Madame (I) (2017)
6/10
I never write bad reviews, but I feel I have to comment on this one...
9 December 2017
Well I am annoyed. Just watched the movie, and what was a pretty good film had a really crappy ending. Toni is a real hypocrite and total bitch in the movie, you really want her utter snobbery to be her undoing. Problem with trying to make a movie like French Cinema, is that it is unsatisfying for an American audience. The ending is plain bad. I gave the movie a 6/10, that seems fair to me, since it goes nowhere and the ending is just not good. Really annoys me to see a good movie end so badly. Worth watching for Harvey Keitel, but I totally hated the character Toni Collete is playing, she is without mercy and an utter snob. Ironic that she claims to be a Democrat in the movie. The Director should have delivered a better ending. Can't believe that's it.

The show has taken a serious nose dive!
25 March 2008
After the writers strike, this show has just not shown any real consistence of quality. The worst episode to date was The Loobenfeld Decay.

The show now lasts about 20 minutes or less, and gives the feeling of being badly produced. The sets are the same as ever, the apartment, the landing... This is just not good enough for an 8 pm slot. I doubt it will make it to a third season.

The character of Penny has changed, and oddly enough looks less interesting. Wolowitz and Koothrapalli in episode 11 play virtually no part at all in the show. A quite miss-able episode.

I liked this movie!
2 September 2005
It just goes to show that sometimes you shouldn't read other people's reviews before going to see a film you like the look of. I read some reviews yesterday that weren't that great, so went in expecting something less than excellent. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the movie and cannot agree with the critics whom I had read. I felt the pace was just right and it all adds to the build up of the last few dramatic minutes. Gena Rowlands is very sinister in the role of Violet. John Hurt (I'm a lifelong fan of the man, his 1970's portrayal of Caligula still makes me marvel) so such a shame to see an actor of his class just lie there and gurgle, but however a pleasure as always to see him. I wonder if there were any cut scenes involving John? Good plot and just when you think you've guessed what's going on and see the twist coming, surprise! The movie all makes sense later when you think back on all the past events.

Impossible to ignore the many similarities to THE SHINING! (Slight spoiler)
2 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
De Niro is brilliant as usual. Hard to fault him. However it is slightly annoying that whomever wrote this screenplay owes a big chunk of homage to King. Instead of the Overlook Hotel we have a house on the lake in a very deserted part of the country. Instead of the black chef being contacted by the boy using the shining who then comes, we have the little girl phoning the Psychiatrist who comes from a distance but seems to arrive (from far away suggesting a continuity error) in a very short time (judging by the time passing in the movie). Other major similarities are when David looks at the journals he's been keeping all this time (he finds that they have never actually left the packing crates) and finds them empty - I wouldn't have been surprised if it had read "All work and no play makes David..." The final chase scene is once again similar to The Shining when he reaches the room door with he knife in his hand. Finally the many flashbacks he has to a dance hall which looks not like 2004 New Year but more like something from the 1920's is more than just a bit similar to what is going on in the Overlook's Gold room (which oddly enough is also celebrating New Year!) It's The Shining with the ghosts removed. Great movie, but really why so blatantly copied from another movie?

Plot? What Plot? Who did they work for anyway?
20 June 2005
I really didn't like this movie at all. I found it absurd and missing vital ingredients like for instance a plot. So which opposing bodies are Mr and Mrs Smith actually meant to be working for? They can't both be on the side of good. Why is it that no one in the movie seems to get killed but there are bullets flying everywhere from every direction and why when they are vastly outnumbered.... etc.. etc.. This is True Lies meets Prizzi's Honor with a smidgen of James Bond, but all done very very badly. Relies heavily on special effects to make up for huge gaps in the plot. Very shallow characterization, ludicrous situations, unsatisfactory ending. This movie will not win any Oscars!
