Mondo Daytona (1968)
Psychedelic Spring Break!
Spring break in 1968! Drunken kids fool around in Daytona Beach and a few bands become momentarily coherent enough to lip-sync to their tunes. Very odd, low-tech psych. touches. Strange indeed. With clips from Grand Funk, the Tams, Billy Joe Royal and the Swinging Medallions. A disjointed, pseudo- documentary, low budget film, oddly combining partying middle class white kids with freak - out hippie hard rock. A good film for collectors of hard to find rock and roll performance clips but not recommended as a "feature film". Spring break in 1968! Davie Allan & the Arrows soundtrack!
The rare and wonderful surf instrumental soundtrack by Davie Allan and the Arrows is enough to make this "comming of age" short an important piece of Southern California history. This is a must see for Sixties music video fans and collectors of obscure surf music.
