She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
This is OK...honestly.
Firstly, I think Marvel have lost their way. I can't blame it all on to Disney but they have to take a lot of responsibility for the lame stuff we're being offered. The latest Dr Strange and Thor adventures were, to be honest, embarrassing. It's so frustrating to see Marvel quite quickly slide into the OK category. Have they just given up? Are Disney just cashing in before a sudden finish?
Anyhow, lets focus on She-Hulk. This for me is OK, not brilliant, but I can't stop enjoying her. I know a lot of negativity surrounds the talking to and looking at the camera. That really doesn't bother me. I think she really does it well. It's supposed to be fun and it is. So, it ticks those boxes. Now, storylines. Not that good, but again, they are supposed to be light and not to heavy. You ate getting a good introduction to her a characters around her. I feel this could go somewhere. Bit like Jessica Jones. In conclusion She-Hulk hasn't stopped Marvel from sinking, but hasn't put another hole in the hull. Keep bailing guys. This is OK. Not brilliant or ground breaking, but OK.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
What was this supposed to be?
Pointless rubbish for the first 40 minutes. Then a glimmer of hope. Then yawn fest.
Why have they decided to make Thor an idiot? And that's being polite. The jokes where lame, Korg character is the most annoying character since Jar jar Binks. Thor mumbles about being an absolute arse for ages before any story develops. Christian Bale does a brilliant job of giving us a worthy villain with a good back story in the first 10 minutes and then lame jokes, side ways glances, Goats screaming and that's about it. All the Guardians need to take a good shower to hopefully was Thor off them. Otherwise they are going to be pulled down with this tired franchise, which would be a shame. What has happened to Marvel? If it's Disney then someone needs to act now otherwise we are all doomed.
Prey (2022)
Yes Yes Yes. At last fans and The Predator has something to roar about.
Firstly, I have enjoyed all the Predator films (not the vs alien stuff) but have to admit that level of enjoyment was getting a bit strained by the last two outings. Annoyingly people were righting off anything with Predator in the title, the interest in Prey then became "Oh, it's Predator again, shame, that looked good."
Well people, I am so pleased to say, this is a good film. 1hr 40 min is the perfect length. You have a story, you have action and you get to see the Predator do his stuff on his jolly to Earth.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Started great, then not so, then OK, last 3 seasons DULL.
The last season's drawn out run really spells out the sad end to what was a great program. The eleven seasons have been, to be honest, hard work. I was hoping season 11 was going to be a thrill a minute but instead we are getting the same plodding storyline at a snails pace. To make maters worse the season is split into 3 blocks of 8, with months in-between the blocks. I can't remember what happen in block two, what's more is I now don't care.
Halo (2022)
Worth a watch? Yes. Is it perfect? No.
Come on people. There's plenty to like and enjoy here. Sometimes is just fun to watch stuff. Yes, I said the "F" word. This doesn't scramble your brain or make you have to watch the last 20 mins of the previous episode to work out what's going on. It just lays it out for you. I'm very much looking forward to the next season.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Style over substance unfortunately
Bit of a disappointment I'm sorry to say. One of those films that must of been fun to make but not so much to watch. Coming in at just under two hours the story dragged. It's not a horror, it's more like a Tales of the unexpected story. If it had been an hour long it would of been interesting.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Ouch...2 hours of hurt
Pointless and painful. This was just a mess. I don't know if there were issues in editing but the result just wasn't entertaining. A real disappointment.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Hard to rate and understand this one....
Was this a throw back to 80's action films, but with a gender twist?
Instead of the macho male hero we have a female lead? The music definitely tried to deliver that, the story and dialog as well, but, It fails to give you the whole package.
It has a crazy, action, stressful go, which has to be admired. It does make me wonder, that if Mr Cage was in the lead roll, people would be viewing this differently. So, I suppose it has done it's job.
A round up, fun, confusing, a little silly, really silly and nostalgic. I don't think I can be any clearer than that.
Reckoning (2019)
Finished episode 10...What? No conclusion!! !
Netflix have this listed as a limited series, which means no more seasons. If that's true I want my 8 hours of my life back please. It was slow but I thought there would at least be an ending. Very disappointing.
Black Widow (2021)
Could of and should of been so much better.
It took me three attempts over three nights to get through this. Story...dull and predictable. Acting...Oh dear, not good, especially the accents ( Pugh's especially) CGI...over the top and not that great.
The so called humour in this film just felt miss placed and clumsy, almost an after thought.
Still better than Wonder Woman 84 though...just!!!!
Black Summer (2019)
Give this a go...it's good stuff
I love this. Tense, heart ponding stuff. You really don't know who is going to come through each episode. Like most Zombie based stories it's really the other survivors you have to watch out for, but having the Zombies racing about does up the action excitement to almost Max.
This is definitely worth a look.
Nobody (2021)
Loved it. Ticks all the boxes.
If this is your kind of movie then sit back and enjoy the ride.
Is it violent?
Yes.
Do they deserve the violence?
Yes. Very much so.
John Wick better watch out!!
Army of the Dead (2021)
I thought this was alright. I don't get the hate!!! A fair 7
Firstly, this was never going to be "Ocean's Zombie", thank God. The heist was never meant to be centre stage. The characters, again, didn't really mater. This was all about a fun, violent Zombie romp. And it delivered that brilliantly. I enjoy Zombie films like Train to Busan and I believe Zack must do to..
