen? Yes, it certainly is. All the components are there. It's got some laughs and some heart. It's got a good, strong villain. There are strange life forms with cool tech and weaponry. And, there is plenty of over-the-top action, punches, and explosions. No, it isn't a complex, heady film, with a deep, meaningful message or plot. But, it doesn't need to be. It's exactly what it DOES need to be. A fun-to-watch bit of entertaining fantasy and escapism. What else could we ask for?
La casa del fin de los tiempos (2013)
Good Pace. Tension and Suspense Throughout. VERY Satisfying Climax.
Let me start out by saying that I don't generally like to watch films in languages other than my own native English. I often find reading subtitles a bit tedious, and feel like it takes away from my film experience, when I'm having to split my attention between the action and the text on the screen. I understand this has undoubtedly caused me to miss out on quite a few really great movies from other countries. I'm glad it did not deter me from this one. I was pulled in right from the beginning, and was so engaged that I forgot all about my silly little hang-up.
WOW. What an EXCELLENT film. A woman is convicted of killing her husband and son in the early 80's, and after 30 years in prison returns to the home where the horrible events took place. With the help of a kind and curious priest, she begins to unravel the mystery of the house, and just what happened there on that fateful day so many years ago. As each piece of the puzzle is subtly revealed, you find yourself confused and somewhat satisfied at the same time. Because, even though you don't know exactly where it all is leading, you can see that it's coming together in just the right order, and drawing you toward a very worthwhile conclusion. As the last few clues fall into place, what has really gone on in that house finally hits you. And, you can't help but be in awe of this incredibly well written story that has actually been completely laid out right in front of you from the beginning.
I can't say enough good things about this film. Good acting. Good character development. Suspense. Twists and turns. Great filming and music that really come together to set a tense, creepy mood throughout. This is a definite must-see.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
The Greatest Horror Comedy I Have Ever Seen!
I would give this film a 20 out of 20, if that stars went that high. It's hysterical, clever, original, and at moments even touching. Everything about this movie is spot on: the story premise, the characters, the dialogue, the pacing, the effects. I could watch this movie a hundred times, and never find a single flaw.
Best friends Tucker and Dale are a couple of lovable and kind-hearted backwoods hillbillies, working on fixing up an old creepy, cabin and making it they're vacation home. Their plans are unfortunately interrupted by a bunch of preppy, college kids who have seen too many horror movies. As one of their group is hurt, and the two rednecks run to her rescue, her friends mistakenly think that she's been abducted. Hilarity, mayhem, and dismemberment ensue, as the college kids set out to "save" the girl from her "captors."
If you are looking for an original film with great characters, a bit of well executed gore, and laugh-out-loud moments, this is definitely the movie for you. I can't say enough good things about it. Everyone I have recommended it to has had the same reaction I did. It's one you will want to watch more than once, and will definitely be telling your friends about.
**Just a little tip. DO NOT watch the trailer first. Though it won't by any means ruin the film for you, it does give away a few good surprise moments**
