Rick and Morty: Big Trouble in Little Sanchez (2015)
Alien Resurrection reference
Husband and I loved it with all the references to Alien Resurrection.
Elizabethtown (2005)
An excellent film that goes straight to the heart
As a Louisville, Kentucky native I was so excited to hear that a movie was being filmed in my home state! I was even more excited to hear that Orlando Bloom was starring & after watching the finished product directed by Cameron Crowe I was still totally surprised at finding it such an intimate & beautiful piece of work.
Drew Baylor (Orlando Bloom) has invested eight years of his life to developing a shoe...one that seems to be the wave of the future & instead turns into an utter fiasco. Wanting to end his life after having "wasted" eight years, he's interrupted with bad news: his father's dead. He's such a stand-up guy (even so much that while he's ready to give up on life he feels the need to be responsible) he travels to Elizabethtown, KY to bring his father's body back to Oregon.
On his way he meets a southern girl (Kirsten Dunst) who first appears obnoxiously extroverted but who through-out the film helps change his view on life: while he may have a few bad years under his belt we're all just people & finds that life is most definitely worth living after all.
Hilariously funny while stunningly poignant, this film is absolutely beautiful from beginning to end. (Although there are a few misconceptions ingrained throughout about Kentucky; like hinting that all the Kentucky shows on TV are black & white gangster movies & that Kentuckians heartily agree that California is a bad place to be.) However, it does capture the small-town comfort found here & in hardly any other place, & also does the state justice with the beautiful landscapes filmed.
Orlando Bloom stands up as the "main man" is this romantic comedy & is finally able to show to the world his subtle yet deep emotional range, making viewers laugh at one point, feel helplessly apathetic to his character later on, & able to elicit tears from viewers at another point.
This film is something wonderful & I can't wait to show it to everyone I know & hope that everyone in the world does the same. Go ahead...see how delicious a taste of Kentucky can be.
High Strung (1992)
Easily one of the funniest movies I've seen.
Oedekerk is a comic genius in this movie which will have movie goers everywhere quoting lines. Similar to Office Space, High Strung centers around the absurdity in every-day-life & one man's inability to cope with it. Jim Carrey plays death & pulls it off brilliantly. What I love about this movie is how accurate Thane's observations of life are. He seems to point out to all what we should have seen the whole time had we had more insight on life. Commenting on things from flies to Vietnam, the "O" keeps us entertained from start to finish. And considering there's really only three characters that's quite an amazing feat. I find it extremely cute & smart with a good moral that leaves audiences feeling warm & fuzzy. I give it a 10/10.
Without a Paddle (2004)
While it won't win any Oscars, it's one of the funniest movies this year!
Those who didn't enjoy this movie just aren't in the right age-frame. I couldn't stop laughing at all the silly jokes and the actors did a great job playing their characters. After all, it's about time Seth Green played a super-nerd and Dax Shepard got a major role in a movie! A person's view of this movie is the direct result of his/her expectations: if you saw the trailers and thought you were going to see a hilarious movie, you were probably disappointed because you expected too much. But if you were like me and saw that it was probably going to be cheesy but was worth a try then you absolutely loved it! I recommend this movie to everyone ages 15-33! Men will enjoy the adventure and women will enjoy the scenery! *wink wink* But just remember one thing: this isn't a serious movie so don't take it so seriously!