The negatives are clear. Acting, dialog, were terrible. You just couldn't help being annoyed by the story. A shame that both were bad, you can forgive some films due to budget, but no excuses here.
I think that Mr Snyder's name brought much expectation for this project. Maybe people should of just watched and enjoyed the Zombie ride.
Upload (2020)
Definitely worth a look.
This could quite easily suck. Ten minutes in, I wasn't sure if it was for me, but I'm so glad I stayed with it.
Its well written, the two leads are likable and the chemistry is there. The supporting rolls are strong and again well played.
This is not a romcom TV show. Twist and turns in the main plot keep you interested and it moves at a good pace. Looking forward to season two.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Dark, Mean and well moody...Brilliant!!
Just watch it. I did it over four 1hr episodes. Like a mini series. That way you can take in all that is being offered to you, and there's a lot to absorb.
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)
A strong seven
Original? No. Enjoyable? Yes. Acting from the two main characters? Very good.
This is a fun, well thought out film. I enjoyed where it took me, when I felt it was going down a well trodden path it surprised me by changing slightly. A well spent evening.
WandaVision (2021)
Wow... Double WOW....this is class in a glass.
First three episodes drew you in. You are watching American TV nostalgia. It's entertaining, it plods along, but, just as you are thinking, "what the heck am I watching" you are made aware that something is not right in this weird "safe" reality.
Then comes episode four. I can't say anymore. Fantastic. Marvel, Disney, I stand and applaud you.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Thank goodness for How to... in lockdown
Yes, there are more intense court room dramas out there. This takes you on a completely different ride. Unbelievable sometimes? Yes. Entertaining? All the time. Well written, well acted. Well done.
Dragged Across Concrete (2018)
A solid S. Craig Zahler film
Yes, this film is long. Easily 30 minutes to long. But, what you get is the events of a day and the night. That's all that matters here. Very little back story of the characters, just enough to make you interested.. It's given to you in snippets of conversation or in a look or even pauses in conversations. Very clever.
Like in all Zahier films the violence is very graphic and shocking. So be warned.
I'm glad these films are made. It must be fantastic to be an actor and land a roll in films like these. Definitely a step away from the safe, one formula Hollywood beige.
Greenland (2020)
Run, run to the hills or fly to Greenland
This is a must for you disaster freaks out there. The tension is kept at a constant mark 6 when you know what's coming their way, it's then turned up to a nice mark 9 at certain key moments.
Butler is good in this. He doesn't over play it, he keeps it simple and this really helped me enjoy it.
Morena Baccarin, again, is very good. The problem with these films is that the female is usually there to just be saved, scream and cry a lot. Thankfully this wasn't the case, well she did cry a lot, she had a fair reason to be honest. The writers gave her a strong roll to actually get her teeth into which definitely gave this project a good balance.
To sum up. I didn't think about Covid for the whole film, nearly 120 minutes. It definitely Mr Butler's best work in ages. Ms Baccarin should of been Wonder Woman!!
Seuwiteuhom (2020)
Crash Bang and loads of Wallop
It's Korean. So you kind of know what your going to be getting when it comes to the main characters. You always have the "comedy rolls" and there is no exception here. I can find these characters annoying, but in Sweet Home, there is definitely enough crazy monster stuff going on to take your mind of them.
This is not perfect but very enjoyable. The story does start to fade to the end, maybe two episode to long.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Disappointing, real shame.
This poor film was confused.. It followed a Space crew coming home to Earth, and a man trying to get from A to B on Earth to contact the for mentioned crew. Now that all sounds cool. Mr Clooney was at the helm and was in it, to add even greater weight. Acting and the space effects we all good.
Even though both parts of the film were done well it still felt flat and stale. It was to long. Everything that happened felt familiar. Nothing surprised you. It wasn't done badly but you felt it was just ticking the boxes.
To sum up, if this film was a colour, it would be Beige.
Escape Room (2019)
It's a strong seven from me.
I must admit, I wasn't expecting much, just the usual strangers getting slowly finished off in mind bending ways, they can't understand why or how this is happening to them..blah blah.. BUT, it was good stuff. The cast were good, story was steady and moved at just the right pace. Definitely put it on your Netflix list.
Black Narcissus (2020)
Pointless re-make...again
Yawn fest I'm sorry to say. Setting gets 10/10 but three 1 hour sittings was just to much. I feel sorry for anyone that was hoping to binge watch the whole 180 minutes.
Lots of short scenes showing the Sisters, well a few of them, questioning their roll in God's will that just didn't connect well. I just couldn't get into the story.
To disjointed, to long.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
What!! OH MY, No way.....what have I just watched?
I'm really sorry to say this, but, WW1984 is the worst Super Hero film I've seen.
I just couldn't work out what audience this was aimed at. Wonder Women kind of worked, yes there were similarities to Captain America, but there was enough going on to keep you interested in the main characters. WW1984 doesn't manage that on any level.
Gal Gadot is wooden, looks great as Wonder Woman but is so dull. Bringing Chris Pine back? Huge mistake. It was so obvious how this was all going to turnout, but you had to endure over 150 minutes of moralistic peaching.
The action, when there was action, spends so much effort showing us that even though someone gets thrown 20ft in the air they land groaning, so they are OK and WW's not an Evil Hero.
DC's problem has always been in their Movies that the Villains are way more interesting than their Heros. WW1984 is proof that this continues to be the case.
