Willow (2022)
they're destroying one of my favorite movies
Bad writing, bad acting, bad scores, bad everything. Willow joins the mass production of horrible, cheap shows. Why spend all that money and then don't produce quality? How come there doesn't seem to be any inspiration left in Hollywood? My disappointment is beyond words. It almost seems the people involved don't know anything about the original movie and it's magic. Starting off with a simple storyline, adding classic heroes and vilains and adventures in various settings. The score was impeccable, so was the cinematography. None of it can be found in this show. They would've better left it alone and saved the time and money to produce something good.
The Devil's Doorway (2018)
Quite a surprise
I'm usually not a big fan of found footage movies but this is one I actually liked. The storyline is simple and 'logic'. But what is the most astonishing thing about this movie is that it proves it's possible to draw relatable and plausible characters within it's short playtime. This is also thanks to outstanding acting by the three main characters. It's become very rare- especially in horror- to have the combination of writing, directing, acting and cinematography in such a perfect manner. I must say the scene where the mother superior starts to sing was the creepiest thing I've seen in a long time. Congratulations!
Martyrs Lane (2021)
a heartwrenching story about dealing with grief
Labelling this movie a horror flick couldn't be further from the truth. I understand the low rating as a misunderstanding because people think it's the French movie 'Martyrs'. It is actually a quiet movie about dealing with grief of losing a child from the perspective of the parents, the older sister and the young daughter who doesn't know anything about the other sibling, let alone her death. I liked it a lot and it left me quite emotional. Excellent cinematography underlined by a tender soundtrack, good acting with outstanding acting from Leah. If you're looking for gore- this one ain't for you ;-)
A House on the Bayou (2021)
I liked it
The storyline and acting are actually really good. I loved the house as well as the cinematography. Maybe next time invest in a decent composer to write a score. The cheap synthesizer put me off in a lot o scenes. There's one little detail I would've changed.... have the officer give her the cat in the end :)
Malignant (2021)
change of habits
Usually I finish a movie before reading imdb reviews and I've never written one myself. So this is a first. I'm twenty minutes in and I had to check the comments here to see if I'm just dumb or if James Wan lost any ability to tell a story- let alone the excruciatingly bad acting, pointless soundtrack and artsy fartsy cinematography. Thank you all for saving my initially good mood and making it easy to stop watching now :)
Lark Rise to Candleford (2008)
delightful
This show makes me happy! Apart from the great acting, lovely sceneries and endearing characters it's the perfect show to watch after a busy day at work. There is a simple wisdom in the words spoken and the development of the various story lines. I find myself smiling a lot while watching and the humor, above all the slapstick like scenes, make me laugh out loud. My favorite character is Minnie. As many times as she drops a brick, her honesty and unawareness of social conventions let her say what others may never dare. Of course her being accepted the way she is, in fact everyone lets the others be the way they are, is highly soothing. I see a lot of myself in Miss Lane. I must admit i have as many 'one weaknesses' as she does and that's fine. If you should decide to watch the show I hope you'll have the same feelings of happiness.
